Well the Kid bought the Beretta.. pretty neat car

has had it for two days now.

He changed the oil (which looked clean, and was at proper level)

he bought cleaners and spent over an hour cleaning the interior

put a full tank of gas in it and has put about 50 miles in a day and one half.

overall, I think he did a great job scopin it out and made a nice choice.

I think this picture is close to the year, make and model of the car and the color

For those of us who consider cars to be simple transportation and never name them anything other than "That Piece of S**t", what year is that?

trndobrd 08-04-2005 11:34 PM

Good for him! There's something really special about your first car as a teenager, especially since he bought it with his own hard earned money. I hope he enjoys it.

I think he will enjoy it a long time.

I was shocked he didn't go for more of a muscle car or a truck but I am happy with his choice

ShortRoundChief 08-04-2005 11:40 PM

I bet he's driving the hell out of it too. Probably put 1000 miles on it eh?

That's awesome, I can't wait until my son gets to that point.

That got me thinking about my first car. What a POS.

This isn't "it", but it's the same make, year, model, and color:

My first car was a 1980 oldsmobile Omega, it was a tank, I ran into everything with it--a building, a pole, brand new car, classic limited edition harley.....

The only damage after all that was a scratch on the bumper.

That ain't good.

1980 Plymouth Horizon TC3. The short history of that "ride":

1. Alternator went out on the way home from the dealership. No warranty.
2. Water pump went out.
3. Tires went bald. That was kind of my fault. Bought new tires.
4. Catalytic converter busted up. Took it off and busted out the sulfer then put it back.
5. Exhaust damn near fell off. Bought new exhaust.
6. Brakes wore out. Probably also from being driven like an Indy car. New brakes.
7. Pin in transmission came loose, busted a hole in the transmission. Replace transmission. Replace clutch and pressure plate while I'm in there because they were worn down and pretty well f**ked. See "Indy car" above.
8. Engine seized up. Sold car to friend for $1.

All told with the miles I put on the car and the money I put in it that damn thing cost me over $5/mile. That was in the late 80's.

Now, I can't blame the car entirely. For instance, I know the following about it's performance characteristics:

* Can do 40mph in 1st gear
* Will scratch both front tires going in to second with a new clutch
* Can do multiple 360's when you power brake at over 40mph in the snow
* Slides out in water and hits the curb when taking a 90 degree left at 30mph with 8 guys in the car
* Will fit 8 guys if you put two in the passenger seat, four in the back seat, and one guy under the hatch

I bet.

My brother tried to outrun a cop who was chasing him for speeding. Flipped the car, killed the passenger. My brother wound up doing 10 years for vehicular manslaughter.

He wasn't even doing 60, car flipped on a gravel road.

My first car was a Ford Festiva. Dear gawd that was a death trap. Don't remember the year but it had a Cobra etched in the rearview glass which was "Freakin Awesome" (Carl from ATHF). Also had this sweet ass wood shift knob. It died like 3 months after I got it. At the end of it's 'life' the oil looked like a combination of honey and sawdust.

My first car was a 65 Dodge Dart 225 slant 6. I bought it for $90 bucks from, Believe it or not, a little old neighbor lady who's lawn I mowed. :)
It was a damn good car and served me well throughout HS. :thumb:

My first car was a $675 Ford Torino.

It was Hunter Green and I had polished slotted Mags on it and N50x14 on the rear and G60x14 on the front.

But this is pretty much what I had.

Great first car.

Frosty 08-05-2005 06:39 AM

Heh, my first car was a green '74 Gran Torino (think Starskey and Hutch, without the stripe). It only had 33,000 miles and I paid $650. I had a few problems with the power including a time when I did a power slide, hit a curb and put it up o hedge (all four tires off the ground). My dad made me sell it and I got a '66 Bug. No power problems there. :(

ExtremeChief 08-05-2005 07:34 AM

My first car was a 1976 Cougar XR7. Everyone called it the 'mosquito killer' because it smoked so bad. Big ass tank.

Coach 08-05-2005 07:48 AM

First car that I drove was not by choice, but I didn't have any money to begin with, and I got it for free, so I guess I couldn't bitch about it too much.

Exactly that model, 1970 Toyota truck, only with the color yellow.

Donger 08-05-2005 07:49 AM

1973 Chevy Chevelle when I was 14.0 Wrapped it around a tree when I was 14.1

Next was a Renault Fuego, I believe as punishment.

My first car, bought it back in 1997 for $250. Still have it to this day, only now its got a 460 4bbl instead of the anemic 400 that was in it.

R&GHomer 08-05-2005 03:42 PM

My first car was a 1970 Duster, with a 318 mopar. The car originally belonged to my Grandma but it was given too me on my 16th birthday.

I drove the living chit out of that car. I learned how to power brake, drive sideways down the street in the snow, or "dry pavement", pull a 180 from reverse to 1st.... Gawd that was a lot of fun. Alas, when I finally had to put her down; she only had 2nd and 3rd gear. :)

Pants 08-05-2005 04:06 PM

Heh, my 1st car was a 1986 Camry. Never broke down the whole time I had it. Hah, I never even washed it, didn't change oil for the longest time, didn't do shit... It was good to me and probably still serves good the people I sold it to.

Sure-Oz 08-05-2005 04:06 PM

i have a 1992 beretta gt as my beater ride, 120k on it, runs good a/c just went out though. had it 7 years.
