No link, but just reported on Outside the Lines.

Another winning move for Shanny.

He is definetly worth a look if he is healthy

Javon was injured and the bad blood came from his comments about "not feeling like a part of the team" as Brandon Marshall evolved in 2007 while Javon was nursing his injury. Denver traded for him with the injury concern and gave him a shot... he had a nice 2006 and then a gimpy 2007.
It's unfortunate, but he has issues with the idea that maybe he's not the #1 guy now... so, good luck in the future. |
Yeah, Brandon Marshall definitely grew into a much better player throughout the season, which makes this move reasonable. The injury risk and the attitude problem just aren't worth it.
I would have done the same if I was them. |

I doubt he's going to want to come here and be #2 to Bowe.

Speaking for myself I am okay with some of Shanny's moves not panning out because right or wrong he at least is always active. He comes out ahead in most of the trades/deals he makes and takes his shots to try for the next SB ring. IN today's NFL you never know how a player is going to pan out. Javon Walker turned into a whiny bitch girl when he lost his #1 slot to a young gun. Phock him, it isn't Shanny's fault Walker would rather cry than try. If anything I would like to see him a little less active in the FA market and concentrate more on building some young guys like he did last year. |

I'm not going to fault him for taking a chance and failing... The Plummer experiment was interesting, but you can't argue with the wins during that tenure. The revolving door at RB has been frustrating, but they've been successful more often than not. The trade for Bailey worked... signing guys via FA like Lynch, Stokely and others have worked. There have been a fair share of failures as well during that time. I look at the drafts and yes, there have been a number of misses. However, he's hit on several as well over the years. The 2006 class is something that looks to be very nice. <TABLE _extended="true"><TBODY _extended="true"><TR class=majorHeader _extended="true"><TD class=colors colSpan=5 _extended="true">2006 - Denver Broncos</TD></TR><TR _extended="true"><TH class=rdTD _extended="true">Rd</TH><TH class=selTD _extended="true">Sel #</TH><TH class=playerTD _extended="true">Player</TH><TH class=positionTD _extended="true">Position</TH><TH _extended="true">School</TH></TR><TR _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">1</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">11</TD><TD _extended="true">Jay Cutler</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">QB</TD><TD _extended="true">Vanderbilt</TD></TR><TR class=rowAlt _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">2</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">61</TD><TD _extended="true">Tony Scheffler</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">TE</TD><TD _extended="true">Western Michigan</TD></TR><TR _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">4</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">119</TD><TD _extended="true">Brandon Marshall</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">WR</TD><TD _extended="true">Central Florida</TD></TR><TR class=rowAlt _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">4</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">126</TD><TD _extended="true">Elvis Dumervil</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">DE</TD><TD _extended="true">Louisville</TD></TR><TR _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">4</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">130</TD><TD _extended="true">Domenik Hixon</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">WR</TD><TD _extended="true">Akron</TD></TR><TR class=rowAlt _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">5</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">161</TD><TD _extended="true">Chris Kuper</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">G</TD><TD _extended="true">North Dakota</TD></TR><TR _extended="true"><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">6</TD><TD class=centeralign _extended="true">198</TD><TD _extended="true">Greg Eslinger</TD><TD class=positionTD _extended="true">C</TD><TD _extended="true">Minnesota</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> There were some forgettable drafts without a doubt in the years before 2005 and you see that now with the holes on the team. I'm not saying the guy hasn't failed at times, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because to be honest... I'm not sure I like the idea of not having Shanahan as the coach right now. 2007 was only the 2nd losing season for Denver since 1995... that's a nice history of not sucking and something that speaks well to his ability to field a team that is better than "just average". We'll see what happens this season. |
I'd say 2006 was a good draft for the Donks.
|
I thought I read earlier this offseason that Walker wanted out of Denver over some bad blood and the fact that he said everywhere he looks he sees D. Williams. That would suck I think.

read this on rotoworld:
Broncos released WR Javon Walker, according to ESPN's Michael Smith. He's a big name, but Walker's contract and knee injury made it an easy choice by Denver. That no one chose to give up a late-round pick for Walker is telling. It's rumored that he could need microfracture surgery in the future, although he will have plenty of suitors lined up with MRI machines. Dallas, Washington, Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay have been rumored to be interested. |
One season too late.

My question for vali and MHM is how much longer do you give Shanahan?
|

Two seasons more at the least would be my guess. |

Nobody comes to mind. |

We'll give you Gunther for a coach. We'll even throw in some Gates BBQ. |

The reason why I am asking it is just hard to imagine giving a coach 10 years + with little or no success in that time frame. I understand he won 2 SB and that gives him some lee way but when does that start to wear out? |
I am one of those fans that wants to see Shanahan leave on his own terms... he's not doing anything to bury the franchise. Is he looking crazy at times with the moves and firing of coaches? Sure, but I know he's not happy with being mediocre.
Shanahan hasn't won a title since Elway... I get that, but Denver didn't win a title until they got Shanahan. It was a perfect time for the franchise in that sense. Since that time, Denver has not struggled like many other teams. So, no... he hasn't been perfect, but he's been better than most coaches and I trust him. |

The Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since the 1996 season and since Shanahan took over in Denver, the Cowboys have had 5 (yeah, 1-2-3-4-5) head coaches. WOW.
KC has had 4 head coaches. Oakland has had 7 head coaches. SD has had 6 head coaches. Insane. Something has to be said for consistency... |

you've become a True Fan....Chiefs fans were where you are now a decade ago.... "Most Wins In the 90's!!!" - Carl Peterson Shanahan has been grasping at straws for a while, and his FA moves are mostly bad to absolute disaster....your drafts haven't been much better... |

that's almost as funny as tacojohn's "Plumber will take us to the Stuperbowl" |
And Ian Gold follows Walker out the door. Didn't they give him a huge signing bonus a couple of years ago?

We could reach your frustration level in another 25 years or so. |
Has Shanarat won any playoff games since Elway retired?

you're all clearly in denial about Shanahan's moment having passed...when you start touting "regular season wins!!" as a measure of success, you've jumped the shark and become the Carl Peterson led Chiefs.... and your defense mechanisms are the same as our True Fans used.... |

Oh I know Peterlickers success rate in the playoffs has been dismal. I wasn't trying to say that the Chiefs had faired any better, I just can't remember a single playoff win for the donkeys since horseface retired. |

I don't know any personal details about you, Can. Were you alive when the Chiefs took their last title? |
If the Donkeys sign Briggs that is a very good signing. I hadn't heard that so thanks for the info.

If the Chiefs sign him, he'll be an injury-prone bust.
If anyone else signs him, he'll be an All-Pro. That's just how it goes. |
