Kendrell Bell

Did Goonther finally figure out how to use him? He was very active in stopping hte runn last night.

Dark Horse 12-24-2006 10:19 AM

I think that was the first time all year I saw him chase a runner down from the opposite side of the field.

Simplex3 12-24-2006 10:31 AM

Wouldn't it be funny if he caught fire next year and started tearing up the league?

KCinNY 12-24-2006 10:33 AM

He waits until the season is over and he decides to step up his game.

Well hey, at least he did it aginst the worst O-Line and offense in the NFL.

Dark Horse 12-24-2006 10:45 AM

I've noticed that he is a pretty good down hill LB what he has lacked is coverage and pursuit skills. I just don't think those types of things are going to develop over night. If he can be a roll player he would be worth keeping.

Easy 6 12-24-2006 10:53 AM

Nobody was more excited to see him sign here than me, i had visions of him blasting guys outta their shoes.

Nobody has been more disappointed with his play to this point than me, watching him flail at TE's 5 yards outta reach & not coming through with all of the concussion inducers i had hoped for.

Having said that, if he can finally step up & be a sideline to sideline claymore mine in his 3rd year i will be happy to keep him. We can scheme around his lack of coverage skills to a point, if only he will be the run stuffer that he's more than capable of being.

Fox & possibly Pollard are hot on your heels Kendrell.

Step up or step aside.

Hootie 12-24-2006 10:54 AM

He played FANTASTIC last night...

So, for all of the millions we paid him...at least we got to see him shine for one week, against a rival!

kcxiv 12-24-2006 11:56 AM

I hope we keep him. WE can see he still has some game left. He's not old. I dont wanna see fox In there, He's not a blow up the fullback type player. He's the i will get ran over type player.

Hasn't gunther said it takes a couple of years for LB's to fully understand his scheme?

yeti 12-24-2006 10:34 PM

I wanna get excited about his play last night too but it was just one game when nothing mattered except for beating the raiders. I just don't see how this warrants anyone thinking he will play well when it matters.

Is it the lb'ers getting used to his scheme or is it Gun getting used to lb'ers talents? Bell was a force in Pitts....

yeti 12-24-2006 10:45 PM

that is true about bell in pitt. It sure is frustrating to see FA who have been playing well come to KC and then become average or more typically below average. How does this happen. It seems hard to believe it is due to coaching but maybe it makes all the difference.

TRR 12-25-2006 12:24 AM

I always thought Bell would be better in the middle. Our MLB ( Mitchell) blitzes more times than any of our OLB's. And that is what Bell does best.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am tired of watching Kawika Mitchell get manhandled by RB's and FB's every game when he's blitzing up the middle. Can he run over a RB for once?

If it were me, I would move Bell to the MLB position next season, and let Mitchell walk unless the money isn't there like he hopes.

You know, I wouldn't mind that at all. Bell is indeed out of position, he is a MLB.

Would we pick up another LB or just move Fox into the starting position?

It's about time to see what Fox is made of. Or, it has been rumored that Pollard may be looked at for an OLB position. I however, like Pollard and Page at safety.

Either way, I'm still not that impressed with Kawika Mitchell. He's come almost full circle from the start of his career, but I just kept thinking last night about how many plays the guy actually misses. Mitchell is a poor man's Marvcus Patton IMHO. He makes plays consistently, but he isn't a playmaker.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind seeing Mitchell back, I just think that a team will throw out a ton of money on him in FA. If that's the case, I would love to see KC move Bell to the middle, and sign Lance Briggs from Chicago, etc.

Hammock Parties 12-25-2006 12:43 AM

Bell sucks. I don't want him anywhere near this team next year. At ANY position.

Eric 12-25-2006 12:46 AM

Did he play as well as Scott Fujita?

What do you think happened to Bell?

Are we using him wrong? He made the pro bowl in 01...

Injuries took their toll. He's also out of position.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:12 AM

Playing him at MLB in a cover 2 is about the worst possible idea one could draw up...

Bell doesn't struggle covering in the cover 2. He struggles manned up against TE's. And I'm not sure how anyone can possibly say he's that bad in coverage as he gets pulled out on every 3rd down because Gun thinks Mitchell is better in the cover 2.

At any rate, I'd rather have Bell covering the middle of the field, than covering a TE. Bell has every bit as good of speed as Mitchell has IMO.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:16 AM

DJ should be our MLB...

Oh God no...The one and only thing DJ doesn't do well is avoid blockers. On the outside, he doesn't have to. He's free to roam, and use his athelticism to run around blockers.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:20 AM

Do you have any idea what the responsibilities of a cover 2 LB is?

DJ would be a perfect MLB in our cover 2 as soon as we get a DT that requires consistent double teams.

Sure-Oz 12-25-2006 01:20 AM

Don't Eff with DJ, let him do what he is doing, if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:24 AM

Urlacher started a few games as a weakside LB in Chicago, played awful..

Moved to MLB and he's been a pro bowler ever since.

DJ has similar skills to Urlacher...just doesn't have two DT's to eat up all of the blockers.

Hammock Parties 12-25-2006 01:27 AM

I think I'd rather have DJ outside. He can make more of an impact as a pass rusher there. His speed is a great asset in defending that side of the field.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:29 AM

keeping our best player at weakside LB seems like a mistake to me...

Hammock Parties 12-25-2006 01:30 AM

DJ is a strongside linebacker. Bell is the waste of skin playing weakside.

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:31 AM

how positive are you about that?

Hootie 12-25-2006 01:32 AM

no, I'm pretty sure he plays weakside...

Hammock Parties 12-25-2006 01:32 AM

100%

Go look at a damn depth chart.
