Bad News for Priest

Shaun Alexander has 27 Touchdowns.

26 rushing, 1 receiving, and 1,807 yards rushing on 350 carries. It looks as if he's goin to break his record.

The only way he doesnt is if he doesnt play in this game.

On a side note, I hope Priest comes back and is able to back up Larry Johnson. That would be a dinamic 1-2 punch, Larry the power, priest the finisher.

htismaqe 12-28-2005 09:02 AM

Alexander will break the total TD record.

But he needs two rushing TD's to break Priest's rushing TD record.

Priest isn't coming back.

greg63 12-28-2005 09:03 AM

Hey; it's the nature of the beast. Records are set to be broken.

BigChiefFan 12-28-2005 09:04 AM

He may tie it, but they're aren't any guarantees he will have two RUSHING TDs his next game.

JBucc 12-28-2005 09:04 AM

Especially this record it seems

ChiefsfaninPA 12-28-2005 09:05 AM

That's alright, next year LJ will surpass whomever has the record.

Why do you believe he wont be back.

Did you hear that Trent Green had a stent put in his leg? How do you think that will affect his play????

It's pretty obvious.

From the rumors that he was going to retire before he was put on IR, to the trips to multiple doctors in an effort to get the diagnosis he wants.

Their going through a positioning phase right now, which is why Priest hasn't been around the team at all.

Peterson wants the bonus money back, Priest wants to keep it.

So now he's Stent Green?

Bob Dole 12-28-2005 09:52 AM

Has anyone heard the rumors that Mike Martz has heart problems?

Very true... but, they're playing Green Bay this weekend and while Alexander may only see action in the 1st quarter, that may be all the time he needs to score twice running the ball.

I doubt that Holmgren keeps him in much longer than that just to get the title.... hell, I wouldn't even play him this week.

I think that story went around after his hip injury. I won't count him out until it's announced. Specualtion in this case is just that speculation. His last report showed marked improvement.

I would rather think that he returned, if it will not risk him for permanent damage, and retire where he is destined to retire, at the place and time of his choice, not that of an injury.

What last report? From the team?

You're not going to get the real story from the team. They want everybody to think that Priest is progressing and getting healthy. Why?

Because then when he retires, he has to give back money.

The latest report is the one I linked to:

Quote:

HOLMES NEWS NOT ROSY: Two weeks ago we reported that Chiefs running back Priest Holmes was meeting with renowned spine specialist Dr. Robert Wadkins to determine if the injury to his spinal canal has subsided. The news, however, was not what was expected.

Multiple sources close to Holmes told FOX Sports that the injured area has not healed like they had hoped it would. Initially, the player was told that the spinal canal would hopefully heal within 30 days and he could then resume his career. Instead he was informed that the area has not healed sufficiently and the doctor wants to re-examine him in another three months.

Holmes, according to teammates, is getting antsy regarding resuming his career. A one-month injury has now turned into, at a minimum, a four-month injury. His teammates do not believe he will return to the playing field, due to the area of the injury. In addition they believe it wouldn't be worth it for him to risk further injury to his neck just to fight it out with rising stud Larry Johnson at camp next year.

We are not reporting that Holmes has decided to retire but such an injury has to weigh heavily in his decision-making process. On Saturday against the Giants, Johnson had his seventh consecutive 100-yard rushing game. He also scored two touchdowns, giving him 16, the third highest total in club history. Considering the Chiefs have the fourth most money against the salary cap next year, having Holmes retire may be the best thing for the team, especially since it's hard to pay two franchise backs.
Notice that this came from "sources close to Holmes". Funny how the team says he's good and sources close to Priest say he's not progressing well at all.

This is about money. He won't play another down for the Chiefs.

I hope you are wrong. Not to be an ass, but because he deserves to retire on his own terms, not due to an injury.

My feelings are mixed.

For the good of the team, and for his own good, it's time for Priest to go. The team needs the cap space and he needs to stop before he gets hurt REALLY bad (or worse). I really want him to retire.

However, I think it should be on his terms. He's done too much for this franchise to just be thrown aside.

That being said, if he's faking an injury in an effort to keep more money, that's low beyond low and would nullify my opinion that it should be on his terms...

Calcountry 12-28-2005 11:24 AM

A lot of the credit for Priest's record goes to our Offensive line. Still the best in the NFL.

LJ sure does like it.

Remember, this is the same coach that ran a QB sneak when Alexander needed 1 yard to win the rushing title.

Holmgren cares less about personal records than his chance to win the SuperBowl

...and priest ain't comin back
