DaKCMan AP 07-07-2006 06:36 PM

going to see it later tonight :thumb:

the Talking Can 07-07-2006 07:52 PM

it was ****ing terrible...it seemed like a 4 hour movie...basically just one chase scene after another for 2 hours...

like the first one, couldn't believe how bad this was...

keg in kc 07-07-2006 08:03 PM

I was disappointed. I didn't dislike it, per se, but I didn't like it, either, not the way I enjoyed the first one. It just seemed long and meandering and devoid of substance. Depp's acting acting and the cool CGI were the only real high points.

Halfcan 07-07-2006 08:14 PM

It is getting pretty bad reviews, probably will pass since the trailors looked lame.

Gravedigger 07-07-2006 09:20 PM

It's a good movie but not like the first movie. And all this movie is is side story for the third movie.

Sam Hall 07-07-2006 09:27 PM

Tons of people were seeing it at the theater here in Lee's Summit. We had a huge 7 o'clock round. It goes to show that audiences enjoy the movies that critics don't like.

Amen to that, I will usally go to the ones the critics don't like. And more than times than not I am usally glad I did not listen to their drivel.

Deberg_1990 07-07-2006 09:35 PM

Ill go see it because i loved the first one, but did this thing really need to be 2 hours and 40 minutes long?? Geeesh.............Typical Jerry Bruckheimer ego driven project...

I just got home from watching it. I could not possibly agree more.

Frazod 07-07-2006 10:47 PM

I had been kicking around the idea of seeing this over the weekend, but I think now I'll hold out for the DVD. Superman was dissappointing enough.

DaKCMan AP 07-08-2006 12:18 AM

Good. But too long and not as good as the first one. Not great, not bad, just good.

Valiant 07-08-2006 12:48 AM

Just got back...

This movie was a huge letdown compared to the first one...

possible Spoiler alert below... quit reading

The fact they are trying to force a love triangle between sparrow and elizabeth and putting will on the outside is BS..

The movie is way to long for the amount of stuff that does not happen and then the shit that does happen is just filler...

That they brought back the lead villian at the end to be their saviour from the first movie...

The movie did not have any plot what-so-ever, It is like they made the movie up as they went along...

Defiantly a huge letdown from the first movie...

Tribal Warfare 07-08-2006 02:40 AM

It's a Disney film and the sequel to one of the 25 highest-grossing films of all time. What were you expecting?

It was no surprise. We had it in four auditoriums for the midnight showing, and they all sold out.

You can count me in that group as well. There was a whole thread abour Superman Returns floating around last week on here. Most voiced their concerns in there.

KC Jones 07-08-2006 09:54 AM

gee - a highly hyped moving drawing big audiences on opening weekend? All that means is that people are excited to see it. That doesn't mean the movie is any good.

The movie was kinda long, but I liked it, I usually like Depp's acting. It was worth paying $8.50 and fighting the crowd.

Don't listen to them, at least go judge for yourself. Superman Returns was fantastic... you really have to be paying attention though. It was definitely worth seeing on the big screen, simply because the special effects are incredible, that's not going to translate as well to DVD.

Unless you happen to have an IMAX theater in your backyard.

Hammock Parties 07-08-2006 11:36 PM

It's not as good as people are saying, but it was pretty good. I'd rank it just below the original.

I thought the beginning was a bit convoluted. I didn't quite understand what was going on.

The squid was badass, though. Please hollywood...more giant squid.

A movie without a coherent plot, and just filler scenes until the next movie makes it bad... Special effects only take a movie so far, after that there needs to be substance... This is what seperates great movies like the original'black pearl' to 'dead mans chest'...

But it had a giant Squid???

KC Jones 07-09-2006 07:09 AM

I enjojyed it. Valiant is right, it doesn't stand on it's own. Nothing is really resolved in this one, but it's still a fun movie to watch.

Rausch 07-09-2006 07:16 AM

First film I've looked at for a while and thought "He fought a giant ****ing spider. He did, didn't he?"

yeti 07-09-2006 07:40 AM

the movie was half an hour too long with to many "intense" action scenes to take up time. It is like they were trying to make some epic movie with all the action. the ending pissed me off.

YOu could say the same thing about the classic "Empire Strikes Back" then. The best film in all of Star Wars.

That film has been ripped off so many times its getting pathetic. These days every film trilogy wants to follow the Empire pattern: Multiple story threads...characters breaking off in to seperate storylines. Cliffhanger ending. I hear Deads Man Chest even ripped off the Solo/Skywalker/Leia love triangle.

Moooo 07-09-2006 01:24 PM

I'm sure its no Citizen Kane...

Moooo, who doesn't watch movies about pirates

Hammock Parties 07-09-2006 01:25 PM

So...in the third one, they're going to sail to the end's of the earth.

Does that include...Asia?

If so...will we see pirates fighting ninjas?

Sure it’s nothing more than a pre-quil for the 3rd and last movie,(acording to the movie mag I read today) but what the hell.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

Ok, I have 2 questions about this film:
Firstly:
If Will lifted the curse in the first movie by letting his blood spill into the chest containing the Aztec gold, how come the monkey still can't die?

Secondly:
Wtf? Captain Barbossa was killed (or we are to assume he was) in the sword fight with Capt Jack at the end of the first movie.
His last line was "I feel cold" then flopped over on his side after being shot.
So how does the voodoo chick manage to have him come out in the last scene alive and well?

After the credits of the first movie, there is a short scene that shows the monkey returning to the treasure, taking a piece of gold and becoming undead again.

I think you probably have the answer to this in the phrase "voodoo chick" :D.

Simplex3 07-10-2006 10:38 AM

They would really, really have to try in order to make this movie suck any more.

1. Don't be fooled, it's a 3 hour preview for the next movie.

2. Everything in it was a reach. Nothing flowed from the first movie. Nothing flowed IN this movie.

3. It's like once they got set up for a given shot they just couldn't let it go. Nearly every scene was about 2x too long and many shouldn't have been in there at all.

el borracho 07-12-2006 03:17 PM

Just saw it and thought it was brilliant! I can't wait for the third!

greg63 07-16-2006 05:23 PM

Great special effects; loved it!

GMitch 07-16-2006 06:14 PM

Just got back. Loved the first movie, this one was ok. They should have been honest and called this one "The Sequel, Part I". Awesome special effects though. Probably worth watching just for the special effects and some of the fight scenes. Hopefully the third one will be more like the first.

We were out on Hollywood Blvd. last Saturday. It's playing at the E lCapitan (theater owned by Disney, they put on a live stage show before the film)
We were walking down the street and there were all these people in pirate costumes everywhere... walking down the sidewalk, shopping, eating in the cafe's, etc.
We thought they were the live show actors.
Well, we get to the theater, there's a line about 300 yds.long down the side, and most o fthe people in line were dressed up as friggin' pirates! Some just had jolly roger hats on, but there were some really decked out.

Like it was friggin' Rocky Horror. Or GoChiefs at the premier of Star Wars Episode 1.

Demonpenz 07-16-2006 07:21 PM
