Mike Shula as our new QB coach?

I haven't seen this anywhere, but it makes sense.

Not only does he have the connection with Croyle, but he also was Huard's QB coach in Miami in 2000.

StcChief 01-16-2007 10:17 AM

sounds good, sign him up.

Extra Point 01-16-2007 10:18 AM

Good idea!

Bowser 01-16-2007 10:19 AM

Sure, why not?

If he won't do the gig, we could always promote Lou from groundskeeping*.

* In case your sarcasm meter is brokened, let me just say that I don't think changing our QB coach improves this team one iota.

Lou just got promoted to Concessions. He has officially removed his name from the list of candidates for the QB Coach opening. FYI

Who knows? Maybe Terry Shea was the offensive equivalent of Peter Guinta. Or maybe he didn't work well with the young guys.

Anybody that makes Croyle more comfortable and helps him improve would be a welcome addition IMO.

Croyle looked extremely anxious holding that clipboard all season. Lou would have been perfect to help Croyle get more comfortable and improve his technique.

SLAG 01-16-2007 10:46 AM

i thought Dick Curl was the one to get the promotion

HonestChieffan 01-16-2007 11:00 AM

wonder if this will come up again a few times more?

crazycoffey 01-16-2007 11:13 AM

how about norm chow as our OC too?

Solari is needed more with revamping the O-Line, give him incentive bonus at the end of next season if he can do it.

What, exactly, does a quarterback coach do when he's coaching a vet like Green? Secure the conference room for position meetings? Make coffee? What?

Dick Curl was brought in by Herm to help him with game/clock management issues on offense.

As for the idea of bringing in Mike Shula as a QB coach... HELLLLLLLLL NO.

This is the same Mike Shula who was part of a stagnant and lifeless Bucs offense a few years ago (the last time he was in the NFL I believe).

Of course playing Bucs-ball on offense is probably appealing to Herm.

What he did with Huard should earn him a ribbon or something at least.

He might have a bigger job in mind....

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...s/16473100.htm

The Dolphins' search for a coach may be making a bold and nostalgic reach toward the past with the team interviewing Mike Shula, son of Don Shula, over the weekend.

Shula spent Saturday talking with Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga and his staff about the possibility of succeeding Nick Saban.

Ironically, Saban left the Dolphins to become coach at Alabama after Shula was fired by the Crimson Tide.

The idea of bringing Shula back to the franchise has been kept under wraps because the team wanted to gauge if he was indeed a legitimate candidate for the job. Having had two interviews, he apparently is.

The Dolphins have also interviewed Jim Mora and Chan Gailey twice.

People familiar with the search told The Miami Herald today that no decision has been made on a coach and no offer has been made.

Shula posted a 26-23 record during four seasons at Alabama, taking the team to a bowl each of his final three seasons. He spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996-99.

Shula, 41, grew up around the Dolphins. He was a ball boy during his youth and returned later to serve as an assistant coach under his father before heading briefly to the Chicago Bears as an assistant.

Shula is close friends with Dolphins president Bryan Wiedmeier.

Reaching out to Shula might be a good move for the Dolphins as the franchise is seeking someone with head coaching experience but also someone who will invigorate the fan base after five seasons without a playoff appearance.

The Shula name remains the standard by which coaching excellence is measured. Don Shula won 347 games during his career, the most

Dude did a pretty crappy job then, because we had numerous issues with clock and game management.

Priest4Prez 01-16-2007 08:28 PM

Maybe we should name lou the new Gm. The grass was the only thing that looked good on home games this year. At least I can look forward to an excellent cup of Cocoa watching the chiefs losing to the bears next year.

Why do you think Lou took the job in concessions? Access to the kitchen. Watch for CP to choke on a snow pea real soon.

No backup QB ever did a better job of holding the clipboard than Todd Collins. I'll bet he'll make a great Backup QB Coach someday.

I don't think Mike Shula will take a QB job here in KC when he has been offered the HC gig at miami

There's no way the Dolphins could be that stupid.

He was on their top three. I saw it on PTI. They were agruing about how the dolpins are that stupid.

The Jaguars have reportedly hired former Alabama head coach Mike Shula to coach their quarterbacks.

Shula led the Crimson Tide to a 26-23 record in four seasons and was fired in late November. Earlier this offseason, Shula was considered for a position on Cam Cameron's offensive staff with the Dolphins.

ILChief 01-25-2007 11:54 AM

Hello, Dick Curl

booger 01-28-2007 09:53 PM

I've got a feeling we may be looking at Mark Whipple the former steelers QB coach for the same gig with us. Nothing really to go by, just a hunch. Tomlin hired Ken Anderson for the QB coach job and I havn't heard anything on Whipple. I don't think Dick Curve will change roles to be the qb coach, i hope not anyway. Might be a reason why we checked out Omar Jacobs as well, since they were both with PITT las year.

I have no idea who our new Strength and conditioning staff will be since Herm canned Jeff Hurd, Billy "big tits" Long and Kaz Kazadi.

To my knowlegde, Donnie Henderson is still with out a job as well. I know he interviewed but don't know if he is still considered for the SF DC job. Manny thought they would promote Singletary, but I bet Nolan is affraid he will get a HC offer as soon as next offseason and wants a long term solution at DC. They are even interviewing KC's old special teams ace/modern day Rich Scanlon:

49ers | Team receives permission to interview Manusky
Sun, 28 Jan 2007 17:37:14 -0800

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have received permission to interview San Diego Chargers linebackers coach Greg Manusky for their defensive coordinator position.

As for Henderson, I'd bet if he doesn't find what he is looking for we might make a spot for him on our staff as asst. HC or defensive assisstant. Might be a good deal.

That's all. Just a few coaching staff thoughts.

shaneo69 01-28-2007 09:59 PM

Two other names to throw out there for QB coach: John Hufnagel, who got canned as OC by the Giants, and Mike Kruczek, who wasn't retained by Whisenhunt in AZ and who was a finalist with Shula for the Jax QB coaching job.

I didn't realize Herm canned all the strength and conditioning coaches.

booger 01-28-2007 10:06 PM

Kruczek was the oc for the last part of the season as well, i believe. He seemed to have a good repor with Leinart.

The star sucks, which is wasting my time bitching about chiefs coverage, it never changes, the same every offseason.

Wish there was more insight to this.

Priest4Prez 01-29-2007 04:47 PM

Shea still has his job.....for now.

booger 01-29-2007 05:10 PM

Priest4Prez 01-29-2007 07:07 PM

Priest4Prez 01-29-2007 09:37 PM

booger 02-06-2007 02:38 AM
