What are kc's roads in getting to the playoffs?

Any scenarios?

Carl retires in 2020, after another couple of contract extentions.
Kuharich takes over for another 5 years after that.
Then we hire outside the organization, but as is the Chiefs way, he's a guy that makes us long for the days of Carl.

Fans finally become dienchanted and stop buying tickets.

The Chiefs move to Mexico City, where they are known as the Jefes, of course, and after 5 more years of struggling, they finally win a Lombardi Trophy, which of course will be renamed the Bellichick Trophy by then.

carlos3652 12-23-2006 10:58 PM

Chiefs win vs jags

Denver loses 1
Jets or Bengals lose 2
Pit, Buf, Tenn, and Miami lose 1

Most likely scenario:

Danver has to lose to Cinci, because they will not lose to SF.

Jets lose @ Miami and vs Oakland

Pit loses vs Baltimore or @ Cinci
Buf loses vs Tenn or @ Baltimore
Miami loses @ Indy
Tenn loses vs @ Buf or Baltimore

gotta be a mistake here because I don't think Baltimore still plays all three teams who you say they need to beat. So, "maybe next year" might be the best answer.

You guys should start an official offseason thread before trying to figure out that the chefs aren't making playoffs.

tk13 12-23-2006 11:54 PM

Denver needs to win tomorrow. There are two options here.

1.) Root for the Jets to lose out.

2.) Denver has to take out Cincy tomorrow, then Frank Gore has to run over them in Week 17.

We can obtain tiebreakers over Denver and Jacksonville... we aren't beating Cincy or the Jets though. One of those two teams must lose out, and that's not gonna be the Jets.

Cinci lose at home VS pitt? nope. I'm not depending on another pittsburg game.

Maybe next year we'll get into those damn playoffs.

Denver will be eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday. The Chiefs will be eliminated on Monday :) With this Chiefs win all that has to happen is a Denver loss and Jacksonville win and the Broncos can kiss the post season goodbye.

If Denver wins, we're going to need more teams to lose in the final week of the season than if Cincinnati wins IMO.

Yes, that is true. but if Cincinnati wins, we're going to need the Jets to lose at home against Oakland. The other scenario would take several things to fall into place, but none of them are as unrealistic as Oakland pulling the upset. The worst would be hoping San Fran upsets Denver.. which isn't likely, but Denver's defense has been struggling, Frank Gore could go off, and maybe Cutler would make some mistakes... not likely, but I'd take my chances with that over Oakland winning anything. We'd also need Buffalo to lose to Baltimore, Pittsburgh to beat Cincy, etc, etc... it's not likely to fall into place, but none of those individual losses would be that crazy.

BIG_DADDY 12-24-2006 01:44 AM

RINGLEADER 12-24-2006 02:54 AM

Lots of scenarios but basically the Chiefs have to win next week, two of the three 8-6 teams (NY Jets, Denver Broncos, and Cincinatti Bengals) have to lose out, and Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Buffalo and Miami all have to lose one.

And if we want San Fran to play hard we have to hope they win tomorrow and San Diego beats Seattle so the final week might actually mean something to the Niners.

Then again, if the Jets and Bengals win tomorrow the Chiefs will be eliminated from even the most contorted of paths to the playoffs...

The best case, and a 5 seed:

16)
Tenn @ Buff <-- Whichever wins has to lose (see below)
Balt @ Pitt
NE @ Jack
Cin @ Den
NYJ @ Mia Monday Night

Week 16 is not unlikely to shake down like this anyway. This gives us the most options total going into week 17.

17)
Buff @ Balt <-- If Buff wins WK16
Pitt @ Cin <-- This and/or Oakland win
Jack @ KC <-- Duh.
Oak @ NYJ <-- This and/or Pitt win
NE @ Ten <-- If Ten wins WK16
SF @ Den <-- Only necessary for 5 seed if all goes well.

If either the Jets or the Bengals win in week 17 we will absolutely NEED for Denver to lose to San Fran.

Totally agree -- the Chiefs blew a great opportunity. But it does make the games more interesting to see who needs to win and lose for the Chiefs to get in.

Gravedigger 12-24-2006 12:13 PM

Buffalo can beat the Jets. I have less faith in the Jets than I do in Cinci. Regardless if we somehow miraculously get into the playoffs we'd have to most likely go to Baltimore... so yeah.

Well the Steelers are losing. The Jaguars are up but their game really doesn't factor in much in the grand scheme of things provided we win next week.

Can someone confirm what Gumbal said last night regarding the Broncos -- that if Denver and KC share the same record we win the tie-breaker? I thought we lost all tie-breakers and given Gumbal's mistake-riddled broadcasts I don't want to take what he said at even half-value, yet along face-value...

If Cincy beats them and we beat Jacksonville, we're good over Denver.

Problem with that is, we wouldn't be ahead of Cincy and would then need major help from the Jets' opponents... not going to happen with the Raiders on the schedule.

If Denver and the Chiefs finish with the same record, Chiefs have the tie breaker with them on Division record...4-2 to 3-3 (since denver lost to SD twice).

Our conference record blows... so we are the last place for those who have a chance, plus we lost vs Pitt/Cinci/Miami and if they finish with the same record, they will be in front...

So as long as

We win

Denver, Miami, Buff, Pit, Tenn, Jags (vs us) lose 1

and Jets or Cinci lose 2

We are in.

Buffalo down 30-29 4th and 5, with :50 left in the game, Jauron decided to go for it instead of trying a 45 yard FG by Lindell. Lindell was 5 for 5 on the day. Losman threw an INT thus ending the game.

strange ending

mcan 12-24-2006 03:34 PM

Jax losing is just good for getting New England primed for their Tennessee matchup (which we now now for them to win) next week. And its good for knocking the wind out of the Jaguars, whom we need to beat next week. I included it because it help us. Not because it was necessary. Things are shaping up quite nicely.

We can now eliminate the Baltimore/Buffalo game in week 17 from our radar. It means nothing (except to maybe provide a roadbump for Baltimore going into the playoffs).

If Denver loses then Cincy gets a wild-card and we need the Jets to lose their last two games and the Titans to lose next week combined with a Chiefs win.

If Denver wins then we need the Jets to lose tomorrow night and then three-of-four from the Broncos, Bengals, Titans and Jets to lose next week combined with a Chiefs win.

If the Jets win either of their last two games then they'll claim a spot over the Chiefs for a wild-card (but not necessarily claim a spot). If the Bengals and Jets both win today and tomorrow then the Chiefs will be eliminated regardless of whether or not they beat the Jags next week.

Hootie 12-24-2006 03:44 PM

Denver needs to lose one -- I think the better chances of them losing that one comes today versus the Bengals.

Quote:

They host the Steelers next week -- I don't see them losing that game, so whether the Bengals claim a spot this week or next week it doesn't much matter and if it doesn't much matter I'd just as soon see them take the Broncos out today so we don't have to rely on the Niners to take Denver out at Mile High next week.

Quote:

Going to play the Dolphins in Miami tomorrow night could prove tough but it still leaves us relying on the Raiders to beat the Jets in New York next week. Not bloody likely, but I guess with an adequate defense the Raiders could pull off some kind of miracle.

Game, Set, Match....

Several factors that kept the Chiefs out.

1) losing Green at the beginning of the year

2) total team colaspe at Pittsburg

3) Huard Pissing down his pants at Miami

4) The coaching debacle in cleveland....

5) Green not playing up to past form after return

Chiefs were in three road games they could have won (Broncos, Dolphins, Chargers) and one road game they should have won (Browns). Great teams pull those games out (and have 12-3 records)...average teams do not...
