Who has still been collecting state quarters?

I just discovered one of those books you can buy to collect all the quarters. I had the 1999 series filled and Massachusetts and Vermont, or something like that. Completely forgot about my collection.

How many of you have started at the beginning of the series and have kept going?

Calcountry 08-21-2006 02:48 PM

I have a roll of each of the first four, being a cashier and all. After that it got boring.

ChiTown 08-21-2006 03:36 PM

MY F-I-L collect them and keeps them for the grandkids. We're always on the lookout for the quarters he needs.

big nasty kcnut 08-21-2006 03:40 PM

I only collect states i lived in i got kansas texas and looking for washington.

cdcox 08-21-2006 03:53 PM

I have a book for each of the two mints going. I get them through normal circulation.

I was hoarding the state quarters for several years. Every time I got one in change I would save it. It drove my wife crazy, because she saw it as money that was just sitting there doing nothing. This spring I cashed all the extras in for one of these:

http://www.willygoat.com/imagescatalog/Brinkmann/8.jpg

When I considered whether I would rather have a really nice smoker or a bunch of duplicate quarters, the decision was pretty easy.

I had a great thread going on the state quarters, but it's evidently been destroyed in the great database purge. I was dying to slap you with a REPOST on such a lame topic.

PastorMikH 08-21-2006 03:56 PM

I have - at least the Denver mint. I have all that are out so far. Don't see ANY Philly mints out here though - my last Philly mint is Illinois in '03.

Anyone back east having the same problem with Denver mint but has plenty of Philly mint, I'd be up for some trading.

cdcox 08-21-2006 04:00 PM

Pastor-

I get about 2 Philli mints for every Denver mint. My Philli book is usually about 2 states ahead of my Denver book. I notice when I go to KC it is almost all Denver mints. I could have helped you before I cashed in for the smoker.

I guess I'll have to send some neg rep to SNR for starting this thread too late then.

:)

Rausch 08-21-2006 04:03 PM

I have to admit, I do find quarter collecting arousing...

KChiefsQT 08-21-2006 04:57 PM

My Nana (great grandma) buys me a roll everytime a new state comes out. When I'm 93, I guess I will find quarter collecting as appealing as she does.

Zebedee DuBois 08-21-2006 05:44 PM

I still have some all silver (pre 1964) dimes and quarters somewhere.

When I was a paperboy for the DM Register, I took in a lot of silver coins which my dad would buy from me. When the Hunt brothers tried to corner the silver market, my dad cashed in about $50 face value silver coins to the local hardware store for a color TV, a full upright freezer, and a washer and dryer.

Chief Pote 08-21-2006 07:25 PM

Me and my quarters get freaky. I can't find the latest Denver mint quarters in 2005 and 2006. Doesn't that figure. :banghead:

Damn Shannahan, I know he's behind this atrocity. :cuss:

whoman69 08-21-2006 08:32 PM

I have been collecting but its difficult because I never carry any money. I don't worry about which mint it came from.

Can you find the same years in Philly mint? I am sure that a trip to the car wash will turn up all of those in Denver mint and would be glad to look and send them to you for Philly mint of the same.

That's cool. Grammys and great grammys make the world go round.

I dont collect them but my Grandma does. She doesn't get out much so I'll save up about 5 different ones, and then give them to her.

My favorite is Indiana. How can you beat an Indy car on a coin!?!

Moooo

Bugeater 08-21-2006 09:13 PM

I've been doing it all along, I try to get about a dozen or so of each state. I really don't know why.

TinyEvel 08-22-2006 01:57 AM

My mom gave our kids one of those slot maps, with about ten of the quarters already in it.

That was three years ago, I still can't find the thing.....

TinyEvel 08-22-2006 01:58 AM

By the way, this thread gets my vote for "Random thread of the month"

007 08-22-2006 02:01 AM

I have them all so far. GEtting bored with it though.

TinyEvel 08-22-2006 02:04 AM

Not a very exciting pasttime, what's you expect?

I can find the Philly mint coins all day. I'll gladly trade. Let me know what you need and I'll find them. :thumb:

Cool! I'll have to look when I get back home, but I know I don't have any from '03 on and I am missing 2 from one of the earlier years (I'm thinking '02 but I'm not sure without looking.

What Denver mints do you need?

Bugeater 08-06-2009 11:33 PM

OK, I was just emptying change out of my pockets and noticed a state quarter that I hadn't seen before, which is odd because the program was supposed to end last year. Upon closer inspection, I see it's goddamned Guam.

WHAT THE ****? Guam? Seriously? Did I miss where it became a US state?

That's after the Japanese companies started selling jet-packs. I take mine to work every morning.

007 08-06-2009 11:37 PM

They comin' to Amercia!!! TODAY!!!

Crush 08-06-2009 11:40 PM

I collect foreign currency.

Countries include Canada, Mexico, U.K., China, Australia. Some bills, but mostly coins.

Bugeater 08-06-2009 11:50 PM

I'm anxiously awaiting the series of US state quarters of all of the Canadian provinces.

Crush 08-06-2009 11:52 PM

I hear that they will have the faint smell and taste of maple syrup.

I'm like you. Good start. Weak finish.

RustShack 08-07-2009 12:44 AM

I have TWO full books :)

RealSNR 08-07-2009 12:46 AM

I completely forgot about this thread. Similar to my quarter collection.

Now when I get a shiney new quarter, I don't even turn it over and wonder, "Oooo... perhaps this is a brand new one!" I guess that's what happens when you make these things last 10 friggin years just to collect 50 easy-to-find coins. It's not really much of a collection. It's kind of lame, actually.

cdcox 08-07-2009 01:19 AM

I filled my Phil Mint book and have like 3 blanks in my Denver mint book. Totally hacked me off when I saw DC, since there wasn't a slot for it in my books.

big nasty kcnut 08-07-2009 02:32 AM

They also have ****ing puerto rico. That not a state.

old_geezer 08-07-2009 06:31 AM

I bought the US mint sets for 10 years so I have all of the state quarters in mint condition. I have absolutely no interest in Guam, Puerto Rico or any other country however. They're not real valuable but I think they make an interesting collection.

blaise 08-07-2009 07:14 AM

I have almost a complete book now, the problem is that the book I have didn't include a space for Puerto Rico or D.C. and I have coins for them now.

jidar 08-07-2009 07:19 AM

No way. I only collect cool things. Like comics, board games, and Dungeons and Dragons manuals.

Us too. We collected two books work and had them filled when I spotted a shiny new quarter I hadn't seen. It was either PR or DC, can't remember which but my first response was WTF? because my books don't handle them.

ChiTown 08-07-2009 07:45 AM

My F.I.L. has completed a book for each of his 6 Grandchildren. It's been his Labor of Love. Pretty Cool.

I can at least make an argument for 2 of the 3 but D & D is a gay-ron-TEED poon deterrent...

A ****ing Yellowstone quarter? Are you kidding me?

Yeah we collected the states for the kids and grandkids. Right at the end they announced they would be doing them for territories/etc. We said enough of that crap.

Bugeater 10-29-2010 09:50 AM

Apparently this is old news, nothing to see here.

Quote:

Beginning in 2010, the United States Mint will issue 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The five quarters to be released in 2010 will honor Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.

BigChiefFan 10-29-2010 09:53 AM

I like the presidential coins better and even then without the silver content, it doesn't do much for me.

Frazod 10-29-2010 10:00 AM

Seems like my wife's grandmother gave us a starter set of these years ago, but we ended up using them for laundry before we moved to the suburbs.

Phobia 10-29-2010 10:02 AM

I amass a large quantity of them and then when the cashier asks for like $20.78 I hand her a $20, 3 quarters and three pennies. Sometimes I hand her a nickel in lieu of the three pennies, like when I only have two pennies or something like that.

Anybody get into silver or gold coins?

Rausch 10-29-2010 11:29 AM

The good news is that if you get all 50 they'll never be worth less than $13...

DMAC 10-29-2010 12:04 PM

The full folder of all of the first round is....in my garage.

It was given to me. I'll save it for when I care.

Fairplay 10-29-2010 01:28 PM

I have all the state quarters both Denver and Philly.

I collected about the first 10 of the President coins.

Buck 10-29-2010 01:35 PM

I wish they would make some with Norv's face on the back, so every time AJ Smith sees a quarter he could be reminded that it was "Time for Change."
