This one will hit home, I promise. In a word, incredible.

Talk about hitting home. My mother's side of the family has always lived in Monroe and the vicinity [Eros, Bawcomville, Chatham]. I've been to Chennault Park many times and drive by it almost every time we go down there. I have known the basic outline of Delaney's story for a long time, but only recently learned that he drowned in Monroe. I wondered exactly where, and if I'd been there. I'll have to go there and say a little prayer next time, now that I know what happened there.

Phobia 02-14-2001 05:12 PM

Wow!

RJ 02-14-2001 06:25 PM

AJ, thanks for posting that.

Bwana 02-14-2001 07:34 PM

What a great story........

Rick Stephens 02-14-2001 07:56 PM

I had the pleasure of talking to Joe Delaney for an hour one time before a Chiefs-Rams game at Anaheim Stadium. He was a true down to earth type guy, nothing phoney or stuck up BS. I tried to get one of the special patches the Chiefs wore on their jerseys the following season. I remember the incident real well.
A truly great article about a truly great guy.

Davechief 02-14-2001 08:38 PM

A first class article on a first class man

Brock 02-14-2001 08:57 PM

Unfortunate that Lamar Hunt apparently didn't do much to help this family after Joe died.

AJKCFAN 02-15-2001 12:05 AM

Don't thank me, thank Dave Walker on the old BB.

Yes, it's true. The old KC Star BB still can produce quality.

I saw no one mentioned it over here and that lots have no longer ventured into the old BB, so I knew it would return.

Really interested in AZ Chief's response. I know I'll hear from Tom Cash, Tracy, and Scott Cash.

Still, I promise this will NOT be 1999 all over again, as in keeping this on the BB endlessly. The point here was to direct all Chiefs fans to an article about the Delaney tragedy, but now provide an in-depth look on the aftermath of the tragedy to all parties involved.

The fire to get Delaney the proper recognition by the Chiefs has never left me. This only rekindles the passion. However, I will do it this time behind the scenes. Anyone new since 1999 and wants to be involved in the cause, let me know and I'll e-mail you (or Tom Cash will).

I'm glad to know Delaney's children have turned out to be great people. Their dad would be proud. I pray the life Delaney saved can turn his life around, for it truly would be a shame if Delaney did in fact die in vain.

AJ--
E-mail me. I'll do anything I can to get #37 the recognition he deserves. tke919@yahoo.com

~~Almost in tears.

Bob Dole 02-15-2001 08:22 AM

Any clue why this ended up in a Philadelphia newspaper instead of The Star?

Phobia 02-15-2001 11:31 AM

I think the reason the article was published in Philly is because the kid Delaney saved is incarcerated near there.

Baby Lee 02-15-2001 11:43 AM

Actually, No - Lemarkits is down at the Pea Farm in Ouachita Parish, just a few miles outside Monroe.

AJKCFAN 02-21-2001 11:20 PM

Please, this is not a "Back To The Top" message here.

There has been several developments occurring with the Delaney Project being put together, culminating in a phone conversation which lasted nearly an hour I just had with Mrs. Carolyn Delaney, widow of Joe Delaney.

I had a lot of questions answered by her. I will gladly go over the details over e-mails, but I can say this. Joe Delaney never did anything which would cause the Chiefs not to honor him. You can thank Lamar Hunt for completely ignoring him and not giving him the proper recognition which has been so long overdue.

She is extremely appreciative of everything which has been done on the part of us to help honor his memory and will gladly welcome any messages of support. Let me know and I'll get back to you right away.

So she knows!

Now, it's time to go on the offensive. Mrs. Delaney has encountered some severe adversity recently and our actions can really lift her spirits. We will be fighting her fight, in terms of honoring Joe. Time to make our moves. Those of you who thought this idea had died, guess again. These past few days, we have some even more new members than ever (isn't that right, Bob Dole & Mark M?) and we're going to add to this. It's strength in numbers. Those of you who have sent me e-mails regarding plans, thanks. Some of already been employed to get things moving.

No more "Back To The Top" posts. This time, it's time to take this idea and bring this to reality. We can get this done. If we can rally behind Chunky Charity (a noble cause, I'm not belitting it), then we can rally behind this too.

Lamar may have forgotten about # 37, but we haven't!

AJKCFAN 02-22-2001 01:13 AM

Without a doubt, we will need more volunteers from the KC side of things to help the 37 Forever Foundation take off.

The Delaneys situation is dire and I'm not about to abandon this cause, especially now. Mrs. Delaney is on the verge of being rendered homeless and has had lived in impoverished surroundings. Is this a cause to raise money to help her and her family out? Maybe it could, but she never suggested that to me during our conversation. She definitely enjoys what has been done and knowing this has made her more positive dealing with her situation. I don't know about you, but I will not let her down. I will fight for this cause because I know it's with the very best of intentions. I know I won't be alone in this upcoming battle....

We don't have anyone representing Joe Delaney's home state, Louisiana, which is where the Delaneys currently live. The closest we have is Texas with Bob Dole.

We have at last count a dozen members ready to bring this effort together. I know there are several more who are at the very least interested and I urge them to contact me or Tom about getting involved. United we stand, people. We promised everyone a long time ago we would go after this hard and fight the good fight. Now, the wall is starting to chip a bit....

There are many ways to do your part in making this a success. Should this be a success, then this truly will be a classic case of a grass roots movement.

Putting the blueprints together to go on the offensive...

AJ - send me some info at afreeman87@hotmail.com

AJKCFAN 02-22-2001 10:07 AM

Brock:

You asked for it... :^)

AJKCFAN 02-22-2001 08:16 PM

Mike Fannin, sports editor at the KC Star, has e-mailed me the following message.

Adam:

Thanks for your diligence. I couldn't agree with you more. It's a terrific story that we WILL do.

Sincerely,Mike Fannin
AME/Sports

Looks like a promise to me. We'll need to see to it that this Delaney story DOES in fact run in the KC Star.

Thanks everyone for putting the pressure on to get this written promise from Mr. Fannin. I sincerely hope there's more interested in the cause, but in case not, we have a solid squad ready to make our prescence felt...

Special thanks to those who have sent e-mails my way regarding this. It's always been a team effort to see this cause through and together we will be able to get this done.

Adam

A very good article. When I read the part about the kid being in jail I couldn't help but think "And Joe Delaney gave his life for THIS???"

By the way Adam, I got your e-mail and I'll get back to you soon.

Phobia 02-23-2001 10:39 AM

Adam, I don't know what I can do to help but I will if I can. I don't think you are asking a lot and I'm sure EVERYONE on this board is actually interested in contributing even if it's just sending a couple of emails out on behalf of the "movement". You may email me by clicking on my moniker at the top of any ChiefsPlanet page.

AJKCFAN 02-23-2001 11:09 AM

Phil:

I tried to see if you had your e-mail on the Members page, but unfortunately, you didn't. I do realize you've been interested all along to do something and now, with the Kram article to my conversation with Carolyn Delaney to now a written promise by the Sports Editor of the KC Star (Mike Fannin) that an article about the Delaney situation will be written, the cause has been renewed. The days of "Back To The Top" are done! We are able to make this work. I know we can, and many others do too.

In short, I'm after you and I'll gladly send you all the relevant documents sent my way these past several days.

And for anyone else who wants in, just make your e-mail available on the members page and let me know you want in. I'll send it your way (ain't that right, Gaz, Rick Stephens, JC-Johnny, Logical, etc.?).

Now, if you excuse me, I have a call to make to the NFLPA...

"37 Forever"

AJKCFAN 02-23-2001 11:28 AM

The NFLPA won't promise anything, but they will allow us to submit our proposal and evaluate if they wish to proceed.

I have the address of where to send it and who to send it to.

Kerri Cosover
2021 L Street NW
Suite 600
Washington, D.C. 20036

Kerri Cosover happens to be Gene Upshaw's assistant.

Thought you all would like to know this.

I also was told who Carolyn Delaney should contact from the NFLPA to help her financial situation...

"37 Forever"

AJKCFAN 02-23-2001 01:24 PM

Now the 37 Forever Foundation Mission Statement, the Philadelphia Daily News Article, and the response I received from Mark Kram (author of the article) has been sent via e-mail to the NFL offices, with the assurance that this will be examined.

As promised, this is going on the offensive.

If anyone can send over the Mission Statement Document and/or Philadelphia Daily News Article over to relevant KC Radio and TV stations by e-mail, that would greatly help matters.

Phobia 02-23-2001 01:26 PM

Adam,

At the very top of the first forum page is a listing of moderators/administrators. If you click on KPhobia, it will "mailto". I don't want to post it here for fear of web crawlers harvesting it and I'll be forever innundated with spam.

AJKCFAN 02-23-2001 01:35 PM

Phil:

Maybe it's my computer or maybe I'm not following the directions right, but I can't send an e-mail to you.

Here's what is happening when I try. I click your name and it gives your profile of status, total posts, last post, and current e-mail. For current e-mail, it says "Click here to e-mail KPhobia" and when I do that, it then says "Sorry! The user has specified...."

I know you're concerned about your e-mail being in the wrong hands. I propose this. If you edit your profile whereby you can receive e-mail WITHOUT advertising your e-mail, I can send you everything I can.

I've done that myself. If you see members and see AJKCFAN, you'll see the e-mail symbol. You don't know what it is, but you can e-mail me if you choose to that way and I'll definitely respond immediately.

You know what, try that way. It will definitely work. I apologize for the confusion...

Bob Dole 02-23-2001 02:26 PM

Bob Dole just emailed Phil's email address to Adam.

AJKCFAN 02-23-2001 02:52 PM

AJKCFAN thanks Bob Dole for the hook-up.

Just got off the phone with Tom Cash. He is fired up!!!

Phil, I'm heading over to send you the e-mails...

Thanks
