I wouldn't be surprised to hear that's true. It's always wise course of actions to have contingencies in place for 'worst-case scenarios".

If Grbac isn't signed by Monday at midnight, then I'll start to worry...

This news doesn't surpise me a bit, Trent Green is a Vermeil/Saunders QB.

I'm not a Green fan, I don't pretend to hide that, but it's not bringing in Green that worries me, it's giving up our #12 pick for him that I won't accept...

Too high a price, especially with the number of holes that need to be filled.

Earlier reports said the team would look to trade Green - for the right price. Martz said Thursday he has enough room under the $67.4 million salary cap to keep Green as a backup for starting QB Kurt Warner. "If we still want to look at ourselves as contenders, we need two guys at that position," Martz said. "Look at what happened last year. That's why we'd like to keep Trent."

That's way too high of a price to pay for someone of Green's talent.

Carl won't give up the #12 pick(Corey Dillon), next years pick(s) are on the block though.

I could see the Chiefs trading the #12 for Green, although I would expect them to try to recoup the 2nd they sent to the Rams: Chiefs First and Third for Green and the Second-rounder they sent for Vermeil.

Also, I wouldn't expect the Chiefs to trade any of next years picks. The 2002 draft is said to be one of the best drafts in over a decade, while 2001 is weak at the top of the draft, but deep thru the first 70 or so players.

Rivals Nfldigest is always wrong and full of misinformation. I wouldn't believe a word of that report. To top it off, Steiner is also Green's agent, so what does that say about getting a deal done with Green if they can't get one done with Grbac, since they'll probably both want similar money (Steiner comes in and says "Hey, you traded a first round pick and let go of a pro bowl QB just for Trent Green, so he must be worth a lot of money to you). And as far as their statement of Saunders preferring Gannon, why would he say that or would that be an issue in the interview when Gannon was already out the door by the time Marty resigned and the coaching interviews began?

Is John Clayton full of misinformation? No, their are discrepancies in the negotiation process.

Clayton or not, it makes no sense. And yes, Clayton is wrong at times, IE his hunch last year that Dillon would wind up with the Chiefs...

Well again I'm not denying that he is or isn't, I'm just saying from the outside looking in, it makes no sense. My beef was really with the nfldigest article, which made it sound like a done deal, not Clayton, who "hears" that Vermiel and Martz are talking...
