I could see Priest being our Marcus Allen next year.

short yardage duties and goalline carries. I don't think priest would mind handing LJ the bulk of the load while priest racks up the cheap scores. And I don't think LJ would have a problem with this, as I think he just wants the bulk of the carries.

I think this combo could be o our benefit next year. Thoughts?

eta: Priest also would be better at blocking for trent in passing situations...

Demonpenz 12-11-2005 12:59 AM

i just want priest back for one last call

Hammock Parties 12-11-2005 01:00 AM

If they take LJ out in the redzone, a major shitstorm will result.

Hows LJ supposed to represent the Roca Wear?

Mecca 12-11-2005 01:02 AM

The only way this situation is going to work out with Holmes still on the roster. Would be if he does what Faulk did in St. Louis, where he voluntered to take a paycut and be the backup.

jjchieffan 12-11-2005 01:04 AM

Heck, if they do that, Priest might reset that touchdown record next year. Of course LJ will get his touchdowns to, they will just ne from 10-20 or more yards out

he'll just have to score from outside 10.

Priest still has a nose for the endzone, and I think having him focus on getting in the endzone might play to his strengths.

Halfcan 12-11-2005 01:08 AM

I am not going to get into this debate.

I don't think there's much to debate anymore. I think it's known to everyone that Priest can't handle the full load, and giving LJ the bulk of the carries and Priest the tough yards would be the best thing for next year's team IMO. It's time for a changing of the guard...

I have to agree

Hammock Parties 12-11-2005 01:14 AM

I think Priest will retire anyway.

Nightwish 12-11-2005 01:14 AM

I'd be happy just to have Priest make it through a whole season!

I honestly dont think he will. Unless the doctors tell him not to return. But honestly, who knows?? Priest beats to the beat of his own drum.

jjchieffan 12-11-2005 01:18 AM

I thought that they should have done it this year. I think so even more now. LJ is doing great, but we kicked 3 field goals in a row from inside the 20 against NE. I think with Priest we get TD's on at least 2. Didnt matter then, but with this tough stretch ahead, it might. Had we used Priest only in short yardage and goal to go situations, he would probably be available now.

Hammock Parties 12-11-2005 01:22 AM

The thing that I am afraid of is Priest coming back and being anointed the starter. That's total BS.

007 12-11-2005 01:28 AM

You know that is what DV would do.

dtebbe 12-11-2005 01:32 AM

Your hopes are higher than mine, I can see Priest eating Nachos in San Antonio next year..

DT

The Chiefs can ask for some of his salary back if he retires. he's coming back.

siberian khatru 12-11-2005 11:20 AM

If Priest comes back, he's just gonna have to be the backup. Period. Get 5-10 carries a game. Be ready in case LJ gets injured.

Pasta Little Brioni 12-11-2005 11:23 AM

i would like to see priest back next year, but only to give LJ breathers during games and maybe occasional 3rd down back. it would be good to have him back for backup purposes next year.

I'm getting out the torches and pitchforks if that happens. I would have no problem with Priest in the Marcus Allen role. That would be the other team's problem. A really big problem.

ChiefsfaninPA 12-11-2005 12:02 PM

We all know how great Priest is, but I do not see him accepting less than a starting role. I am sure he has a ego like all of us and he feels he is still starting material. Hopefully I am wrong and he does come back we could use him.

Psyko Tek 12-11-2005 12:14 PM

This could be a good situation
we got Priest on the bench wanting his old job back and LJ running angry to keep his

they're both gonna try and prove themselve as long as it doesn't go back to alternating series the competion could drive them both to new hieghts

Mr. Krab 12-11-2005 12:34 PM

Holmes would be a very expensive short yardarge back.

Over-Head 12-11-2005 12:43 PM

sure, as long as he don't get hurt or god forbid injured and out of a season or two.

NFL16 12-11-2005 12:49 PM

Not sure about this, but how would Priest do as a wide receiver? Not on every snap but just occasionally.

The man would do well in either position IMO

He'd be good in the slot. He has great hands.

The thing is, as you watch LJ play, game to game, you see his rapid growth and progress, and see Al develop a better understanding of how best to utilize his talent.

I believe that LJ, in the same situations against NE now would score TDs, where he didn't then.

I'd like to see Priest back for another season, but not in a "Marcus Allen" role, but more of a "Marshall Faulk" role.

LJ's time has come to be the man.
It's time for Priest to take on the role of understudy.

craneref 12-11-2005 01:14 PM

I personally like the slot ideal, with both Priest and LJ lining up in the backfield then shifting Priest out to a slot, and occasionally sliding LJ to the slot. LJ is becoming a good receiver and with his side and speed would be a serious mismatch for a LB or nickel back. GO CHIEFS.

I'm pretty sure LJ would have a problem giving all the gift wraped TDs to Priest.

Keep in mind this is not the Priest holmes of 3 years ago. He's a different player now.

Give the load to LJ and let priest get some carries when LJ needs a rest.

cmh6476 12-18-2005 09:42 AM

ping2000 12-18-2005 09:46 AM

Unfortunately, I think all Priest will be doing next year is eating nachos.

Wichita Lineman 12-18-2005 11:58 AM

I agree I think this would be able to work but that's next year. A whole lot is going to happen before next year.

Thig Lyfe 12-18-2005 12:27 PM

That would be a nice situation, actually
