Favorite Chiefs QB
Pats Fan asking -- who was your best and favorite KC QB. On the Pats side, first Brady, then Grogan. Bledsoe -- glad to see him in Buffalo. The bum. Grogan was always my favorite, but Brady has changed my mind.
KC QB - Montana (in his twilight years), still the best QB that ever played the game. |
hmmm... there haven't been too many great chiefs qbs in my era of being a fan (started when I was around seven or eight, really--90 or 91)
green's good, deberg was good in his time... dave kraig wasn't bad either though... girlbac, eek, kill me now... -EB- |
Rich Gannon. :p
|
That is why I was asking. I was trying to think of a QB that KC had that was really good. All I could think of was Montana. Help my memory please. Thanks.
|
For me, it starts and ends with Todd Blackledge.
|
Gannon, went to the Raiders. How long was he with your team???
|
hell, we've got the bad habit of getting qbs that are way past their prime... we've had several hall of fame qbs when it was 'too late'...
warren moon was a chief for a while... montana, obviously... gannon, though before he 'blew up'... kraig's a borderline hall of famer (damned small hands!!!) -EB- |
Now you have Trent Green, how would you rate this guy. I don't know that much about him. I will see for myself on Monday night. Hey, you beat the Colts.
|
How can there be a Chiefs QB thread without mention of Len Dawson
|
Lenny Dawson.

green's a good qb--not a hall of famer, he started way too late in his career (he was a seventh round draft pick in 93 for the chargers, and didn't play a down in the nfl until like 97)
that said, he'll never be a team's answer to peyton manning--he'll always be good if he's surrounded with a good supporting cast, but I wouldn't rely on him to be the next john elway (I still hate that fucker) -EB- |

len dawson by a mile.
I am waiting for the first BILL KENNEY rep! |
I think you can all guess who my favorite is??? Least Favorite was probably Bono.

Thanks Len Dawson. I remember the face. I just could not put a name on him. Yeh, you had a great one (other than Montana). Lenny Dawson, now that guy was good. I was remembering his face. Darn, thanks. See what getting old gets you. I remember the face, the play, not the name. Thanks. He was in fact a great QB.
|
no Mike Elkins haters??
|
Montana, Deberg, Green, Krieg, those guys were the best QB's the Chiefs had since I started watching (1989) Marty's first season
|
fuck mike elkins
there, feel better deberg?? -EB- |
matt blundin's my hero

Lenny the Cool, then Green, then Deberg. I was also a big Kenney fan. He had to be the greatest at being able to deliver the ball from a prone position (bad o-lines in those days).
|
During the 1960s the Chiefs franchise were the only club to capture three American Football League (AFL) championships. Coached by Hank Stram, the team had one of the AFL’s most feared defenses. Quarterback Len Dawson, a five-time passing champion and future Hall of Fame member, led the offense.
|
For me it's a tie Dawson / Montana.
|
GRBAC!! Ok, sorry, that's not even funny.
|
Never really liked any of them that I've seen. Dawson was around before I was born. I admired Deberg because he wasn't a pu$$y like Montana, but none of the one's I've seen have been better than average for the most part.
|
Ahhh the Fuller and Kenny days of 8-8 :thumb:

Dawson is the franchise. After that Green has to be up there and Montana. Gannon was popular. Krieg and DeBerg just were good enough to get the job done. Then we have had too many crappy quarterbacks to name.
|
If Dawson could have played in todays game and rules.... Oh my.
Dawson Green Kenny Montana DeBerg As for backups ........ Gannon Livingston |
Has anyone mentioned Mike Livingston. He led the Chiefs in 9 games during their SB win season.

that would be like a bears fan not mentioning sid luckman in their list of alltime best bears qbs... he was a hall of famer and alltime great, but VERY FEW people today know who the fuck he was -EB- |
Now the most accurate QB we ever had in the history of the team......
An Oakland castoff.... Tom Flores, his last year in the NFL as a player. 1969 .... 1 attempt and 1 completion for 33 yards. |

tom flores was da BOMB in phantoms

I mentioned him before you did, but as a backup. He played wellthat 69 season as a backup, after Lenny retired, Mike didn't and couldn't do crap with the team we had. BTA, neither could anybody else. |
Green is far and away the best I've seen.
Montana was better, in his prime, but Green has been better in a Chiefs uniform. |
hmmm... give green and this year's chiefs offense that 93' defense with DT and neil smith, and I guarantee green brings home a super bowl
-EB- |

No argument here, you could use any pre-2000 Chiefs defense and we would have won it all last season. |
I've been watching the Chiefs since 1965. Here's my humble opinion. We'll just talk guys who started at least a game or two and ignore the career backups:
Great Chiefs QBs: Dawson and Montana. Good Chiefs QBs: Green, DeBerg, Kreig, Gannon. Mediocre Chiefs QBs: Livingston, Bono, Jaworksi. Crappy Chiefs QBs: Fuller, Grbac, Kenney, Moon, Pelleur. Total Waste of Flesh: Blackledge. My highly opinionated Chiefs page is here: http://www.georgeblowfish.com/chiefsmain.html |
Question for you old timers on the board. So who were our QB's from like the mid 1970's to the early 1980's? I dont remember them, I guess i was too young then.

Bill Kenney went from 79 to 88, then your boy Steve came in. Before that I think mizzou is right it was Livingston and Fuller. I can't remember who Kenneys backup was.
|
Quote:
It was Livingston after Dawson then Fuller then Kenney then Blackledge then Deberg. |
Lenny then Trent.

Here ya go.

Another QB that was around when Livingston was there was a dude named Jackie Lee. I'm not sure if he ever played though.
|
The only one to have taken the team to two Super Bowls....
Lenny Dawson :thumb: |

Does anyone remember who our scab QB was in 87 during the strike?

Jackie Lee was the top backup in the 69-70 SB team, he came in the game after Dawson got injured. Memory serves me right, Lee went down the same game and Livingston finished. Flores was signed the next week as a backup to Livingston after the Lee injury , who had been by Buffalo. Mike Livingston was the # 3 QB on the roster. Mike started and lead the team to 9 wins in Dawsons absence. Lee came back after the 3rd or 4th game Livingston started but never became the starter because we were winning with Mike . |

Trent Green and Joe Montana.
|
Joe Montana is the first reason I became a Chiefs fan
|
1982 and 1987 both years had strikes.
|
I think Steve Deberg was the smartest and toughest but, I'm going to say Trent Green the best
|
|
Len Dawson, Joe Montana , Trent Green , Steve Deberg ,
|
Len Dawson the ONLY Super Bowl winner, but you got to give props to Montana, even on the downside of his career he still stuck and broke it off to the broncos on Monday night at Mile High. Green has turned out to be the man and loved the grit of Deberg, but I would have to say Blackledge was my favorite BUST as a CHIEFS QB.
