Should Chiefs trade for Billy Volek?

Kevin Harlan is saying Trent might not come back at all and if so maybe 4-6 weeks.

Billy Volek has the most passing yards in NFL history for his first 10 starts, but is on the outs with Jeff Fisher who prefers to sign drunkard Kerry Collins off the street.

Damon Huard is not going to cut it.

Anybody like it?

Bob Dole 09-11-2006 07:49 AM

What's with all the ****ing Volek love? The guy is 3rd string on his current team and there are at least 3 Volek threads on here.

banyon 09-11-2006 07:52 AM

ack. probably shoulda gone to page 2.

Eleazar 09-11-2006 08:45 AM

He can't even beat Kerry Collins out for the job. No thanks.

The Bad Guy 09-11-2006 08:49 AM

I'd take him.

He's a talented guy, who for some reason is on the outs with Fisher.

When your alternative is Damon Huard, you certainly look into it.

Archie Bunker 09-11-2006 08:51 AM

If Trent is out for 4-6 weeks it might be time to go ahead and prepare for next season. Let Huard start till Croyle is ready. No need to waste a draft pick when a rebuilding project is around the corner.

I'm as concerned as anyone, but it doesn't matter who on your team sustains a 4-6 week injury, you don't scrap the season and give up in week 1.

Does it really matter? What's the point, this season is over and "rebuilding" phase is in process. We won't see the playoffs for the next 3 years - at least.

True, but the problem isn't the qb (although Huard is not very good), it's the phuggin miserable-assed OT play.

No thanks on Volek.

Let's get Brad Smith.

Gunther does.

Since he's getting playing time with the Jets, that's probably unlikely.

Then let's sign Chase Daniel.

HemiEd 09-11-2006 09:16 AM

I am not buying the 4-6 weeks, I am pretty confident he will be back after the bye and may even play against the Broncos. Of course, that is just my opinion with no facts, other than what the Chiefs website has to say about it.

We can sort of afford an 0-2 start since 3 of the 4 teams in the AFC West will be 0-1 after week 1.

I don't see him playing next week but we will be fine.

I haven't given up. I just think that Huard or Croyle could give results similar to Volek without giving up a pick if given the time to prepare and get the starting reps in practice. Now if the Titans just want Volek off the roster and are willing to take a 6th or 7th I am fine with that. The Chiefs have already traded away a 4th for Bennett and have alot of holes to fill in the next few years.

Chan93lx50 09-11-2006 09:26 AM

Jeff George

Halfcan 09-11-2006 09:26 AM

If we did get him, I wouldn't mind.

eazyb81 09-11-2006 09:32 AM

The last thing this team needs to do is trade more draft picks. We should be building for 2-3 years from now, and we will need all the draft picks we can get our hands on.

If we finish with a bad record, there will be plenty of QBs available in the 1st round that are better than Volek (Brady Quinn anyone?)

ct 09-11-2006 09:40 AM

We've already invested a 3rd in our QBOTF. While I'm nervous at the thought of Brodie's 1st start coming at Denver, I just do not see what Huard provides us, even in a short term role. Go with Brodie!!

Sure, if you want Croyle to be killed.

Ahhh, he's a young buck. Throw him in there!!

jiveturkey 09-11-2006 10:06 AM

We'll see Croyle soon enough. Nobody is going to survive behind that line for long.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Printers at some point this year.

Damn, too bad we missed out on the chance to trade draft picks to get on that Volek train.
