he hinted he wouldn't declare cause the top 5 teams this draft wouldn't be looking for a QB after Leinart...which means big money loss. I think that might have changed today.

Halfcan 01-04-2006 11:31 PM

Why not? Jeez the guy is unstopable, he has a rocket arm plus speed to burn-this guy is going to be a stud in the NFL.

Lbedrock1 01-04-2006 11:32 PM

wish the chiefs would get him. He is what they thought Mike Vick would be. Able to pass from the pocket and run.

Hammock Parties 01-04-2006 11:32 PM

He's not a pro QB.

Actually I may have to recant. He's gotten better every year and completed 64 percent of his passes this year. 26 TDs, 10 INT. Led the nation in QB rating.

What am I missing?

BigRedChief 01-04-2006 11:41 PM

the guy will make it as a NFL QB. He's big, strong, runs like the wind. Highest pass efficiency rating in college ball this year. Yep, sounds like a failure to me

I was going to say-did you see any games this year. He is a monster talent-better than Vick-after this game-teams will be licking their chops to get this guy. No way he falls back to the Chiefs. Number one is my guess.

USC's defense tried everything to stop him-and got an azzwippin.

teedubya 01-04-2006 11:44 PM

Dude was personally responsible for 200 yards rushing...3 TDs on the Ground. 260+ yards passing with like 28/39 completion

Unreal.

I have never seen a single game performance as impressive as Vince Youngs tonight.

Best performance in College Football History?

Shit. If I was him, I would gauge the Houston Texans interest... I think if they drafted Vince Young, fans would go crazy there.

Why sign Reggie Bush 1st overall, when you can have a homestate hero?

KCwolf 01-04-2006 11:48 PM

The performance tonight was unreal....TK13 is a JOKE. Period.
And match Vince's night w/last year vs. Michigan and it may be the best Bowl performances ALL-TIME. Very Very Impressive.

Mecca 01-04-2006 11:50 PM

Call Tk all the names you won't fact is he's right. This this is a bunch of big 12 homers jerking off about a QB who trusts his legs more than his arm.

The guy isn't a #1 the guy isn't a top 10 hell the guy probably isn't first round as a QB. I think he could be a good NFL WR however.

I'm sure if Marcus Vick was in the big 12 we'd get a thread circle jerking about how he's a #1 too.

Imon Yourside 01-04-2006 11:52 PM

27 passing TDs/10 interceptions: highest passer rating in college

I don't know about what draft slot he would go, but if he wants to become a better passer he should stay at Texas one more year. He has become a better passer every year. He would be even better after another year in college. His growth might be stunted when he gets to the pros.

By the way, Vince was 30/40 tonight for 267 yards.

obesecomic 01-04-2006 11:55 PM

Vince Young

Vince will stay for one more year for only one reason. People dont respect him as a passer, and he needs to work on that. If he gets rid of that pussy throwing motion, he could be good. Who knows, he could get compared to Randall Cunningham instead of Vick if he learns to throw.

CanadaKC 01-04-2006 11:55 PM

We have our Vince Young...his name is Casey Printers... :BS:

Mecca 01-04-2006 11:56 PM

If he had went to a college where they actually coach their kids. His mechanics would be better by now, you can ask John Gruden on that.

JohnnyV13 01-04-2006 11:56 PM

Vince Young would be foolish to leave for the NFL. I (gasp) agree with GoChiefs. He's not an NFL passer. His arm is ok, but many of his passes float, he doesn't read defenses very fast, and his response to pressure is to run.

He's NOT an NFL-ready prospect. He has tools, but I think he's best served honing his game one more year.

teedubya 01-04-2006 11:56 PM

I could have cared less who won this game... If Vince Young had been on the Louisville Cardinals and put up those numbers... I would still say, that was teh best personal statistical performance EVER in sports.

Name one thing more impressive than Vince Young's performance tonight. One?

RJ 01-04-2006 11:58 PM

Great athlete but no way those runs out of the pocket would work in an NFL game. Pro linebackers and safetys would knock him on his ass, as he should have been several times tonight.

Maybe not Chief linebackers and safetys, but other team's.

Bitter much?

kcfanintitanhell 01-04-2006 11:58 PM

No doubt about it, I was absolutely friggin blown away by his performance tonight, but there is still a nagging doubt as to whether what he has been able to do on that stage can transcend to the big stage: maybe it can, but in the bigs, IMHO, he has to stay a bit more patient in the pocket, or NFL linebackers will hurt him.
But then again, if he's got a good head, and willing to learn, he may become the bastard child of Peyton Manning and Michael Vick.
Hope he does.

VY is much bigger than Vick and that is why he will be a force at QB in the NFL. SC blitzed him with Ting & Ting (B Sapp) and he shook them off his leg like a Poodle on his leg. He also broke many other tackles to stay alive in the pocket.

Running QB's who turn into WR's in the NFL are usually smaller and rely on their quickness to succeed on the college level. VY has the ability (McNair - McNabb) to take on a LB and still get a throw off.

At least Mack seems to have actually taught his QB some sportsmanship.

Can't read Defenses? I thought Dan Fouts commented on how his height gives him an advantage on reading Defenses.... this is when he was 12 - 14 (in the first half). He finished the game 30/40. His year QB rating was 111.

obesecomic 01-05-2006 12:19 AM

Reggie can't run between the tackles in college, what makes you think he will magically be able to do it in the pros. He has good hands, and can run outside good, sounds like a WR to me.

Explain to me how being tall has anything to do with reading a defense. I guess if taller people are smarter you'd have something there......

The line of thought is that you can see over the big tall offensive linemen and defenders.

For the same reason, college QBs who have sidearm deliveries are frowned upon.

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-05-2006 12:22 AM

If Vince Young can stop making stupid decisions like throwing up the ball for grabs, not tucking the ball away, throwing the ball carelessly to avoid being sacked.......... he just might be the next Michael Vick with less agility..........yup not so special. Note to Vince: NFL teams not named the chiefs usually wrap up and hit hard. good luck

The advantage has to do with seeing over O and D Lineman. This allows the QB in the pocket to not have to look between the gaps.

You can not seriuously be asking how height is an advantage at the QB position can you? It is not only the ability to throw between (or over) the defenderes, but to also see the WR's and DB's that are in the play downfield.

Why do you hate Rush so much? Is it the killer lyrics, the expert playing ability, is it the huge connection they have with their fans all over the world-maybe that they have sold nearly 40 million records and have played 1500 sold out shows, including 5 straight nights at Madison Square Garden. Maybe it's the fact they are all about the music. Critics, radio, MTV, fashion trends, mean shit to them. They worked up from dive clubs, to be the best rock band in the world. Maybe its because they came back after Neil Peart lost his daughter and wife-and the band was all but dead-but somehow managed to overcome tragedy, to release an incredible CD in Vapor Trails, a multi platinum DVD-Rush in Rio, sold out concerts all over the world, and then celebrated 30 years of friendship with R30. They have a connection with their fans like no other-they have inspired countless bands, writers, and won the highest award given in Canada. Yeah your right they suck.

Funny you should talk about hate-I am not the one with F TEXAS in every thread.

Leinarts going to be like Trent Green in the NFL. That's my feeling on him. He's smart can get the ball to his playmakers make the right reads at the line all of that sorta stuff. But if you're gonna ask him to be the man and win games for you, I don't think he can do that.

Simms got little coaching because he couldn't even beat out Major Applewhite for the starting position. I wouldn't rely on Gruden's opinion of the coaching of a former NFL QB's son to determine how Young's career will progress.

Young success in the NFL, as with all QB's, will depend largely on his supporting cast. But I don't see how anyone can say he'll be a flop when he holds the best QB efficiency rating in all of college football.

I didn't say he CAN'T read defenses, I just said he seemed SLOW in reading defenses. It could be his offense is not a timing offense like KC's (or USC) for that matter. To me, it doesn't look like he goes through progressions that much. I think he's going to need work at the NFL level.

Notice when he was pressured with the Blitz on the last drive? His first thought was to run. Now, it works b/c he's a damn elusive runner. But I don't think he has the super agility of michael vick, though his passing numbers in college are much better than Vick's.

I am saying that it helps him read the defense. You have to see th WR before you can throw it to him. That is at about the same height.

I too wanted SC to win today. I have family close to the program and I agreed to root for SC if they rooted for the Chiefs.

I got behind VY in last years Rose Bowl when he took control of the game and beat Michigan. This years game was very similiar, however, he was facing a team that could beat the Texans without Derrick Johnson forcing turnovers on the D side of the field.

You are unfairly comparing VY to running QB's. If he is such a bad passer then why is his QB Rating so good?

Mecca 01-05-2006 12:49 AM

He's in an offense built for him, look at Alex Smiths numbers in Utah last season.

this does not always translate into NFL success (any Texas Tech QB, David Carr, any University of Houston QB back in the day, any number of the first round busts over the years) As for Simms... Texas fans wish Applewhite was the starter. Simms was alway undeservingly given the starting job

Young will be a better QB than Ron Mexico.

But as htismage frequently points out - better than bad does not equal good.
