Glavine signs 1 year, 10.5 Million dollar contract

Good lord doesnt this seem rediculously high for someone that will play for only 1 more season? At the most 2 but the guy is very old and throws around 80mph. I dont care if he's a lefty this is just a bad investment IMO. But I guess they have the $$$ to blow so whatever.

Halfcan 12-02-2006 12:55 AM

Baseball is a joke

Halfcan 12-02-2006 12:56 AM

Guys with loseing records and ERA's over 5.9 are getting paid huge amounts of money.

milkman 12-02-2006 01:00 AM

Who is "they"?

I don't follow baseball that closely, but it seems to me that Glavine had a good season, winning with guile and smarts.

His skills aren't likely to decline anymore than they have already in the next couple of years.

Halfcan 12-02-2006 01:05 AM

Mets

kcxiv 12-02-2006 02:03 AM

Glavine is still solid can still win 15plus games and have a ERA under 4.

Hes still better than anything the Royals have...

noa 12-02-2006 02:45 AM

Wait and see what kind of deal Barry Zito gets.

I think I saw a stat where the Mets won 24 of the 32 games he started, so that seems like a pretty good signing for them.

Ultra Peanut 12-02-2006 09:13 AM

Well, at least he's not Gary Matthews Jr.

Sure-Oz 12-02-2006 09:34 AM

Glavine was pretty solid last year. NYM are going for a WS"s they can def. make it again next year and will need pitching. Makes me wonder what would've happend if Pedro didnt get hurt.

Oh Well....

Cards lost some key players at the wrong time in the past. Depth is key.

siberian khatru 12-02-2006 09:46 AM

That's not a bad contract at all. Especially since it's only one year.

That's not a bad investment. Bad investments are when you sign 32-year-old players to 4- and 5-year guaranteed contracts.

HE GETS ON BASE A LOT!!!!!

The Bad Guy 12-02-2006 09:59 AM

10.5 million for a guy who is a HOF pitcher?

Randy Wolf just got 8 million from the Dodgers. I'd take Tom Glavine every day of the week.

Plus, he's a big club house guy. If Zito does become a Met, having Tom Glavine around to become another tutor type player can never hurt.

CoMoChief 12-02-2006 11:10 AM

I still wouldnt pay him. Even if I had the money.

Well, look in your subject line. it's a 1 year contract.

Second, I heard him on the radio say he wanted to pitch for 2 or 3 more years.

He won as many games this year as Schilling ($13 million) and Mussina ($19 million). His ERA is similar to Zito ($7.9 million), Lowe ($9.5 million).

This is what a big market team pays for a front of the rotation guy.

Heh, I'm quoting myself for the first time...Barry Zito just signed a 7 year $126 million contract with the SF Giants. That's an odd choice cause the Giants don't seem too competitive, but they showed him the $$$

Frazod 12-28-2006 11:43 AM

In the ridiculous world of these crazed salaries, if Jason Marquis - who sucked so utterly and completely last year that LaRussa didn't let him throw so much as a single pitch during the entire playoffs - is worth $7 million a year (gotta love the Cubs ROFL ) then Glavine is certainly worth $10.5 million.

vckcchiefs04 12-28-2006 12:00 PM

Glavine will win 15 to 20 games, and have an ERA around 2.50 or 3.00. Plus he will play gold glove defense for a pitcher, and he can handle the bat pretty well. Not a clubhouse cancer, and does not get hurt on a regular basis (like Pedro). Glavine is also nails in the postseason. Hats off to the Mets, way to take care of the ace of the staff.

Halfcan 12-28-2006 12:02 PM

The Rocket only played half a year for that much.

South Dakotan 12-28-2006 12:07 PM

Zito signs with the Giants for 7 years, $126 million!
