I wonder if this is like one of those dreams where I realize that I'm dreaming, but the dream is so damn boring that I just ignore the rest of it. Which is a bit like your wife watching The View in the other room, you can't see the picture, you hear some background noise, but you just don't care one bit what any of the voices are saying.

Then he woke up, and reality set in.
