Has anyone here gotten their pilots liscense?

I'm just starting the process of trying to get my pilots liscense and am interested in hearing some input from some of the members here on how they went about getting theirs.

What I've found so far is that there are roughly 4 steps to getting this done.

Step 1) getting a FAA 3rd class medical

Step 2) a ground school class that is nothing more than a weekend (Friday-Sunday) full days course and I've been quoted 250 for the class and then 150 for the 60 question FAA test.

Step 3) Record 40 hours of flight time and 2/3-3/4 of that needs to be with an instructor. I've been quoted 119 per hour for the plane and then 49 per hour for the instructor.

Step 4) take the final test to get the liscense. The final test has been quoted to me as 350.

If anyone has gone through this process and wants to shoot me any advice or steer me in a direction that may be more affordable, I'm all ears.

Grand total for everything quoted seems to come in around 7,000.

Is there a spelling section in the classes?

I haven't flown since July 2011. My medical expires in June.

Yes but they took it away when I lost an entire ****ing Boeing 777 with 239 people in it. They still have not found the damn thing. I may never get my license back.

Important safety tip: do not turn off the transponder.

I spend thousands every year in travel. Family in north and south Cali, family all over the east coast and in Texas.

Living in this area, I am limited to only flying American or United and have to always take multiple flights to get anywhere and that leads to delays and constant bullshit.

Over the last 4 years, I've totaled up over 30k in travel expenses just to do with flights for me and my son and I'm at the point where my house is paid off free and clear, my truck is nearly paid off and I've always wanted to get my pilots license.

My truck was 30k and I figure I am already used to making those payments and with a similar loan, I can pay for getting my license and 4seater plane and that would open up a lot of options for us.

A couple to be exact.

Reerun KC is a pilot.

I looked into the same thing back in 2009, and he was very helpful when I spoke with him / with questions etc.

the $7k figure you have is right there in the ball park. One thing to also keep in mind is that there will most likely be some extra $ involved since I've heard it sometimes takes more than the 45hrs to actually pass etc.

He's just trying to make sure he gets across as much of the "drunken pilot" lingo as he can. Wants to be ready to get his "Shpilot Lischesnshe."

In58men 03-14-2014 03:20 PM

Denzel Washington can teach you a thing or two.

And that's still cheaper than owning a fraction of a plane after going through getting a license.

I got my commercial rotary wing, but through a completely different process.

Cool, seems like the best way to go if you can afford it. American and United definitely aren't cheap.
