Your top movies based on "real life" people?

I realize Hollywood always takes liberty but I enjoy films based on real life and hope to find some new ones to watch from some of your choices.Watcha got?

Mine in no particular order.

Truman-my favorite movie about a POTUS thought Gary Sinese was great as the lead.

The Buddy Holly Story-Gary Busey nailed this role.

City Of God-subtitled but easily in my top movies of all time.

Raging Bull-Deniro as boxer Jake LaMotta, loved that it was in black and white as well.

The Elephant Man-another black and white but loved the atmosphere and the story.

In Broad Daylight-this story took place just a mere 30 miles from where I live about the Skidmore bully and his murder which has yet to be solved to this day.

Casino-love Goodfellas as well but I still prefer Casino.

I thought that Moneyball was a fantastic movie, even though it wasn't exactly a true story.

Almost Famous
(but more so, Untitled) was amazing. Red Dog, Lester Bangs, Penny Lane (and all the other groupies) were real people, William is Cameron Crowe, Dennis Hope is a slightly exaggerated Irving Azoff, and the rest of the band is an amalgam of the Eagles and Peter Frampton's tenure in Humble Pie (with Crudup playing Frampton but looking like Glen Frey).

gblowfish 07-17-2013 01:10 PM

So if we're talking "biopics"

10. Man in the Moon: Jim Carray is Andy Kauffman.

9. Ray: Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles.

8. 42: Jackie Robinson Story. Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey.

7. Brian's Song: James Caan as Brian Piccolo.

6. John Adams: Actually an HBO mini series. Paul Giamatti plays John Adams.

5. Lincoln: Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.

4. Patton: George C. Scott as General Patton.

3. Glory: Matthew Broderick as Col. Shaw

2. The Right Stuff: Ed Harris as John Glenn, Scott Glenn as Alan Shephard.

1. Good Night and Good Luck: David Strathaim as Edward R. Murrow

Sully 07-17-2013 01:14 PM

Good show. :thumb:
Yeager did say they thoroughly embellished him breaking the sound barrier, said there was no drama, no violent shaking, and that he just went up for a test flight and when he returned they told him, “Oh yea, just FYI but you broke the sound barrier.”

Good call. That's a damn good movie, especially considering it was made for TV in the 70s.
