We should trade for Patrick Ramsey

ESPN just said that he has been benched and asked to be traded. Why not make a deal for him? He's young, strong arm and really has suffered being on a poor team behind a poor line.

Would be good move for the future

ROYC75 09-12-2005 05:09 PM

I think Patrick Ramsey will be a very good QB someday, he's a QB that I really wish the Chiefs would pick up.

Lots of Potential.

DTLB58 09-12-2005 05:09 PM

Yep, I heard it and was thinking the same thing.

I wonder what the skins would want for him? I would assume since they have Brunell, drafted Jason Campbell and Gibbs pulled him so quick yesterday that they would be willing to deal him.

Bowser 09-12-2005 05:24 PM

Offer up a fifth. Or just send them the two picks Dallas is giving us for Scott Fujita.

Thig Lyfe 09-12-2005 05:25 PM

Let's all email Carl Peterson!

siberian khatru 09-12-2005 05:26 PM

I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Why would we want Ramsey? He has sucked the entire time he's been in the pros. What exactly is the upside?

Frankie 09-12-2005 05:33 PM

I've been promoting this idea ever since when they drafted Campbell in the first round. I'd love to see us trade for him. But let's see how much he'll cost first.

Much more upside than either Collins or Huard. IM not saying hed be our QBoTF, but hes worth a look.

Maybe because he's young, has a strong arm, and has played for four(?) different head coaches behind a shit offensive line his whole career?

Brock 09-12-2005 05:36 PM

I certainly wouldn't give up much to get him.

At the right price, he's an intriguing prospect. Let's see what he can do behind our OL and under Shea's tutelage.

Lead us where? Over to little Griese's house so we can trip over the dog, too?

Heh. You jinxed yourself. Shanny is going to trade for him now. Probably better than Plummer though.

B_Ambuehl 09-12-2005 05:44 PM

I would rather CP make a trade for Ramsey for chump change then waste a first rounder on someone like Charlie Whitehurst or a first rounder + other picks for someone like Harrington. Having said that I don't think Ramsey has the mental makeup to be a productive NFL quarterback. I would much rather them work out a deal for *gulp* Tim Rattay.

Wouldn't it follow that if he doesn't want to backup in Wasington he might not want to do it here either? :hmmm:

Maybe, but maybe he just wants to get the hell away from Gibbs. Remember, Gibbs is the one who pushed hard for Mark Brunell to come to Washington, even before Ramsay could show his new coach what he had to offer.

In DC he would be back up to their hot shot first rounder. In KC he'd be repolished for 2 years and may have a good shot at the starting position in 3.

Well, in 3 years he'll be 29. Not old but not exactly young either.

ArrowheadHawk 09-12-2005 06:16 PM

i think he is better than collins or huard

How old was Green when we got him? If we can make him the next Green, then I'd say we'd do well getting him. For a good bargain price that is.

Probably about the same age, maybe a little older. But Green had played in St. Louis under Vermeil, in the same offense.

The main thing is that Green had a good season with the Redskins and played masterfully in St. Louis for a chunk of the season after Warner went down. He proved that he was ready to take over a team as a franchise QB, he played well whenever given the chance to start.

Ramsey hasn't done anything in the league, despite Washington trying to make him their guy. He's blown his chance and had 2 or 3 of them. He's got talent but has yet to show anything else.

I would mind if we gave a low pick or something, it might be worth a shot, but I just don't see it ever working out.

Frankie 09-12-2005 06:27 PM

I'd go as high as a 4th for him.

I wonder if they could use Woods and say a 6th for Ramsey. Then we can sign Harts maybe to take Woods' place.

Hell yes, I'd be all for trading for him. He's looked good whenever I've seen him play. Since he was a Spurrier pick, and Gibbs has brought in Brunell and Campbell, Ramsey has no future in DC. Give them a 4th-5th rounder and get him in here to learn the system.

DV will never develop a QB here, and I assume Saunders will be the same way. We totally wasted a pick on Kilian this year when DV had no intention of keeping him over Huard or Collins. Vermiel believes that his 3rd stringer may have to play at some point, and gosh darn it, he is not going to chance it with a rookie in that roster spot. And Vermiel said last year that he's not going to keep a QB on the practice squad. So we're going to have to trade for our QBotF eventually. Might as well be now.

Patrick Ramsey is no Ted White.

Bootlegged 09-12-2005 08:19 PM

Ramsey is more Blundinesque than Vlasicopian.

Halfcan 09-12-2005 08:21 PM

Trade woods, Huard and Junior.

I saw a QB that kinda reminded me of Green his first year. Kid threw some INTs, forced a few, and made some bad passes. But he showed leadership and fire when he was on the field and he was able to move the ball with a bunch of scrubs to work with. Now, I don't know if he would have ever developed into the QBotF like we want, but he would have had a better chance than a guy that's been with multiple teams now. He would have cost us a lot less too - just a 7th rounder. But we decided to cut him and keep Huard.

yep... Clausen was the shiznit!

patteeu 09-12-2005 11:11 PM

A couple of people have mentioned trading Jerome Woods. I think the conventional wisdom is that if the Chiefs could afford the salary cap implications of trading him, he would have already been cut as a part of one of the preseason cutdowns.

As for Ramsey, I don't know that much about him, but I have to believe he'd be a better 3rd stringer / QBoTF than Huard. I wouldn't give up much to get him, but if it's a buyer's market I'd be interested.

Taco John 09-13-2005 12:09 AM

Reading about Ramsey on the Skins forum, it's hard to get a warm fuzzy about this guy. That said, I'd rather have him than Jake right about now.

I think Ramsey is looking for a shot at a starting position anyway, so I doubt he'll end up as a Chief.

Woods and Siavii are here for this year, the salary cap makes it work that way. Woods would already be gone if it was doable, so of course it's not.

Are you guys wanting to trade for Ramsey during this season or after the season is over? I'm not sure he can fit under our cap to do it before the year's over. He does have a first round pick contract.

Won't happen, too big of a cap hit.

Can't the Redskins agree to assuming Woods' contract while we assume Ramsey's?

Mecca 09-13-2005 07:40 AM

No, when you've given a player a signing bonus, when you cut or trade him you take that entire prorated hit when he is removed from your team.

Mr. Kotter 09-13-2005 07:40 AM

If we could do it, I think he'd be an improvement over what we have behind Green. However, cap issues and "middle of the season" concerns won't allow it to happen.

Yes and no.

They can assume the contract, which will erase his base from our cap. But they can't assume the cap hit created by the pro-rated siging bonus that we paid out two years ago. Woods' pro-rated bonus would dump about 4 million on our cap.

What's Ramsey's bonus? Do we know?

Mecca 09-13-2005 07:59 AM

Ramseys bonus isn't an issue to us that's the Skins issue. If we were gonna take him on, it would be his base salary that's the issue.

When you trade you lose the players base salary but the prorated bonus becomes a hit to your cap. When you take on a player in a trade you get nothing of the bonus but take on the base salary.

StcChief 09-13-2005 08:09 AM

the two picks we got for Fujita would be about it.

I admit I'm a bit confused here. Can't the two teams switch the existing bonuses with the agreement of both players? Ramsey wants out of DC and Woods wants out of KC. Why wouldn't they cooperate?

Mecca 09-13-2005 08:14 AM

No, there is no way to change bonus money the team is stuck with that. The only way would be if the player paid back the bonus to the team and well that won't happen.

Hoover 09-13-2005 08:16 AM

Before you make a deal like this you have to know what is going to take place after DV leaves. If Saunders is going to be HC, then it makes a ton of sence, if thats not the case I don't want to see the Chiefs trading draft picks for a guy when we don't know what the next HC wants.

If its me you make Saunders the HC, give Gun a ton of $$$ to stay, make the trade for Ramsey. We could retool very quickly on offense, and continue the build up on defense.

We need to invest some FA cash and high draft picks on the Oline, and at WR. I still think you have to go Defense in the first round next year. A D lineman, CB would be prefered by Hoover

So conceivably, they could agree to pay it back and receive the same amount from the other team. Right?

Very good post. Rep. :thumb:

Soupnazi 09-13-2005 09:52 AM

No thanks.

Todd Collins > Patrick Ramsey

Virtually any 1st or 2nd round QBOTF pick > Ramsey

The guy can't keep the starting job over an aged and hobbled Mark Brunell. He's a terrible decision maker from what I've seen.
