DTV sucks and my HD-DVR/receiver...

About 2-3 weeks ago we called and ordered an HD-DVR/receiver. They sent us the wrong one; they sent us the regular DVR. We sent it back, called and got put on a list to get the HD one...

We called them tonight after a week later. We found out we were NOT put on the list. So we have to wait another ****ing 2-3 weeks for the damn thing. We're thinking about cancelling. We said send us one now, we already waited 3 weeks for one. They said they would be bumping someone down the list. WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN BUMPED DOWN THE LIST, NOW THIS IS BUMP #2!!! Is there a way we can get one sent out right away? We've already served our time, this is not right. It's not good customer service. Is there anyone above the supervisor you can talk to? It's a bunch of shit, we are seriously thinking about cancelling.

Is Dish Network better?

wutamess 12-14-2006 11:08 PM

No Dish isn't better.
Stop yer bitchin and sack up.
You'll get it in 3 weeks.

I'm scheduled for the 27th to receive mine.
Phob thinks they tend to suck... I'll be happy to get my locals in HD. SB party over my house this year probably.

December 27?

And no I won't stop bitchin', it's a bunch of shit.

I think DISH is better.

I just got their dual tuner HD DVR, the vip622. Fantastic unit. I placed the call on a Friday to get the new equipment, and the installation guy was available the following Tuesday. There are no equipment shortages, and plenty of HD channels, including many local markets.

Iowanian 12-15-2006 09:04 AM

My dish-notwork hasn't in 4 days. I'm not happy at all. The Tonguechewer the skiptowne of Iowania is sending is supposed to come today....sometime.

After 40 minutes on the phone, they had the nerve to suggest they were going to bill me a minimum of $50.....I indicated strongly that this wasn't acceptable, when I pay $1k/year for TV, rent their effing equipment, and this is about the 3rd time since June its been down.

I'm not happy at all with Dish notwork. At least they're trying to hose me out of the $150 sign up rebate I was promised and filled out the paperwork to recieve.

Oh, and the whole "pay $199 for HD equip" isn't working for me either.

Hootie 12-15-2006 09:10 AM

I want to see Iowanian naked!

Iowanian 12-15-2006 09:12 AM

Thats a common thought, I'm sure.

Reerun_KC 12-15-2006 09:14 AM

wouldnt drop DTV for anything.. Never had a problem. Had to wait a couple of times for things, but I wouldnt go to dish or cable, even if you had my nuts in a vice...

I love the sunday ticket and Espn full court. Dish Network is for old people. Cable is for whiners! (No NFL Network)

Bugeater 12-15-2006 09:15 AM

Good luck with that. I'm still going 'round and 'round with them over about $100 worth of services they billed me for that I didn't want from over 5 yrs ago. I've never been treated as shitty by any other company in my life.

I agree. I've had DirecTV since about 1995 and never had an issue with it. I'm upgrading to HD on the 23rd and I hope that doesn't change the quality of service.

I havent upgraded to HD yet, but have been with them since 1996... not one problem

OnTheWarpath15 12-15-2006 09:52 AM

I've been a very satisfied DTV customer for 10 years now......

I've had the new HD-DVR for about three months now with no problems.

I don't care for the menus and such, compared to my old TIVO unit, but I'm slowly adapting.

And it's nice not to need an OTA antenna to watch locals in HD.

BigRedChief 12-15-2006 09:58 AM

I may not have the NFL Network because I'm a TW customer but my HD-DVR works great and Ive had one outage for a couple of hours in 5 years of service.

FAX 12-15-2006 10:09 AM

This is all very confusing. I want to get a dish installed on my building, but I don't know which way to go.

Sounds like satellite service is an orbiting crap game.

FAX

wutamess 12-15-2006 10:25 AM

Actually,

I think everyone forgot to mention the funky format the Dish Network has. You can't flip through channels. You have to use the guide to go to your channel. That's right, you can't catch that Don Lepre how to invest infomercial because it's not listed on the guide. The damn remote is like a super scientific calculator.

I'm pretty savy when it comes to electronics & that remote is the most confusing thing I've ever had to electronically navigate. I usually never say never but in this case... I'd NEVER switch to Dish Network.

My mother got Dish Network 2 weeks ago and she hates it as she's a novice when it comes to electronics and has a hard time with the remote herself. She said she couldn't get DTV ebcause the sat man said that he couldn't get it to her for some reason.

Anyhow, FAX. If you've never listened to me before, listen to me now. DO NOT GET DISH NETWORK WHATEVER YOU DO. AS mcuh as I hate cable, I'd go the cabel route before I go Dish Network.

Another plus is DTV's CS is REALLY GREAT. I've never had a problem with them nor their service. Sinec I'm a 5-star customer, I always get their deals they're offering the public for free or little cost @ all.

Actually my Direct TV Tivo works so well, that the remote numbers and stuff has wore out from 3 years of constant usage..

My Tivo is awesome. The wife and kids have that thing loaded up with stuff recording... They love it.!

Baby Lee 12-15-2006 10:47 AM

I've had nothing but satisfaction with my Dishnetwork HD-DVR [the ViP622 mentioned above].
That is, after I got rid of all the substandard legacy cabling and splitters in my 'system' [R-6, crimped connections, and 2.4GHz splitters only, folks].
It's advertised as 2-tuner, but you can actually record 2 Satellite AND an OTA HD channels at the same time, AND watch something previously recorded.
I simply don't worry about what time anything is on anymore [except the Chiefs game, but that's because it's not always broadcast, so I gotta go to the pub]. Just click and see what's waiting for me to watch.
30 hours of HD, some 400 hours of SD, or a mix thereof.

I can flip through channels easily. Been with Dish since the nineties and never had a problem.

Don't know what your talking about. There are 4 ways to channel surf, the channel up.down buttons, push the 'forward button' and transparent channel listing comes up and you can use the channel up/down button to see what programs are on other channels without changing channels until you press enter, the program guide [that can be programmed to let you still see the active channel], and the 'Dish 500' channel that shows the feed for nine channels at a time.

Iowanian 12-15-2006 11:11 AM

Apparently this crap was half of my problem, except that I don't have the HD yet....installed 6 months ago, and its got "small cable" run and there were at least 3 splitters, one of which must have been bad.....for 2 TVs, 30' apart.

pffffffffft.

Must just be my moms model.
I guess it's new.
I saw the remote and there are no channel flipping buttons. She either has to use guide or manually press the number of the channel she wants.

The thing really sucks.
And she mentioned that if one of her T.V.s channels are changed that it might affect the one upstairs, etc. I don't know... maybe she doesn't know what she's talking about. Either way, I'd stay away from it if you have to have a BS in Dish Network to make it work.

Apperantly, there are some graduates here.

Isn't that a bit like saying 'the BMW 540il sucks,' then revealing that you test drove it with a flat tire? ;)

Probably doesn't realize that the up/down buttons that surround the 'select' button operate as channel changers. The ones marked with the 'stop' and 'pause' symbols.
I guess it's undertandable as they aren't expressly denoted, but the first time one pushed the button while watching TV, it'd become obvious.

When I order it from thier salesman, and they deliver it, unload it put it in the garage, and give me the keys with teh bill.....I assume the tires are tank is full of gas, the oil is clean and full, and the air pressure is right.

I shouldn't have to know which muffler bearing and weight of blinker fluid it requires.

Just some lighthearted ribbing [hence the smilie]. But seriously, there is a difference between something sucking because it's an inferior product, and something sucking because something outside it's working parameters is causing it to mess up.
Did the installer put in the 'small cable' [I assume you're talking about R-59] and the 3 splitters, one of which wasn't working?

KC-TBB 12-15-2006 02:31 PM

Dish here, and it works great...no problem flipping through channels or with outages.

Iowanian 12-15-2006 02:34 PM

I'm not an electronics guru....Don't even know what the gibberish that sounds like the Birdflu HIV551.

I had digital cable, installer ran new cable from the garage where the dish was placed..and supposedly through the house(no big deal, full basement, easy access).

I'm assuming the installer suffered from an ID-10-T error.

Phobia 12-15-2006 02:36 PM

I had dish for a year prior to Sept and it was great.

Granted, it wasn't HD but I thought the menus, remote, service, and function was flawless.

btlook1 12-15-2006 05:26 PM

nothing wrong with Dish

I've had Dish Network for probably 7 yrs. Never a problem unless it rains really hard and it may be out for a couple of minutes. I don't have the HD package but have a DVR works great actually thinking about getting a bigger one. Seem's to me that Direct TV is the one that sux but I haven't used it and don't plan to. Good luck!

I'm sure I would've appreciated it more if I'd had to wait weeks on end for it and bitch with CS people. What good is something if it comes really, really easily, right?

The local cable co was just as backed up on HD-DVR units [Moxi] as the satellite cos were back when I was weighing my options last spring. I stayed with the non DVR HD receiver from Dish, then upgraded to the 622 the weekend after I called in June b/c my dish was taken out by the storm.

Donger 12-15-2006 05:53 PM

I do like my latest Dish DVR, the 625. Non-HD, but two tuners. Software and hardware seem quite solid.
