Are you a Conservative, Moderate, or a Liberal

Please do not turn this polling thread into a political pile on. In fact I would like it if you only explain why you categorized yourself as you do in the poll.

Mods: I am asking a little tolerance here in asking you to allow this to stay on the main page for the remainder of the week so as to maximize the respondents.

Thanks Vlad

Hammock Parties 01-23-2006 11:13 PM

I guess I will vote moderate since I am mixed on many issues.

For instance, I support the war in Iraq but I also support gay marriage.

Edit: right-leaning moderate.

No Skip, I am trying to get the broadest range of responses. I have asked everyone not to turn this into a political venting, just state their position on their philosophical leaning. I hope it can be here for the remainder of the week then it can be moved. The poll is set to expire in 6 days.

Socially I'm with you. As long as you pursuing your happiness doesn't infring on any one else's rights to life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness then go right ahead and do it. It's all good. Gay marriage? Why not let them suffer, too? Sex with your goat? Whatever. Just don't ask me to watch or, frankly, give a s**t what you're doing.

Fiscally I'm very conservative. The govt. needs to get the hell out of my pocket and get back to only doing the very few things the Constitution said they should. This trillion dollar budget crap is just that: crap.

Foreign policy I'm a real mix. I would cut off nearly all foreign aid, I'd bring our troops home from just about everywhere. However, I'd also be bombing Iraq and Korea into the stone age. Psychos don't need nukes.

Left-leaning moderate.

Abortion, welfare, gun control, affirmative action: conservative

Taxes, government, defense: moderate

Environment, education, gay marriage: liberal

Immigration: no thoughts on it

War in general: moderate

War in Iraq: against, though the majority of reasons for supporting or rejecting the war which I've heard from people are not particularly based upon broadly conservative or liberal viewpoints, but rather upon specific incidents, so Iraq is sort of outside the whole conservative/liberal paradigm.

I don't.

I have tendancies toward both spectrums based on my over-arching philosophies of Libertarianism, Individualism, and Objectivism.

I also think what passes as Conservativism in today's political landscape is a farce, and am critical of it because of this belief. Thus, I am painted as a Liberal, mostly from indoctrined neo-conservatives who believe in Conservativism to the point that it crosses their theological boundaries in a way that they disagree with. That's when you'll see State's Rights "conservatives" become theological liberals, ready to force their will on you by act of government. I hate that crap.

moderate conserative.

leaning slightly to the right, i'm against gun control. i personally don't agree with abortion, but i also believe the gov needs to quit making decisions for me, so i think that people should have the choice. i disagree with supporting the non workers, even though i'm presently without work.
most of all though i'm anti coruption. which pretty much makes me anti-poltician.

I would guess that there are some in the Left leaning moderate group that are not voting liberal because of how it looks on the board.

Bob Dole 01-24-2006 05:40 AM

Does ending up smack-dab in the center of the politicalcompass graph make one a centrist?

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: 0.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.46

Herzig 01-24-2006 06:54 AM

I consider myself non partisan(though I voted for left leaning moderate). I've never understood people who vote strictly partisan. In my opinion, our system of government is one of the most broken democracies in the world. It seems to no longer represent the people...more of a representation of big money, special interest groups, religous groups etc., more than the common man. I blame this partially on the lack of real choice, the 2 party system, and lack of voter participation(which may be a caused by the 1st two).

Amnorix 01-24-2006 06:57 AM

I'm either a liberal or a left-leaning moderate, that much is clear. I selected liberal, however. I'm not entirely sure I'm far enough over for that title, but I'm not afraid of it, so why not.

deadbabyseal 01-24-2006 07:02 AM

Somewhat to the right of George W. Bush, and somewhat to the left of Adolf Hitler. Does that make me a centrist?

Nice haiku.

I'm right leaning to center, but there should be a poll or link to a test (I remember an online test to see where one is on the quadrant of behavior make-up one has. If anyone knows about that, please link it.)

Are you conservative, depending on response to abortion, gay relationships? I saw an article on all 14 gay republicans in JOCO. I figured that was an oxymoron until reading the link on Abe Lincoln's view of what to do with the slaves.

These terms are bullshit, for the most part. I don't think people make these types of decisions, their decisions don't make their types.

Well I believe we need to guard the borders with flamethrowers and stop giving illegal aliens social security. I also believe we need to stop sending our jobs overseas and force American businesses to keep theirlabor pools here. However I am against the war and think that using an an attack by an Afghanistan based terrorist cell to justify an attack on Iraq, so that Cheney and his old cronies at Haliburton can line their pockets is a sham.I think"supporting our troops" should mean bringing them home now so they can live out their lives. Thanks to Bush ,I now believe our presidential candidates should have to take a televised I.Q. test before taking office. I'm against prayer in school since this country is made up of people from many different religions and having a class pray to just one is hypocritical. I'm for first trimester abortion regardless of the situation the mother is in if she feels she wants one. however I'm against partial birth and late term abortions.

I also believe in a maximum wage, however we should get rid of welfare except for mothers that were bailed on by deadbeat dads and people unable to work. And getting rid of medicare is just freaking stupid.

Hope that clears things up.

Good call. I agree w/ everything this post says except

Abortion - if you werent raped. If you can't take care of a baby keep your damn legs closed. This OTC morning after pill is going to turn our youth into a bunch of dirty sluts.

Maximum Wage? WTF, unlimited earning potential is what makes us better than Canada.

Immigration - there are legal ways for people to come to this country and I have no problem w/ that. It is the illegal ones that can't get a driver's license, buy car insurance, can't go to jail, can't pay taxes, work for cash and send it to mexico. the list goes on and on.
