Amazing Fact about the Ravens

All but 3 of their first round picks since 1996 have made the Pro Bowl. That is good drafting.

1996 - Jonathan Ogden (Pro Bowl)
1996 - Ray Lewis (Pro Bowl)
1997 - Peter Boulware (Pro Bowl)
1998 - Duane Starks
1999 - Chris McAllister (Pro Bowl)
2000 - Jamal Lewis (Pro Bowl)
2000 - Travis Taylor
2001 - Todd Heap (Pro Bowl)
2002 - Ed Reed (Pro Bowl)
2003 - Terrell Suggs (Pro Bowl)
2003 - Kyle Boller

That is just amazing.

KCTitus 12-23-2004 02:42 PM

Ive allways found it ironic that Billick came in as a QB/Offensive genius and hasnt had a QB worth a squirt of piss since he's been there, but he has an awesome defense (that cant beat KC, tho)...

Phobia 12-23-2004 02:46 PM

That is amazing. Who's the last 1st rounder we had make the pro-bowl? Gonzo? Woods? Green (does he count)?

keg in kc 12-23-2004 02:46 PM

If memory serves, 7 of those 11 picks were top-10, which might well have something to do with their draft success, but either way it is impressive.

ChiefsCountry 12-23-2004 03:10 PM

Now lets compare the Chiefs draft since then:

1996 - Jerome Woods (Pro Bowl)
1997 - Tony Gonzalez (Pro Bowl)
1998 - Victor Riley
1999 - John Tait
2000 - Slyvester Morris
2002 - Ryan Sims
2003 - Larry Johnson

NaptownChief 12-23-2004 03:14 PM

I think what is more impressive than that is how many high draft picks the Chiefs have made that not only didn't make the Chiefs starting lineup, not only didn't make the Chiefs roster, but couldn't make any teams roster in such a short period of time:

Eddie Freeman
Eric Downing
Snoop Minnis
Sly Morris

To my knowledge all of those turds are out of the league at this point.

ChiefsCountry 12-23-2004 03:43 PM

I think Freeman is with the Cards and Downing is on the Chargers.

Mojo Rising 12-23-2004 03:48 PM

There are a lot of bad picks by the Chiefs. There are also a lot of great pick-ups in free agency. The fact is that we have not won a SB lately. We are also in the top 5 (maybe higher) for number of wins for the last 10 years. That is a lot of happy Sundays. I would like to win a SB but I have also had a lot of fun Sundays and Mondays at Arrowhead. We'll win it again soon. Happy Holidays!

the Talking Can 12-23-2004 03:50 PM

that's incredible

Messier 12-23-2004 03:56 PM

Those First round picks by the Chiefs are good.
All but one is good ,or at least starting somehwere.

Freeman was cut by the Cards after just a couple weeks...I did look up Downing and you are correct, he is on the Bolts roster...He hasn't been activated or stepped on the field in the last 6 games.

tk13 12-23-2004 04:02 PM

Yeah, I'd have to go look at their roster, but really that's a team that stacked it's whole freaking roster through the draft. Ozzie Newsome makes Carl look like an amateur, you look at their drafts over the last few years and it makes your stomach turn. That's why their "rebuilding" phase after running up to the cap in winning a Super Bowl and having to cut guys was a miserable 8-8 season where they were still in the playoff race up until the last week. Drafting well solves a lot of problems...

Messier 12-23-2004 04:08 PM

Yep the Ravens Drafts are really good they make every team look like they can't draft.

Boeller was a shi**y pick.

Meanwhile, Tony Dungy, the defensive guru, pilots a team that is all offense.

And was completely in place before he got there...Billick getting a free ride on the Ravens D that was already in place and Dungy getting a free ride on the Colts offense that was in place. Billick "offensive guru" hasn't put anything but horrible offenses since he has been there and Dungy while making some minor stides late in this year really hasn't done $hit either.

Those are the jobs I want...Get paid well, do nothing and still get your ass kissed.

And Carl Peterson makes all other teams look like they aren't too bad at it.

That didn't stop them from throwing two 1st round picks in exchange for Boller however.

Come to think of it, the only "bad" picks were Boller and Taylor on the offensive side of the ball. That might have more to do with the ineptitude of the offensive "guru" Brian Billick than the players...No WR or QB has looked worth a damn under him in Baltimore.

I don't think that's completely decided yet. He's looked a little better this year. If they had gotten Owens, and Heap would have stayed healthy, we'd have a better idea. Don't get me wrong, he hasn't set the world on fire, but he's still young enough to endure and come away a decent QB. We'll see.

Very good point. Although, Lewis and Reed were picked in the 20s.

I agree...Still have some time before that final chapter is written...3 weeks ago Larry Johnson was the $hittiest 1st round pick in that draft. :d

In their Jr. years, before Tedford and Chow I saw Boller play vs Palmer (Cal vs USC.) It was the worse QB duel I have ever seen in my life.

Might have to disagree with you on this one...give him 1 more year.

"Lately" being defined as the time since the first moon landing.

I agree. I don't know about his mental prowess. But the kid has one of the better arms in the league. The year he was drafted they showed highlights of him throwing the ball from his knees at the 50 yard line... out of the fuggin endzone.

I knew he was a bust when drafted. You don't go from under 50% in college to an accurate passer in the NFL.

but having a top 10 pick doesn't mean anything ...

its much more important to win our last 4 (meaningless) games

:harumph:

The fact that the Chiefs have only had 2 Pro Bowlers drafted in the first round since 1996 overwhelmingly illlustrates the notion that Peterson and the whole crew need to go, asap. That is awful, just awful and is main reason this team hasn't won a playoff game in a decade.

Kyle Boller's still a kid. I'd love to have him as the Chiefs QB if we didn't have Trent Green. Just look how long it took Trent to have a decent season! He bounced around the league for years before finally starting 5 years after he was drafted. Sometime, QB's need a little time. Plus, with the Raven's defense, they can take that time.
