Aaron Guiel and Matt Stairs 5, USA 0. In progress...

WBC, baby! Canada is thus far embarrassing America 5-0 in the top of the fourth. Guiel's playing a goog game so far, with a walk and a triple.

CoMoChief 03-08-2006 04:22 PM

Willis pitched not that bad of a game, its just nobody could back him up in the field. We can't play defense for the life of us today.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:23 PM

Justin Morneauwned!

JBucc 03-08-2006 04:24 PM

I didn't even know they were Canadian.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:24 PM

I'd really like for USA to win this thing, but the Royals fan in me wants to see Guiel and Stairs succeed.

sedated 03-08-2006 04:24 PM

Maybe Guiel tearing up the USA team will get him some much deserved playing time here in KC.

but probably not.

wolfpack0735 03-08-2006 04:26 PM

didn`t know there was enough americans to make a team.

tk13 03-08-2006 04:26 PM

Stairs with a 2 RBI single... 7-0 Canada. This is unbelievable.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:26 PM

Matt Stairs knocks in 2 RBI

Canada leads 7-0

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:29 PM

IF we keep playing lile we have today, then the DOminican is going to walk away with this tournament

They were impressive yesterday. To me the two X-factors are Cuba and Japan. I'm not quite sure how they will stack up against these superstar MLB teams...

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:31 PM

Guiel struck out looking. Still, the damage was done that inning with two more runs.

Real impressive. I thought Venezuela's pitching would have kept those bats in check somewhat.
Then they put up double digits on Johan Santana and crew. They're the heavy favorites now, with two low scoring efforts from USA.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:39 PM

USA trying to mounting a comeback; 2 on, 1 out. Veritek in a hitter's count.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:40 PM

Pop fly, Texiaria advances to 3rd. 2 out.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:43 PM

Inning over, no runs scored.
The Big Bad bats of Canada (ROFL) come back for the top of the 5th

This is the only reason I even care about the WBC. If Guiel tears it up here, the Royals are either forced to give him playing time or will hopefully be ridiculed for not giving him playing time.

I swear we are a different team with Guiel in the lineup.

Preferably hitting 1st or 2nd. I can live with DeJesus at leadoff, but geesh, give me Guiel batting #2 over Mark Grudz... any day.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:46 PM

CANADA WITH THE INSIDE-THE-PARK-HR to make the score 8-0!!!

It's Guiel vs Ambres for the 4th outfield spot. WHo knows at this point who it will be. Guiel's probably the safer pick.

JBucc 03-08-2006 04:48 PM

Can we end the WBC and declare DR champions now?

Don't count the offensive powerhouse Canada out!

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:58 PM

And America prevents a shutout! 8-1 Canada.

In unrelated news, the crawl at the bottom of the screen said the Eagles signed Shawn Barber to a one year deal.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 04:58 PM

8-2 Canada! 'Merrrrica coming back...

Reaper16 03-08-2006 05:08 PM

Grand Slam by Veritek! 8-6 Canada. Wow.

DaKCMan AP 03-08-2006 05:09 PM

grand slam

8-6

Coach 03-08-2006 05:10 PM

Jeez, that ball was murdered.

Reaper16 03-08-2006 05:10 PM

He did the same thing to beat the Royals @ Fenway last year.

Coach 03-08-2006 06:12 PM

And Canada upsets the United States, with a score of 8-6.

What a letdown.

tk13 03-08-2006 06:13 PM

That was freaking embarrassing. They used a single-A pitcher in the 8th and a guy who started at AA last year in the 9th, and closed out a lineup of all-stars.

VonneMarie 03-08-2006 06:30 PM

Blame Canada...

banyon 03-08-2006 06:35 PM

Blame Marlins pitching:

D Willis (L, 0-1) 2 2/3 6 5 5 2 2 0 16.87
A Leiter 2/3 3 2 2 1 0 0 27.00

Are they going to replay this game on ESPN?

Is this reason enough to invade Canada, yet?

I think so, sometime in 2 in the morning I believe. Not sure. Might want to check your TV guide or http://tv.yahoo.com with your zip code in there.

I heard someone say today that Mike Piazza is playing for Italy.

I didn't get a chance to find out if they were joking or not. Is this true?

Pujols should be playing for America! :cuss:

chefsos 03-09-2006 11:52 AM

These quotes are funny, or troubling, considering the fact that USA manager Buck Martinez is an Orioles broadcaster:

Quote:

When Team USA center fielder Vernon Wells was asked what he knew about Canada starter Adam Loewen hours before yesterday's game, you might as well have asked him the square root of 892.

"He's tall," Wells said. "He throws a baseball. And he's Canadian."

"What organization is he with?" Jeter asked afterward, betraying his complete ignorance of Adam Loewen to that point. Told Loewen belongs to the Orioles, Jeter's eyes widened. "I'm sure," Jeter said, "I'll be seeing a lot of him."
