Continuing the totally useless offseason threads, let's have a vote for the best signatures, and everyone explain the motivation(except for the obvious ones) behind them.

Mine was just a funny response to a question that feminist attorney Gloria Allred posed to Bill Maher, 'Tell me one good thing drugs have accounted for?' The rest is history.

My favorite has to be DiscoJones' Travolta, with Cannibal& his many great sig's getting special recognition.

Your thoughts?

I think Gaz's endings are pretty clever. When I first started posting on the other board I always ended my post like his until someone posted a thread entitled "Quite copying off of Gaz's signature."

Can't say I have a favorite, since there are several notable sigs on the board.

Personally, I change my own sig about every 2 or 3 days, almost always something humorous (IMO) although I do put in a pic or other things occasionally.

And because of the political sensitivity of board members, since I'm a middle-of-the-road kind of guy, I'm careful to alternate between democrats and republicans in my sigs. Equal opportunity humor is the best policy. (i.e. last 3 sigs were a Rep. senator, Ted Kennedy and now Nancy Reagan - democrats get the next one...). ;)

I like mine...this is a very non-political response...this way I just look like a egomaniac instead of playing favorites...:)

Gaz's has staying power, he had a sig when many did not. Its simple, when you see "xoxo~" you know who it is.

I have to admit though i dont know what "xoxo~" represents (except Gaz). . . ooohh, mystery


Luzap's are great cause they summarize the body of his post. The reason that is so great is because, when Luz gets that keyboard movin' it has the braking power of a coal train. Lets face it people . . . the man can really get wordy!

Personally, I think gaz employs a writer.... no Chief fan could possibly be that witty or clever.


Mine? I like mine because I know it pretty much annoys everyone but the Duck and myself....

I tend to borrow a Gaz-like signature every once in awhile myself. I'm not clever to come up with one every time although. If it bothers Gaz then hey, let me know and I'll cease and assist immediatly.

Sorry Raiderhader but I nominate yours as worst along with JQs because they take up so much bandwidth. The board is getting slower, and I thing we may have to someday banish animated Gif signatures.

I had no idea I was contributing to the slowing down of the board. As you can see I got rid of my sig. I'll just have to come up with something else.

As for Gaz's sig, xoxo means hugs and kisses. My grandparents sign our cards that way (although minus the witty saying).

No big deal and don't get rid of it because of what I said. Our friends who take care of the board will let us know when it has gone over the top. You just might want to use it more selectively.

I knew that xoxo meant love and kisses, I am just praying that this is not Gaz's intent especially with the tail. That would be just plain creepy. I was hoping for more on the line of the football x's and o's with a hidden meaning for the tail.

I was thinking about getting a new one anyways, so it is no big deal.

The pics that you guys are using for the sigs won't slow the server down at all. These pictures are from a different server (i.e. jq's Spinning Shield is http://www.jps.net/tdhowell/Spinshld.gif. So this means that your browser will fetch the image from some other server, and not the ChiefsPlanet server. So don't hesitate to use pictures in your sigs, except for JQ....

Thanks for setting that straight. Sorry to JQ and Raiderhader, I thought you were using placing animated gifs in your signature. By the way Chiefsfan58 how did you know they were using another reference, and second while it is playing isn't it still taking bandwidth to be retrieved from the other server?

Logical,

To find out where the picture is being retrieved from, just right click on the picture and select properties. Next to Address(URL) it shows the URL that the picture is being fetched from.

OK, and as for how it doesn't take bandwith. When you goto chiefsplanet.com, it takes bandwith to transfer all of the HTML. This is then stored in your computer's cache. The browser uses this HTML to display the tables, text, etc. on your screen. Lastly, it retrieves the images, the ones that are from the ChiefsPlanet server, such as the smilies and Chiefs Logo at the top are downloaded from the ChiefsPlanet server to your hard drive and use bandwith. The rest of the stuff that's from other servers is downloaded from those servers, so the ChiefsPlanet server isn't involoved in the transferring or viewing of these images, wheter they are animated or not.

One last question, so bandwidth is being expended just not on the Planet server. Does this explain why even though I have DSL the threads with virtually no images load instantaneously, while those with the heavy use of images seem to build right in front of my eyes, kind of like it used to be when I was using a regular modem only much faster. If so is not might statement that the BB is being slowed down (though technically incorrect) in essence the result to we the end user?

Images take up a lot more space that text, so naturally they are going to take a lot more time to load. But another reason why it takes longer even though you have DSL could be because the server you are getting the image from is either very busy, or on some slow free server like Geocities, or Homestead.

You could say that the BB is taking longer to fully load (becasue of the other pics), but the server is operating like it always has been. So if we load the BB with tons of pictures on each post, the text and all the other ChiefsPlanet pics will load normally, but the page will take longer to fully load on your computer because the other images haven't all been downloaded from the other servers. So the ChiefsPlanet server is functioning at the same speed and uses the same bandwith, but it just takes longer for the whole page to appear on our screen. Posting, viewing tables and text, searching, etc. should all take the same amount of time. Does that answer your question?

"xoxo" is indeed "hugs & kisses."

I send a lot of notes here at work and I started adding that several years ago. Since most notes at work mean "you did something wrong" I added xoxo to show them I was not mad at them.

I got lots of odd looks at first, but now [just like the lightning bold earring and ponytail], it is simply part of the Gaz mystique. Now, if I send a note without the "xoxo" I get a call asking if I am mad or something.

The tilde ~ means absolutely nothing that I am consciously aware of. Feel free to assign whatever dark, hidden meanings you like. It would be cheaper than therapy.

Gaz - the tilde (~) is the mathematic symbol for an approximation. I am shocked & surprised you did not recall that! :)

"xoxo~" makes me think of a snake, the birds eye view of a snake allbeit a short, stubby snake. The "~" is the snakes tounge. the snake is saying "Gazzzzz"
