How Many Wins for the 2013 Kansas City Royals?

Poll Forthcoming...

In 2012, the Royals finished with the 23rd best record in the majors (30 teams) with 72 wins, 90 losses.

AL Central winners, Detroit finished the regular season with a record of 88-79, and they were the only division winner with less than 90 wins. The World Champion San Francisco Giants won 94 games in the regular season.

The 2013 Royals will field a very similar team offensively with what appears to be a much improved starting rotation. How many wins will this team get in 2013?

Going to the playoffs PBJ

Consistent1 03-26-2013 08:48 AM

It's so hard to even guess when the games actually get meaningful. I picked the 75-84.

Deberg_1990 03-26-2013 08:48 AM

ill say 84.

Ace Gunner 03-26-2013 08:53 AM

Actually, we have some pitching depth for the first time in a long time.

86-76 2nd place in the Central

Halfcan 03-26-2013 08:54 AM

It would be easy to get excited about this team and predict them to win the Division. If they keep playing like they have been- it is definately a posibility. Can we hope they will keep batting .334 as a team- and play some of the best defense in baseball?? To me the Biggest difference is this year they Expect to win- last year they just Hoped to win. They have confidence and a swagger this year that I havnt seen in a Long time. They are having fun and all seem to really like coming to work and being around each other.

I will predict 85-77- 2nd in the division. That would be a Huge improvement but I think they can do it based on what they have been showing us so far.

Archie F. Swin 03-26-2013 08:55 AM

I predict 86 wins, hopefully good for 2nd in the division

DMAC 03-26-2013 08:56 AM

People...Think.

CoMoChief 03-26-2013 08:58 AM

Hochevar and Chen are still pitching for this club.

I don't think they'll crack 81 win mark. (.500)

Demonpenz 03-26-2013 09:00 AM

95+ I think Billy Butler goes beastmode this year. Pitching stays good. Alex Gordon is an Elite player this year. Alex Gordon All-Star and Golden glove. Sal Perez makes that step to being the best catcher in the game.

Hochevar is a long reliever at best and Chen may get traded before this week is out.

AndChiefs 03-26-2013 09:02 AM

My initial thought was 80-85 wins so I went with 75-84. I'd be surprised if they were in the 70's though.

Having a healthy Sal Perez all year will make a Huge difference! :thumb:

I think he will be a star very soon if he doesnt get hurt.

ChiefMojo 03-26-2013 09:09 AM

85 wins and 2nd in the Central!

CaliforniaChief 03-26-2013 09:16 AM

I'm predicting 87 wins this year.

The key guys are Hosmer, Santana, and Guthrie. If those guys play closer to their ceiling, I think we'll be right there with the Tigers. If not, we're probably sub .500 and looking for a new manager.

CoMoChief 03-26-2013 09:44 AM

Actually the best thing for Hoch is to just let him gas it for a couple innings. Anything after a few innings is way too much and he's a ticking time bomb

Three7s 03-26-2013 09:47 AM

Barring injuries, I'll go with 85 wins. Knocking on the door to the playoffs. If this team performs above their heads, they could take the division.

I don't think you can underestimate just how bad the starting pitching was last year.
I mean, you can look at overall stats, but they don't really tell the story. There was like 50% of the games in which the team had no chance to win by like the 3rd inning.
I think this team wins 90 this year and really pushes Detroit. This, of course, hinges on the team staying relatively healthy-which we are due to do, and the young players all improving steadily.

mr. tegu 03-26-2013 01:18 PM

My prediction for the Royals is 89-73.

Discuss Thrower 03-26-2013 01:57 PM

3rd place in the AL Central.

MTG#10 03-26-2013 02:08 PM

LOL at 85+. I cant get my hopes up for this team. Every time I "think this is the year", they let me down. I say 66 wins. Doesn't matter though, baseball sucks.

This is so true. Look at the rotations from 2012-2013 side by side and you're blown away.

Last year, Mendoza was probably the best starter on the team. Now, he's 5th. And a solid 5th.

In fact, our starting rotation gives us a chance to win every night. And with Paulino and Duffy coming back, we're just that much stronger up front.

I voted for the 85-94 option, although I do not think they will get above 90 wins. I see them somewhere between 80 and 90 wins.

Lame.

The contract extensions of Zack Greinke, Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, Joakim Soria, Alcides Escobar, Sal Perez say hi.

The "we're a farm team" b.s. really needs to get flushed by this fanbase. The Royals aren't going to go out and spend like a big-market team, but they also have done a GREAT job of signing their best young players to good-value extensions since Moore became the GM.

BigMeatballDave 03-26-2013 03:48 PM

Can you explain the value of Francoeur's contract to a naive novice please?

Halfcan 03-26-2013 07:08 PM

Royals win again- 19 runs in the last two games- Wow!!

okcchief 03-26-2013 07:11 PM

.500 plus would be tremendous. Just keep me interested thru the summer and I'll be ecstatic.

Archie F. Swin 03-28-2013 06:10 AM

reasons to be pessimistic
-------------------------
- Rotation may not deliver as expected
- Hosmer, Moose may not show improvement
- Could be a bad season for injuries
- Escobar, Perez may Slump
- Yost wont leave the lineups alone
- 2012 Frenchy returns

reasons to be optimistic
-------------------------
- Rotation alone could get us 20 more wins over last year
- Hosmer, Moose, Getz show marked improvement/consistency
- Escobar remains hot
- 2011 Frenchy returns
- Perez lives up to the hype
- Pen may be even stronger than last year
- Yost will not get in the way of a good thing
- Billay has a 30+ home run year

Chief Roundup 03-28-2013 06:56 AM

Royals will be close to another 100 loss season that is what they do almost every year.

crossbow 03-28-2013 07:53 AM

They won't have one of those 11 games losing streaks like last year that destroyed them. So I am predicting an 82 win season and a solid 2nd place finish in their division.

True...but they have been solidly in the 90 loss club. They have only been above 80 wins once in 20 years. Think about that....

Yeah, that's certainly a disheartening stat. Thing is, it's generally been a pitching problem for this team. Over the last 2+ decades, we have had NO pitching depth - NONE. This is one of the best lineups we have had since the early 90's pitching staff that won 84+ games.

Like I mentioned earlier:
86-76 2nd in the Central

TLO 03-28-2013 11:37 AM

85-94

For the first time in my life (besides the 03 fluke) the Royals have a chance to be relevant. Don't crush my dreams you bastards.

What ROFL you don't know the Royals very well do you?
This is the losses in the last 10 years starting with 2012.
90
91
95
97
87
93
100 - 2006
106 - 2005
104 - 2004
79
100 -2002

That is 4 seasons over 100 lossses and 5 more with in 10 including 2 within 5.
So you have had 1 season in that same time frame where you were over .500.

RedDread 03-28-2013 02:57 PM

I'm going 86 and getting one of the Wild Cards.

Demonpenz 03-28-2013 03:12 PM

Texas is 2-8 in their last 10 games. If they got swept in KC that would be utter devastation for the Rangers. I'm pretty sure fans would be clamoring for Wash to get the boot. All this while the As play moneyball.
