-   -   Memo to King Carl: Give Corey Dillon a BLANK CHECK (https://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=15275)

KC Paul 01-20-2001 09:42 AM

Needless to say by the title of this post, I am a HUGE Corey Dillon guy. Can you IMAGINE what that guy could do running behing OUR offensive line?? It would be RIDICULOUS! Dude would damn near get off EVERY GAME.

Yeah, I realize that the Chiefs are in deep "cap" ****, but Carl needs to figure out a way to get that guy into Chiefs gear. A good way to start making room for Dillon is by cutting Chester McOBESITY, Dan "I suck ASSSSSSS" Williams and Carlton "Easy Money" Gray. Speaking of Gray, he had the best gig in the NFL last year. He barely played, yet he still got to collect those FAT paychecks. Gotta hand it to him....if it feels good, DO IT.

I GUARANTEE you fellow ChiefFans that Elvis will allow his contract to be VERY "cap friendly" if he was promised that Dillon would be a Chief NO MATTER WHAT. If anybody knows that we need a stud RB it's Dick Vermeil, and he has a few to choose from besides Dillon. Charlie Garner is out there, Dorsey Levens MIGHT be out there soon, and Robert Smith and Ricky Watters would be good backup plans in case Dillon just was way out of our price range. I personally am not real high on any of the RBs in this year's draft, and if they whack McOFFSIDESton and FATASS Williams they have a VERY DT rich draft this year to choose from.

Thoughts???

Releasing McGlockton and Williams puts us even deeper in cap ****.

Dillonless, and expecting to remain so.

Here is the problem. Cutting Chester will cost us over 7 mil against the cap next year, and Williams will cost us some 4 mil plus against the cap. Grey will be gone, there is no doubt in my mind about that, he gets paid less then both of those two and is useless. It would not surprise me if we found a way to cut Williams, or maybe put him on the unable to perform list because of his foot, it would be a nice return for that lazy bum. Chester we might have to wait one more year. I think a line of Hicks, Clemons, Browning and a fearful for his job Chester could be a really scary thing to other offenses.

As for the other running backs, many here have displayed interest in picking up Garner, he should be fairly cheap (by comparison) and he can run in between the tackles and has good hands out of the backfield.

Gaz 01-20-2001 10:51 AM

In FA, I like Garner, Barber and Watters, in that order.

too deep in cap **** to afford Dillon.

*yawn* I see the Dillgasms are back.

We can't aford Dillon gang. It's that simple. We can't cut Williams and Glock. That'd cost $11mil. I don't know about Gray but I doubt we can cut him. We better hope Hasty comes back and he'll run around $6mill. If we get a new RB it'll be either a draftee or a 2nd tier FA.

Enjoy the Dillgasms if you like, but it's an empty exercise.

morphius 01-20-2001 11:54 AM

ck - This is a new guy on the BB, so he has not been apart of the previous discussions that we have went through about this.

ck_IN 01-20-2001 12:04 PM

Wasn't picking on him Morph. Just pointing out the math. Dillon's $ > than our budget.

Which makes it an empty Dillgasm.

You know what's gonna happen. The Bungles will pay a ridiculous amount of money to keep Dillon. And he'll take it. He'll go to the highest bidder and we can't afford him. And if that high bidder turns out to be the Bungles, Dillon will still be miserable. But well compensated.

Cormac 01-20-2001 12:08 PM

In FA I like Garner who I think is by far the best option. He could be just like Marshall Faulk in Vermeil's and Saunders' offense. How valuable would that be? His knock is his size. A distant second is Michael Pittman who has speed to burn. But he's injury prone so he'd have to be cheap. The rest you can keep. Dillon is too costly. Robert Smith is too expensive for his age etc......

HC_Chief 01-22-2001 10:08 AM

Dillon $ = Shields $ (approximately)

I will take a PB calibre RB over a PB calibre RG any day.

Barber and Watters - doesn't she host 'The View?'

I say we go with Dan Morgan 1st pic, find a way to go with Travis Henry with a second pic, this will be hard ,thank you Tags!!! If CP can pull this off....we will be OK for a few years...everthing else will fall in line!

Gaz 01-22-2001 10:22 AM

ROYC75-

It will definitely be an "either_or" situation. There is no way we could get both, unfortunately.

gaz
casts his vote for Morgan over Henry.

Cormac 01-22-2001 10:25 AM

LOL @ JC

ROYC75 01-22-2001 10:32 AM

Gaz

CP will have to do the wheel'n and deal'n to do so,since we have no 2nd pic.But hey,I didn't think I would see DV here and the stooges gone either. Who knows what CP might do for his BUDDY!

He wants to succeed for the reputation of both of them! You never know,DV says tis is not no rebuilding process!

willing to accept a miracle or two.

HC_Chief 01-22-2001 11:07 AM

ROY - gaz is correct: it will definitely be an 'either-or' scenario. (Personally, I don't think it'll be that tough... San Fran is going to snatch Morgan up with the #9 pick anyway)
