Casey Wiegmann deserves the Pro Bowl
Really...he does. This guy is such an unsung hero in Chiefsland and across the league it's not even funny.
Check this out. On LJ's second touchdown run, Wiegmann and Welbourn pull to the right. Denver's D.J. Williams comes SCREAMING through the backside hole and is headed right for Larry Johnson. This play is going to be killed in the backfield...and then Wiegmann stops pulling and stones D.J. Williams in midstride. LJ manages to follow the block of Welbourn (who cuts Al Wilson :D) and score, but Casey Wiegmann prevented DISASTER. Here's the replay: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4995/wiegmann9cj.gif And here are some stills: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8164/cw12jr.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1488/cw25dp.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7457/cw35rh.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7687/cw47df.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/4111/cw51743qf.jpg And one more angle: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1305/cw22jk.gif Also as noted in the screenshots, Michael Myers is a holding bitch. CHEATING DONKS! |
lol...thats quality!
|
good times - i noticed that block in realtime and said to self " self thats good blocking that guy deserves to go to the pro bowl'
|
Not too shabby for an undersized center. It seems like our Oline is constantly fighting amongst themselves to see who can be more underrated. Makes you wonder if the NFL could save a couple of bucks and get a group discount on airfare to Hawaii.
|
I would say Roaf shouldn't go this year. He's missed too many games and got owned in SD.

I wonder if that shouldn't have a twist on it by having a halfback option pass back to the qb, look how wide open Trent is and no one is near him at all...

man, that's a very cool presentation...I like it, and point taken...Weigmann is very good at leveraging/turning players when he doesn't have the size/strength to maul them...
great thread |
Really, look at how fast DJ Williams is coming in. Casey is athletic enough to stop on a dime, pivot and shove his ass out of the play.
Think Tim Grunhard could make that play? |

but I have a lot of people knocking down my door for Offensive coordination... |

Besides that, LJ can do anything else, lets see if he can throw... |
I too am becoming a backer of Wiegman for the Pro Bowl. His mobility is one of the reasons that we can consistently run outside.
The Broncos are a bunch of cheaters. Why is that guy just standing there trying to strangle Brian Waters instead of trying to make a tackle? |
the Center should be the most athletic lineman - Wiegmann IMO has showed hes a Pro Bowl starter all year.

I remember saying to myself the same thing. That block by Casey Weigman was very visable in real time. Dontcha just love those IOWA HAWKs :grovel: |
By the way...my highest compliments to gochiefs on this quality thread and video and stills.
Rep to you. I loved looking at this replay. |
I'd also like to point out that Tony G was WIDE OPEN on a post pattern on Kennison's 27-yard grab.
I honestly don't know why Green threw this ball to Kennison. Lynch had a better shot at jumping Kennison's route for an INT. Gonzalez could have had 40 yards on this play. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2358/gonzo1018rw.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1433/gonzo2223pp.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/443/gonzo3613py.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6892/gonzo4787jk.jpg http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/5...atch2613zm.jpg Last week on Kennison's 42-yard grab he was also wide open on a post pattern...he complained to Green after the play was over. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3527/1126copy8ya.jpg Bitching... http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/4933/24997az.jpg More bitching... http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6224/30423lf.jpg |
It's not uncommon to have multiple players open on a passing play. There's only one football and only so much time to look around and decide to throw to. A play is drawn up with a first option and progressions after that. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. If the first option is open, which it was on that play, the quarterback ain't gonna say "well ok let me see if option 3 is even more open".
The long pass to Dante Hall in the first quarter is actually a play that's missed more often then not since he was the 3rd or 4th option on that play and the only reason Trent looked over there was because his initial reads on the left side of the field were covered. |

there aren't too many teams that attempt something like that, it would be set up by running this play a couple of times prior to the half-back pass. It would be a total shock and he should be able to walk into the end zone totally untouched. If you look at the end of the still photos, there was no one on the other side of the hash marks.... Besides, you could always have a wr on the other side blocking or ready to block. Roaf was a slacker on the play, give him someone to block... :) |
Wiegmann has done a great job all year (aside from one bullrush in the first game, IIRC). He did a good job on "the dive" as well, IIRC. He deserves a trip to the PB.

Trent has had nightmares thinking about the possibilities of a pass to him, not because he's afraid of what will be done to him, but he's scared that he'll be wide open, unable to fracture an oncoming linebackers C2 vertebrae. |
Bump...Casey was pretty good in his prime...hell this wasn't even his prime.
|
Man seeing that makes me want to cry and long for the good ol days of chiefs football...
|
I think Casey could be a good mentor for a younger center to come in. This guy knew how to open up holes which is reinforced by watching him play over the years. Bring back the toss sweep!

I think he already was, i.e. the rudy guy |
