First Taco Hell, now Olive Garden?

Now that's Italian!
Over 250 sick after eating at Indiana Olive Garden
2 hours, 3 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - More than 250 people have reported becoming sick after eating at an Olive Garden restaurant in Indianapolis, Indiana, a county health official said on Friday, a day after an outbreak of E.coli at Taco Bell restaurants was declared over.

The news makes Olive Garden at least the third U.S. restaurant chain this month to be linked to widespread customer illnesses.

Some customers who ate at the Olive Garden restaurant in northeast Indianapolis between December 9 and December 13 have reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases fever, said John Althardt, a spokesman for the Marion County Health Department.

Three of those people have been hospitalized.

Tests of the sick peoples' stool and leftovers they took home from the restaurant will be conducted later today or Monday, Althardt said. He added that the tests would take about 48 hours.

A spokesman for Olive Garden parent Darden Restaurants Inc. was not immediately available for comment.

StcChief 12-15-2006 04:26 PM

Stay away from Chain restaurants.

Saulbadguy 12-15-2006 04:26 PM

That'll learn em. Why would anyone eat there?

Wasn't there already a jizz thing with Olive Garden?

Stewie 12-15-2006 04:36 PM

Didn't hear that. There is a jizz problem here.

They finally today decided to close that resturant down until further notice. I can't imagine they were doing too much business anyway.

"A student at Wheaton North High School is accused in a vulgar case of food tampering. Police say he put his bodily fluid into salad dressing in the school cafeteria.

At Wheaton North High School the mission is to create self-directed students who make sound decisions."

Well, at least he got half of it right.

You know, my instinct is to bust on them, but the last couple of times I went [first times in years], it was pretty d@mn good.
Last x-mas [for my sister's BD, her choice], had the Seafood Portofino. All the ingredients were top notch.
Last June, after the power finally came back on, went to the new one that opened near my home, had the Chianti braised Short Ribs. Course that time, I might've just been so relieved that the AC was back on that anything would've tasted good.

I've never had bad food there, but their commercials make me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty nail.

DaneMcCloud 12-15-2006 04:58 PM

Olive Garden makes sick, regardless of E-Coli. Faux Italian food.

Stewie 12-15-2006 04:58 PM

Macaroni Grill > Olive Garden

By ALOT! I could sit in MG and dip bread in peppered olive oil and drink wine and be totally satisfied.

Yes, it is, but I like them both. In fact, I ate at Olive Garden earlier in the week.

Macaroni Grill's bread ROCKS. :thumb:

good bread, but they never cut it. and my brother doesn't have the patience to calmly and smoothly slice the bread, so he crushes it into breadsticks.

OG used to have great bread, but they have fallen off recently.

Fishpicker 12-15-2006 05:15 PM

Macaroni Grill's wine sucks ass but everything else they serve is pretty damn good.

Olive Garden's wine sucks too of course. The food tastes ok but is very fattening. The alfredo sauce they use is cream cheese thinned down with heavy whipping cream and seasoned with garlic pepper and 2 other cheeses.

Don't get the "house" wine and you'll be fine. I think it's Rossi, right?

Fishpicker 12-15-2006 05:23 PM

actually neither OG's wine nor MG's wine are house wines since it is made offsite. I think Rossi is the name of wine at OG. both OG and MG have some good selections on thier wine list but I cant stand the stuff they try to push on me as soon as I sit down

Bugeater 12-15-2006 05:55 PM

I think I'm going to stop eating altogether. It's too damn dangerous.

Rain Man 12-15-2006 07:39 PM

I wonder how many of the skanks at the school said "This does have a familiar taste to it"?

cdcox 12-16-2006 09:16 AM

Overall, I think chain dining is one of the worst things to happen to food in America.

But, in parts of the country where they don't have a strong Italian community, OG and MG make an acceptable substitute at a reasonable cost. My family prefers OG, but I really think it depends on the particular store more than the chain. Either of those two can be terrible if you go to one that is poorly managed. The upper end wines on the the list ($7 a glass and up) they are decent.

banyon 12-16-2006 04:34 PM

LOL, has anyone else seen the new Taco Bell commercial with the British guy who "assures you that their food is safe"?

His accent was so refined, I thought he was going to host Masterpiece Theatre right there in the Taco Bell dining area.
