Why is Blaylock starting this week?

Why not just give the nod to Johnson since he is under contract for a few more years and played well last week?

Umm....maybe because Vermeil is a crabby old bastard?? Too set in his ways to admit that LJ might be a decent back?

alpha_omega 12-07-2004 01:28 PM

Because he is on my fantasy team!!!!!!!!

...or, because maybe they want to reduce the risk of injury to LJ???????
They are gonna need him next year.

Sure-Oz 12-07-2004 01:29 PM

Blaylock i bet will start every game the rest of the season, but LJ will probably get a pretty good amount of carries.

We have a winner! DV isn't about to admit he's been wrong all this time.

I don't think D.V. is wrong to start Blaylock. First of all Blaylock is an all around better back right now. I say this in the light that L.J. still hasn't picked up the blocking aspect of being a NFL runningback yet, and Blaylock has not done anything wrong that would make D.V. not start him.

Demonpenz 12-07-2004 01:44 PM

WHY DON'T WE RUN THE 3-4

You make a good point in regards to his blocking. But this also says to me that we haven't given up on the idea of retaining Blaylock. I've said before that I don't think there will be a big bidding war to get him. As long as KC can get him at a reasonable price and it doesn't hinder our ability to address the real problem areas, I can live with it. Keeping Blaylock does bring the LJ pick that much closer to a wasted pick though.

If we aren't keeping Blaylock, now is the time for LJ to learn blocking...in game.

Chris Meck 12-07-2004 01:57 PM

We don't have enough decent linebackers to run a 4-3, let alone a 3-4.

Bob Dole 12-07-2004 02:12 PM

From an insider email Bob Dole just received

Because Larry is still struggling over issues like "in which hand do I carry the ball". On a positive note, he now seems to understand that the opposing team is wearing different colored uniforms.

Baby steps.

We don't have enough for a 6-1. :shake:

Don't worry, LJ will get back on the field when Blaylock gets hurt again. I'm guessing 2nd quarter.

You shoulda seen all those blocks LJ missed in the 2nd half against the Raiders. Green was either on his back, or running for his life.

Too bad you missed it.

I would agree. Blaylock starts, but LJ finishes.

I am dang happy to see LJ perform well.

wrong about kissing and hugging the D when it lets someone go deep on them too.

Thank you Goonther for ripping the fug out of them.

I, as a KC fan, am also sick and tired of being embarrased by their lack of performance.

I could be very sarcastic about this, but I won't.

Green is injured, we need at least decent blocking.

el borracho 12-07-2004 05:56 PM

Well, everyone knows that Johnson is a 3rd down, change-of-pace back.

SECTION11 12-07-2004 06:03 PM

He's starting in order to showcase his Free Agent value...

The passing game did not miss a beat with Johnson in the game last week. It was better, in fact.

Deberg_1990 12-07-2004 06:22 PM

Johnson looks like he could be the "real deal" someday. Its time to give the kid as many reps as possible. Blaylock has real talent too, but unfortunately we are probably going to lose him after the season ends.

Wile_E_Coyote 12-07-2004 06:29 PM

they run the same O with Blaylock as Priest, have to change it up with LJ. Or so I heard someone say, don't remember who. Not so much a knock on LJ, with him not starting

edit: with injuries on the O-line, the back ups may have some trouble with it

Sure-Oz 12-07-2004 06:37 PM

I didn't really see anything change with LJ there, he did catch a few passes.

I thought they meant LJ will run it up the gut & the blocking changes. I don't see it, but I'm no football guru..that's for sure

I think it is more runs inside, instead of runs to the outside. Though he looked just horrible on that sweep for a TD.

I don't understand what the Chiefs are thinking either. The only thing I can think of is that DV is trying to audition Blaylock for other teams because he likes him. Nothing else makes much sense.

HolmeZz 12-07-2004 07:04 PM

LJ's not going to get any better unless he gets playing time.

Pssst, Demonpenz was just joking.

2bikemike 12-07-2004 07:30 PM

I admit I did not see the game and only listened to it on the net. But I did not think that the Raiders mounted much of a pass rush. I think the Titans will.

I am not so sure Johnson has the game yet to protect Green like Blaylock will. I think I read somewhere that Bober is out for monday night and either Black or Sampson would start. Meaning Green is going to need all the help he can get.

Yep, which is on par with this whole off season and regular season not making much sense. :shake:

if black starts, i think we'll be alright...

he's played well in relief of waters and he's the guy who's supposed to take over from roaf, so he should be about as good as wellbourn and bober...

i'd like to see something of sampson, but only when trent has been taken out of a blowout or the like...

philfree 12-07-2004 09:49 PM

Blaylock gets the start because he is the better all around RB at this time. LJ will get his snaps though. I like being loaded! At RB I mean :thumb: O.K. both :)

How odd is it that currently Marty has a single stud RB and we are playing RBbC...

Ouch.
