Mike Cox to work out for Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday

Quote:

Former Red Land and Georgia Tech standout Mike Cox arrived in Kansas City late Monday night for a Tuesday workout with the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had a roster spot open up when star running back Jamaal Charles tore his ACL and was pronounced out for the season.

Cox, a fullback, was an undrafted free agent in 2008 and signed a contract with the Chiefs. He played three seasons, catching 11 passes for 50 yards before being released before the start of this season.

JonesCrusher 09-20-2011 10:08 AM

Mike Hunt will be pleased.

Steron 09-20-2011 10:08 AM

Mike Cox is the best available? JFC.

Dayze 09-20-2011 10:13 AM

Le'ron "Night Train" McClain. I hope he at least can hold onto the ball.

I'll be happy if he can hold on to his ACL...

LeRon McClain might not be a bad FF pickup. You know damn well that the Chiefs are going to run the shit out of the ball.

I'd be happy if Cox blocked for McClain.

Mike Cox: Hello?

Ray Farmer: Mike, this is Ray Farmer with the Kansas City Chiefs. We'd like for you to come in this week. We have a roster spot opening.

Mike Cox: Gee, I don't know. I'm pretty busy right now. Can I call you back?

BigChiefFan 09-20-2011 10:23 AM

This is going to be a long season. I like McClain, I think he'll be fine as the feature HB, but Cox is awful as a weapon and his blocking isn't much better.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll get a lot of goal line carries.

Do the Chiefs now have the slowest running back corp in the league?

Like the opposing defenses didn't stack the line enough as it was.

They are going to stack the line LESS now.

No reason to over commit to the run.

Good luck, Matt.

I don't think the threat of Cassel throwing deep ever worried anyone.

Honestly, i don't know why they even bother with safeties. It's not like Cassel is going to go deep on em. They should just put 2 more lineman in there.

DaKCMan AP 09-20-2011 10:34 AM

Mike Cox better not keep us from getting Lucky.

suds79 09-20-2011 10:35 AM

Le'ron looks like Bam Morrie to me when he's in his gear. Just a random thought.

Well shoot. I wanted Tomas Jones to be the feature starter because he's horrible but what can you do.

loochy 09-20-2011 10:37 AM

Kimble Anders will come out of retirement. You heard it here first.

Bowser 09-20-2011 10:39 AM

Is it the Chiefs just feel comfortable with "their" guys, or nobody wants to come play for this trainwreck of a team?

I think it's more of Cox being a body to fill a roster hole. They know the season is most likely gone so why put effort into scouting someone else out? They already know Cox and Cox already knows them. It's the lazy way out.

Oh, and for you Clark Hunt haters, I'm sure Cox is a super cheap pickup.

cdcox 09-20-2011 10:42 AM

I would guess that McClain, Jones and McCluster are going to roughly split the carries.

The only thing that makes me think differently is that they may cut McCluster way back on touches, since he fumbles once every 18 times he touches the ball. That is a disaster.

Iowanian 09-20-2011 10:44 AM

Mike Cox isn't turning down the phone call, he'll be happy to come earn a check before going to work at Uncle Bud's Roofing Co.

PunkinDrublic 09-20-2011 10:55 AM

Has anyone nicknamed him no gain Mcclain yet? That's what I've started calling him.

How do you even know? Dude has 4 carries on the year, and one was a 12 yarder...the other 3 combined for like 3 yards.

gblowfish 09-20-2011 11:03 AM

He can't be worse than "The Illusive Thomas Jones."

Titty Meat 09-20-2011 11:05 AM

Make Cox the feature back. Suck 4 Luck.

Boobs?

Frosty 09-20-2011 11:19 AM

I would have liked them to scour the practice squads for a young back with promise but bringing Cox back gets us another step closer to Luck, so that works too.

Hopefully norv thinks like you so we can beat the bolts as bad as we've been getting spanked the last 8 games.

McCluster is quicker than he is fast. I also don't see him getting more than a handful of carries a game.

THIS. My leagues are picking up McCluster like mad. I'm grabbing McClain.

whoman69 09-20-2011 05:20 PM

I'd say what this means is that McClain will get more carries than normal and needs an insurance policy. We saw that on Sunday. It might also mean they can't find a decent replacement at halfback.

Okie_Apparition 09-20-2011 05:34 PM

Cox can catch & probably can't outrun Cassel's arm

CrazyPhuD 09-20-2011 05:46 PM

Great...just ****ing great...so in addition to sucking. the chiefs are going to break Mike Cox before the end of the season too.

Im fine with it, I'd rather Mcclain get the ball than any one of our RB's right now. The time in Baltimore where they gave him a majority of the carries, he was sucking the dick of a 1000 yard season recently. Hes the best RB we have on the roster right now.

booger 09-20-2011 07:51 PM

I'd rather they look at another RB like say Mike Bell or whoever. If they go the FB route i'd rather see Bannon promoted from the PS than Cox resigned. Reshawn Jackson is a FA FB that had some skill coming out of college. I'd rather they look at someone else as Cox isn't that great of a lead blocker and offers little else.

Looking forward to seeing McClain get some more work at RB. Maybe with Becht being able to handle some of the FB duties they could look to a 3rd TE, hopefully one that can stretch the field more than the other 2 on the roster.
