Day 1 Draft Plan w/out Surtain and no trades

My choice would be 2 CBs and 1 OLB, and w/out Surtain and no draft slot movement, we must take the best chance available at a starter-ready CB in round 1.

Option 1 - CB,CB,OLB

15 - CB Carlos Rogers
46 - CB Eric Green
99 - OLB Jordan Beck

Option 2 - CB,OLB,CB

15 - CB Carlos Rogers
46 - OLB Kevin Burnett
99 - CB Stanley Wilson

Then follow up with the best available WR prospect in round 4.

The Bad Guy 04-20-2005 01:13 PM

If we draft a corner in the 2nd and elect not to trade it for Surtain I will go postal.

Brock 04-20-2005 01:16 PM

I doubt the Chiefs will spend all 3 first day picks on defense.

Coogs 04-20-2005 01:24 PM

Sign Law.

1st Davis S/OLB
2nd Tuck DE
3rd Beck OLB or Henry WR

If we sign Law then I DEFINITELY want a CB drafted in round one. Law is too big a question mark -- we can't rely on him. If we pick him up, we need to also do whatever it takes to get Rodgers, Pac-Man, or Rolle.

I like all three of those draftees.

I don't object to the draftees, really, but when Law's not fully recovered, we're running Warfield and Bartee out there -- no thanks.

The ESPN crew said the other day that there is no way that Law is even on the down hill side of his career yet. Said he has several good years left.

Nothing personal, but I am going to go with their opinion.

Rogers is going to Oakland

tyton75 04-20-2005 01:36 PM

I have a feeling that Surtain is not going to be a Chief..

we'll probably do something with Law.. then draft a CB in the first (hopefully 1 of the top 3 are still there!!)

I totally agree with them, too. He's definitely a great player still. But, he's injured. He may be still injured when the season starts. Even if he's ready to go, he'll still be prone to reinjuring himself.

With Surtain or a 1st round CB, we can reaonably expect them to start the first game of the season. With Law, we can not. Law is a great player, but that doesn't help us if he can't play.

Everybody in the NFL is prone to injuring themselves. Shoot, you never know, but even in practice at training camp guys get hurt. As good as our offense is, if one of a number of guys go down, our offense might suck.

It's just a gut freeling on my part, but I think Law is going to be good to go by the regular season.

maybe I'm wrong , I heard this at 3 AM half asleep

Mr. Laz 04-20-2005 01:58 PM

mine

1/15 - CB Carlos Rogers, 6-1, 195, Auburn
2/46 - OLB Michael Boley, 6-3, 230, Southern Mississippi
3/99 - WR Fred Gibson, 6-4, 200, Georgia
4/116 - DT Anttaj Hawthorne 6-3, 321, Wisconsin (drops because of positive mary jane drug test)
5/147 - DE Chris Canty 6-7, 279, Virginia (drops because of eye injury and fight)
5/162 - C Richie Incognito 6-3, 305, Nebraska
6/187 - OT Todd Herremans 6-6, 310, Saginaw Valley St.
6/199 - CB Ellis Hobbs, 5-9, 192, Iowa State
7/229 - QB Stefan LeFors 6-0, 208, Louisville
7/238 - Punter Matt Payne 6-4, 235 BYU

Chiefnj 04-20-2005 01:58 PM

I would hope that the acquisition or non-acquisition of Surtain would not affect the first round of the draft either way.

Here's mine:

Rogers
Burnett or Blackstock
Terrence Murphy (I think this guy will be very good)
Antonio Perkins
Mike Munoz
Dustin Colquitt
Dan Orlovsky
Jeb Huckeba (ST demon to replace Beisel/Maz)
Junior Rosegreen (paired back up with Rogers)
Adell Duckett (very good pass rusher in college)

We get a couple of impact defenders at corner and LB, a WR who could potentially be a #1 or #2 type WR, a nickel corner who's a very good ST guy, an OT with some injury history but the potential to be very good when healthy...worth the risk at that point, a punter who improves the position immediately...and with 10 picks a luxury we can afford, a QBOTF, another DE/LB hybrid who would be a ST demon at the least, a safety who's been in big games, and a DE who has shown the ability to get to the QB against a high level of competition

Tribal Warfare 04-20-2005 02:59 PM

depends if either Merriman or DJ will slip too

chiefscafan 04-20-2005 10:02 PM

no offense but with your draft our D will suck once again these are probably the picks we will get.

Once again Rodgers is a mistake and drafting for need is stupid when we could get a potential allstar at that pick.

I'd be real happy with these two picks, but do you honestly think they will drop this far?

He said Rogers and and to say he's not a potential "allstar" is a bit much IMO. He has tons of potential and has played well also so I don't agree that at all. FWIW I'd favor option#2 given the two choices.

In a perfect world :) ...........with Law, Davis, Tuck, Bell and Knight I'd go with Henry in the 3rd.

The guys at ESPN seem to think Rogers is a top 10 pick. Looos no Surtain and we will end up with Marlin Jackson, if we are lucky enough they actually see some quality in him.

CanadaKC 04-20-2005 11:48 PM

1) Trade up and deal for Derrick Johnson...so Miami can kiss our ass this draft cause our second rounder will go to some other team. Take that Saban..you dick.

2) Give Miami or second rounder in 2006...which will be next to the bottom of the round cause we're gonna kick some ass in the regular season. Thanks for Surtain Saban...and how bout that 64th overall pick?

I like it, but I want a CB in rd 2. *So Torn* giving up the second is suicide in this draft. No draft has ever had such a strong 2nd round. That is why Carl should play hardball with Miami.

yoswif 04-21-2005 05:14 AM

Sign CB Ty Law. Sign LB Chad Brown when the Seahawks release him. Picks:

15. Pollack DE Georgia
46. McFadden CB Florida St.
99. Foxworth CB Maryland

I'd prefer Brown to a rookie LB. I think there will be good value at CB in every round of this draft.
