My left hand quit working

It was that way when I woke up this morning. I have feeling in my hand and can move my fingers. I must have had a mild stroke during the night. i can feel my arm but it is like it belongs to someone else. It won't do what I tell it. I am typing this one fingered. This is shitty.

Hootie 11-17-2006 08:15 PM

Masterbation is a killer !!!

Seriously though -- don't play with that and ignore it... Get your arse to the doctor pronto !!!! Could be something harmless, but don't wait to seek medical attention...

Better safe than sorry dude !!

You need to go to the ER right now, Skip.

Easy 6 11-17-2006 08:19 PM

A) Your arm isnt working.

B) Think you might have had a stroke.

C) Why are you not at the nearest hospital???

chief52 11-17-2006 08:20 PM

If you are serious, Skip, you better get to a DR. asap. Quick medical attention can minimize harm if there is a problem...and if not, you will sleep a lot better. Sounds like a classic symptom of a problem though...

You need to go to the Emergency Room now!

Hammock Parties 11-17-2006 08:20 PM

The beginning of the end. Your penis quit working years ago I bet. This is the second body part.

chagrin 11-17-2006 08:21 PM

Dude, I don't know if you are just that kind of guy, but having even a "mild stroke" should cause you to get checked out and not yacking about it here on Chiefs Planet.

FAX 11-17-2006 08:22 PM

Get yourself to the ER immediately, Mr. Skip Towne.

Do not pass Go.

WTF is wrong with you?????? GO TO A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!

chief52 11-17-2006 08:26 PM

Dude, you gotta go check it out. I know a guy who had a "mild" heart attack. He waited a couple of days before going to the doctor. Doctor told him if he would have come in right when he felt it they could have greatly reduced the long term damage to his heart. He screwed up and knows it now.

You need to get it checked out now!

Those bastards charge $14,000 to tell you they can't help you. I'm hoping it is a pinched nerve. If it isn't better in the morning I'll go.

Skip, if you have insurance, it's not going to be 14K. You need to think about your own safety here....it's just money.

Well, it's up to you, Mr. Skip Towne. But, Mr. chief52 is right. If it is something, the longer you wait, the more damage that can occur. Permanent damage. And, if it isn't anything, it won't cost you 14k or anywhere close to that amount.

Besides, they probably have cute nurses and they might give you some good drugs.

Consider reconsidering.

Well, upon reading that more, it very well could also be a pinched nerve. I know that back in 2003, I had serious numbness in my left shoulder all the way down my arm, pain, etc. After having it basically massaged out, it was fine. Of course, I am not Skip's age, heh.
Come on dude, they won't charge you 14k to have a look, geesh!

Years ago I had an 18 year old cousin who was in high school... He was in perfect shape... Played football, basketball, and ran track... Didn't smoke or do drugs at all...

One day at school his arm and neck became sore, then he complained his chest was heavy... He didn't say anything to anyone for 2 days...

When he did tell someone on the third day --- we were at his funeral 4 days later...

You don't play a game with life... You'll never win !!! Something so mild to start with could have been prevented...

Screw ChiefsPlanet for the night --- get to the hospital NOW !!!!!!

My guess is you have a big blob of fat somewhere in your leg and a little piece broke off last night and gave you a little stroke. The whole thing could come lose at any time and that will be the end of Skip Towne. Go to hospital.

POND_OF_RED 11-17-2006 09:15 PM

You need to see a Dr. Alot of minor problems like this can turn into bigger ones later if untreated. Sounds like some kind of nervous system problem. Don't be stubborn and go see a Dr.

Here's a test for you Skip... Go find something in your house that weighs at least 5 pounds... Pick it up using JUST your fingers --- not the whole hand... See if you can hold it for 15 seconds at the most...

BTW, Skip. Get your ass to a doctor. You're right that your stroke (if that's what it was) will heal or not. That being said, you could be in for worse ones (or complications) in the future that might be preventable if you get some medical assistance. I'm not saying hit the ER, but I'd definitely recommend a visit to the doctor in the near future (like soon). Best of luck to you!

Skip, the symptoms you are describing could be a couple of things. Several of such things will go away if you tough it out. However, if you think you have had a mild stroke, without medical attention - and medical attention rather soon, you WILL have more. Not a maybe, WILL. And WHEN it happens again (again not if WHEN) it will be more severe. Ignore it, and you could end up dead or worse - laying in a nursing home unable to walk, eat, drink, speak, etc.

You do what you want. If it were me, I'd have been calling doctors trying to get in this morning if not, I'd have went to ER. Yeah, it'd be a bill I have to pay, but I'd be around to pay it.

Mr. Skip Towne may be many things, but stupid is not one of them. There has to be a reason why he is electing not to have this checked out.

1. He has an overwhelming fear of doctors.
2. He believes that this thread will go to 100 posts as long as he refuses treatment.
3. The stroke has already affected his judgement.
4. He has no clean underwear.

maybe you guys can help me out with this...

lately I've had a bit of a 'heavy' chest as well, and a bit of neck pain that flashes in and out, as well as some shortness of breath...but it only is like that if I think about it...if my mind is off of it then I don't feel anything.

I think it has something to do with anxiety, but I am going to get it checked out sometime within the next few days.

Do you guys think I'm just worrying about it so it's affecting my mind set or do you think there is something seriously wrong? My family has absolutely no history of heart disease or cancer, etc...

Damon Huard disease.

bigfoot 11-17-2006 10:39 PM

Prompt medical attention is key with stroke. I had an uncle who said similar to what you just did, "I felt like someone else's arm was in bed with me", and he'd had a stroke. There is a fairly substantial risk of death in the first few days afterwards without proper treatment--get to a Dr, Don't wait for the socialization of medicine!

KC Jones 11-17-2006 10:48 PM

If you can get care within the first 3 hours, they can give you an anticoagulant that will break down the clot and prevent a lot of damage. It's also important to make sure the stroke wasn't caused by part of a larger clot that broke off ... because it could be that the rest of that big clot is about to move up to the brain and kill you. Another important reason to get medical care immediately is they can test the severity of the stroke and based on how well you recover in 24 hours guesstimate a lot about how much damage there was, your prognosis, and how aggressive they need to be in therapy.

but go ahead and stay home Skip, 'cause them gosh danged doctorin fools is just out ta get ya monay'.
