Avatar origins
To go along with Flybone's username origin thread, there are certainly a handful of avatars around here that I've often asked about. Baby Lee's avy was the most confusing thing ever for the longest time until I finally asked him about it. Iconic is another one in which I've never gotten a response. Why does Mr. Flopnuts have Mike Holmgren in a chiefs shirt saying "ohhh yeah" as his avatar? All relevant questions that can be answered in this thread!
To start off, my avatar comes from the character "Bufkin", who was made famous in "The Wizard of Oz" starring Audrey Hepburn. He was then reprised as a fable character in the video game "The Wolf Among Us". |
Mine was hand selected by Rain Man. You can close this thread. Nobody is topping that.

basically I like anything David Lynch - I've always been a fan of the non mainstream - It's just sort of what I dig - Lynch is easily my favorite. Henry Spencer is the main character in the blockbuster film "Eraserhead"

Pretty self-explanatory.
I created it before I even knew what Photoshop was....and am damn proud of my efforts considering it was made in Paint. |
Make your own avatar from scratch or you are just a second rate poster.

I had Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday for years, but Lloyd Bridges seemed far more appropriate.

Mine is from this group of guys I hung around with in the 70's. They were crazy, they cut off my beautiful freak flag, kicked my ass, abused me and ended up making a man out of me.

Mine is what the Chiefs have done to me. Can't stop watching the trainwreck in hopes that ONE DAY they will finally win it all.

|

I have always been a Walken fan and his skits on SNL are legendary. I particularly laughed my ass off at that particular skit so I went with it. On another board I always had my childhood hero Otis Taylor. But another member has OT's football card for an avatar so I didn't want to steal his thunder. By the way I have that exact card and its a prized possession.

Mine came from a series of democratic revolutions that spread across the Middle East. One week, Palestine began their umpteenth struggle for their own country. I changed my avatar in solidarity with them.
I haven't changed it largely because nobody in DC ever gave a shit that I had had a half-dozen other countries' flags in my avatar, but when I changed it to Palestine's, I got a ton of flack for it all of a sudden from the usual suspects. So I largely kept it as a middle finger, but the struggle in Palestine has simply never died down, so I do keep it as a continuing nugget of solidarity. |

My old boy Gandy. He never met a human, cat or dog he didn't love. He hated gofers and squirrels and was good at killing them. He always laid next to me quiet and watched Chiefs games. Also, he was shy about people watching him go to the bathroom and always searched for privacy. He got old and slow and didn't move fast enough and the ex-gfs dad backed over him. RIP!

Mine is a design/illustration that I created in Adobe Illustrator with half a Patriot and half a Buccaneer.
I had a larger one but lost it when my HD got damaged. It's somewhere on a back-up disk tho' but I can't be bothered trying to locate it. |

My avatar is the character, "Clarence" from the old MTV puppet show, Wonder Showzen. In the show, Clarence is always making people feel uncomfortable and purposely creates awkward situations with himself and random strangers. I think I tend to do this... on this board and when I am being silly in real life.

RE: The thread, no personal association. Entire explanation is long winded, if Mr. Bufkin can recall where I laid it out before, feel free to link it. Short story, Paul F. Tomkins was doing something I found and find very amusing for a reason I found even more amusing while playing a character of his and I screencapped the image and set is as my Avy. |
Cheater 5: (surfing) A form of hang five move, but where the surfer keeps themselves and their weight well back from the front of the board and just reaches out with one leg to get five toes over the nose (as opposed to standing properly at the front).
I like to surf. |

For years I used a tapping boot with a cowboy hat. It just fit my username RedNeckRaider. I shortened the name and now switch avatars often. The current one is a picture of my bike~
Edited~ Name changed back to original |
Mine was from 2003 iraq. We were dropped in by Chinook on about every mission (sounds cooler then it was) I saw the sky chief logo on the side of one of the birds and got a quick picture. The chopper was about as broke as the Chiefs d at the time so I was always nervous flying in it. When I first posted it here, another cp'r recognized it. He had flown a few missions in it too.
|
I've spent so damn much time behind the wheel of one, it fit.
Even though I curse those one who sucks the peniss quite a bit, it still fits. Kind of like the Chiefs I guess. They piss me off infinitely, but is can't live without them. That and nobody else has it. |
Mine is the cover to my first novel...
Queen Anne's Revenge- Historic fiction. Available World Wide. |

Mine was designed or co-opted by teeduya. I was originally using this one below but to Rainmans still simmering displeasure switched to the current one 8-9 years ago.
