Ok this may cross the line, but I am not afraid to show my political party favorite and think that it would be fun to see who would win a Presidential election, on a Chiefs Planet.

Let me state- up until the election it is OK to change your vote if you feel the need- on the day of the election all votes will be final, tallied, and official. Please indicate on your post if you are changing a previous vote (this will make it easier for me to keep a running tally on votes.

No Non-candidates will be counted. Example: I really want to vote for ALGORE, but instead i think I will choose Rich Gannon. However, all candidates on the ticket are acceptable (i.e. Ralph Nader)

And with that being said let me cast the first vote for:

The candidate that best represents my political philosophy is Harry Brown of the Libertarian Party. He has no chance to win. This leaves me the choice of picking the evil of two lessors. Bush is closer over all to my way of thinking than Gore However: I do like the Balance created between Congress and the White house with a liberal executive and a conservative congress. The true lasting power of a President is in the appointment of Judges. These are lifetime appointments and will have a great lasting impact on our lives. My legal philosophy is almost evenly divided between the left and the right. I detest the authoritarian attitude of the right and have great disdain for the meddlesome protect us from ourselves attitude from the left. So what is a person to do?
I guess my vote is for Bush. I see him as slightly less full of excrement than Gore.

I am also much closer to the libertarian way of thinking.

Government should protect our borders, protect individual rights listed in the constitution, and enforce justice against those that violate those rights.

Government should pretty much stay out of all else.

Since neither party will do that, will go with the party that will take less from my wallet.

I am a Libertarian, but there is no way a Libertarian gets the office. So I am stuck with Gore or Bush. I don’t like either. But the decision is simple: I cannot abide the thought of Gore picking Supreme Court Justices. I want my Court conservative. Rule strictly by the Constitution. I hate to see the Judicial system legislating from the bench.

Therefore, with sadness in my heart, a tear in my eye and a bad odor in my nose, I will cast my vote for Bush.

I hate the 2 party system. Partisanship overrides sense of duty. With that being said I lean towards the conservative side and am partially responsible for the last 8 years as I voted for Perot in 92'.

I won't make that mistake again. So, I will vote for Bush.

One last thing, since the 2 party system is here to stay I wish the issue of term limits would be raised again. Many republicans elected to congress in 94 were elected because they supported term limits, only to table the issue once they gained control.

I don't trust any of them.

Another Libertarian here, but every time I vote for 'em a Democrat sneaks into office. So this time I'm voting for G-Dub.

I am from Hillsboro (a suburb of Portland). You might be surprised how many of us there are. We just aren't talked about as much in the media. Kinda like the Chiefs not getting any publicity because it is not glamorous.

Example: Do you report about people that are generally conservative and don't create exciting news headlines or do you report about the protesters at the WHO rallies. Everyone imagines a bunch of "tree huggers" (no offense meant if you love trees) here in Oregon, because we have a lot of trees . Well, it may surprise a lot of people to know but there are a lot of large companies here in Oregon. (Nike and Intel, and many other Tech comapnies are very big where I live)

Bush and company have been here a lot trying to get the vote!

There are things that I like and dislike about both canidates, but my policital views are closer to the Libertarian view than the 2 major parties. The paradox with George Bush is that he wants to "Empower" the individual except in the area of abortion, whereas he wants the government to decide what a woman can and cannot do with her body. For that reason alone, I must (unenthusiastically) vote for Al Gore.

That is true, Bush does feel that abortion does kill innocent children, that's a normal conservative view.

Gore at one time was against abortion but has turned into a killer of innocent children, which, is one more reason I can't vote for him.

In general, Libertarians are oriented towards individual rights and responsibility. They are willing to take personal responsibility for the choices they make and do not want the government making those choices for them.

For example, most Libertarians would not prevent you from smoking dope, but would punish the crap out of you if you got stoned and caused a car wreck. Most Libertarians wonder exactly what National Security Issues were at risk in Bosnia. Most Libertarians would oppose the government limiting abortion, even though they might be personally against it. Most Libertarians want less government intrusion in every aspect of life, both social and economic arenas.

Libertarians tend to hold to the Constitution, period. You will find that most are states rights advocates who want the smallest Federal government possible.

Since the Constitution provides the foundation for the Libertarian viewpoint, they tend to be more conservative than liberal, but this should not be confused with Republican Vs Democrat.

Ralph Nader is the green party.

Actually I am much more of a Libertarian than a republican. The Libertarians believe in a MUCH smaller goverment and much less legislation. Everyone being held accountable for their own actions. No stupid laws that try and legislate what your morals should be.( The main difference ). The only laws would those that infringe on others rights. It's a great party actually.

I ask this purely out of curiosity and in no way to question your decision in this highly unscientific staw poll. As a Libertarian, doesn't it gall you to have to make a lesser of evils choice, when the legitimacy and future of the Libertarian party could hinge on a good showing on Nov. 7th? Were I to become a Libertarian and care passionately about the monopoly of a corrupt two party system ruining the future of the country, I'd be hard pressed not to stick with my principles and vote for my candidate, even if it was only symbolic. Thoughts?

It sticks in my craw something fierce.

To be honest, the Libertarian party is more of a philosophy than an actual party. We will not win the Presidency. We will not control Congress. We will not eliminate the despised two-party system that is crushing this society, IMO.

Like it or not, the two-party system is so entrenched that we may never be rid of it. A Libertarian candidate has zero chance of becoming President.

So I am faced with a choice:
1. Be dogmatic and vote Libertarian despite the sure knowledge that my man CANNOT win.
2. Be pragmatic and vote for the Republican or Democrat who is closest to my perspective.

I choose pragmatism, but I do not like it.

I do not believe in Socialism.

I do not believe that the State is more important than the individual. I do not believe that the State is smarter than I, nor do I believe it knows what is best for me. I do not believe that you empower people to greatness by making them dependent on you (through fear, intimidation, or economics). I do not believe in world government (unless it's ours).

I believe politicians are elected to make hard choices about which programs are a high enough priority to fund, not easy choices about how much more revenue can we raise (or debt can we withstand) to fund every program we want.

A vote for Al Gore is a vote for the above.

I don't vote along party lines, but for the better candidate. I wanted Bush in '92, and Clinton in '96 over Dole. In my eyes, the better candidate is clearly Gore. He's a very smart man, and yet I don't agree with everything he says and does, I'd much rather have him leading our country than Braindead Bush.

Gore it is.

Problem with our voting system is that 50% of the voting power in this country only pays a small percentage of the taxes. The actual people that pay the burden of the taxes in this country are misrepresented at the polls. Those 50% want candidates that will give them more because it will be paid for by others. The Dems thrive on this and use scare tactics to make these people think they will lose their government benefits if a Republican is elected. Bigger government, more taxes, and the people that pay the burden are not fairly represented at the polls. Doesn't seem right.

The Republican party isn't perfect either but it is closer to what I believe in. My vote goes to Bush.

Check them out...Bush WAY outperformed GORE...AS I recall, Bush got an MBA and Gore flunked out of Law school.

This is a tough one.

I absolutely dislike Bush as a person. There's something about him that just annoys me. I also dislike Cheney. But, Bush's values and beliefs and programs are things that tend to go along with what I believe in.

I dislike Gore a little less, he comes off as more personable. I also really like Lieberman. Unfortunately, Gore agrees with very little that I believe in.

So the sticking point for me is the fact that whoever is elected President is going to be in charge of nominating Justices. And I want a President that will nominate conservative Justices that will back up the Constitution.

So, reluctantly, I'll be voting for Bush.
