Do Target workers deserve a shortened Black Friday?
|
Deserve?
|
What makes Target workers more special than other retail slobs?
|
Some jobs make you work holiday hours you don't wanna work. In this case, it's their companies biggest day to make money. Don't they get double pay or time and a half?
|
Are they forcing them to work without pay?

when family is important again NO STORE WOULD BE OPEN ON THANKSGIVING
|
If they show up to arrowhead in black sunday. I'll sign it.
|
They're not talking about Black Friday, they want Thanksgiving off, which is one of like 2 holidays that retail workers usually get off.
|
Hospitals should all be closed too.

I don't know, I do think the whole idea of Wal-Mart and Target starting at 8 or 9 on Thanksgiving day is stupid. Where does it end?

If you can make money from the a******* that want to get up at the butt a** crack of dawn who cares. I have shopped on black Friday but I never got up before 6am and still have gotten everything I wanted.

BF is as stupid as people standing in line for an Iphone

You guys aren't understanding this. The "Black Friday" sales aren't happening at the butt crack of dawn this year. I think that's their complaint. The Black Friday madness is taking places at like 8 or 9 PM on Thanksgiving night this year. I'm guessing the store has to be pretty much fully staffed through the day to prepare for the madness that night.
|
You don't see movie theater workers throwing fits or people saying they shouldn't work holidays. I am sure Target would prefer to not be open as would many stores but they can't do that if they want to compete.
At least target gave them an extra hour and are opening at 9 instead of 8. Nobody is eating dinner at 9 pm. |
You took the job.

Fedex now makes us drive on New Years Eve... What am I gonna do ? Quit?
|
When I worked in retail.....I automatically knew that I was going to have to work the holidays. It's the busiest time for the store. I had a lot of co-workers that would get turned down for vacation on some of those days.....and they quit because of it.
Suck it up and ****ing deal with it. |

For me, if I don't like my schedule, I find different employment.
I've worked in manufacturing for 16 yrs. Luckily, these places shut down for holidays. |

I do geriatric rehab and because of medicare laws I pretty much have to work every holiday. I get paid 1.5x and don't have much of a choice to take it off. No complaining here.
|
I worked retail one black friday a long time ago. 3am - 10pm. That sucked ****ing balls and I quit shortly after that. I witnessed the worst that society has to offer and it made me really hate people. I would never work that type of job again, omg that sucked.

Most retail locations say you can't take time off Black Friday weekend and several days in December. It's mandatory.
|
They could go on strike.
We saw how well that works http://imageshack.us/a/img17/2079/lebronlaughteeth1.png |

A friend of mine recently got hired at Target and she was told, with about 40 other overnight coworkers, that "pretty much everyone in the room would be scheduled to work on Thanksgiving". Also, you think if they open to the public at 9 PM the employees will get there at 8:45? Some of you guys are so naive to the way things work. A large portion of them will be scheduled to come in several hours before, effectively ruining their holiday. With that said, I understand the store needs to make money to pay you and if you took the job you pretty much have to nut up or shut up. I've quit a few jobs over scheduling issues (I was once schedule to work Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Years Eve, AND New Years day, ALL IN ONE SEASON- **** that shit!) so there's always that option. The thing is, as someone mentioned earlier, where does it stop? This is obviously an attempt by both Wal-Mart and Target to one-up each other. You just have to wonder where it will stop.. |
Don't go shopping on black Friday. Buy all your shit online or later in the week. Spread the word, pass out flyers and fly a banner.
|
Speaking of Target, for some reason all the good looking women in Topeka shop there.
Titties overload. Goodness. |

Nobody is forced to enter into an employment agreement.

no, of course not. But forcing them to work 20 hour days with no increase in pay and no matter what happens you can't call out. That's pretty shitty. I don't blame them for acting out when they are being abused. |

And you guys aren't paying close attention. Target is NOT trying to one up Wal-mart or other stores because they are one of the ones not opening at 8 pm. Sure they don't want to miss out but they are least opening an hour later. And this crap about them getting there a few hours early? Maybe management but the regular workers have no reason to get there before 8:30 if the place was prepared properly the day and night before. |
Quote:
They're not being remotely abused. They should do a little research into history to see real worker's abuse. |

Oh my God.....I should totally get a petition together because on Election day....my job makes me work 20-22 hours in one day. And then I have to turn around and be here the next day at 8 AM.
Oh wait....I get paid overtime. I should shut my ****ing mouth. |
The overtime doesn't always happen. Usually doesn't unless they're working more than 8 hours in a shift. Just because it's "black Friday" doesn't mean they get extra pay. Just another minimum wage day.

Here is my question, though. Does the store manager have to be there at the same time as the average Joe workers? I'm not talking about dept managers or mid level guys...does the store manager have to work that night? |

If I want my goddamn $10 toaster at 10 PM Thanksgiving night those mother ****ers better be giving thanks they have a job to sell it to me. Nawwhatimsayin' |

I bet half of them take it off and then go shop. Worthless and unappreciative.
