Chiefs | Team will likely look for top defensive tackle
Thu, 18 Jan 2007 22:22:46 -0800 Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to target a high-quality defensive tackle this offseason, and unless one is released, they will likely have to look to the draft for one. Chiefs | Webb will see increased role next season Thu, 18 Jan 2007 21:43:37 -0800 Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeff Webb will be a bigger part of the team's offense next season, according to head coach Herman Edwards. "Webb will be a part of this offense," said Edwards. "He needs to be. He's a good football player. We've got to get him on the football field." |

If they are gonna do this, do it right and move up high enough to the top guy then! But is there even a DT that is worth really moving up for???
|
we don't have enough picks to move up high enough. unless they only want to draft 1 guy.
i think branch from michigan is about it. |
Boy I'm glad they scouped that info out of the Chiefs.
|
teicher is a bloodhound.
|
Maybe they'll at least up-grade the Chiefettes...

Amobi Okoye |
I don't know if Okoye is worth moving up for. I watched him play and LOVE his game, but with the weak DT class this year and DT being such a premium, I think he'll go real high.
If there a chance to get him in the mid to high teens, that's one thing, but I don't know if he grades out as a DT prospect worth moving up too high for? My top 2 would be Okoye and Jarett. I think any DT of worth will be off the board long long before we can sniff it and WR is loaded in this draft. I pretty much NEVER want to go after a wideout with a 1st pick, but its a position of serious need for us and watching him play in the Rosebowl I really like his chances to dominate in the NFL. He's a big guy, which Herm likes for his WR, so maybe a chance it happens? |
If they want to reach, why don't they just re-sign Junior Siavii? Same difference.

I was looking around at various draft projections and one site had us taking Levi Brown, OT, Penn St. They had Okoye going to Miami and Jarrett going to the Packers. Here's the blurb on the 3:
Levi Brown For years this franchise has been spoiled with outstanding offensive line play but those days have come to an end and with Willie Roaf retiring before last season and Will Shields set to ride into the sunset as well there are some major concerns up front. I would not be at all surprised if Levi Brown is off the board by this point considering the dearth of top offensive tackles in this draft but if he is still available the Chiefs would be wise to jump on him because it might be their last chance to add an immediate contributor outside. Levi Brown is a mountain of a man at 6-5 and 328 lbs. but he is also a pretty good athlete and has a ton of starting experience in the Big Ten. This move would provide a major upgrade over Jordan Black at left tackle and might even be a best-case scenario for them in round one. Defensive tackle and wide receiver will also garner serious consideration and there will likely still be some value on the board at both spots. Okoye This just might be the toughest pick to project in round one but in the end it came down to Amobi Okoye and Leon Hall, and the defensive tackle got the final nod. The Phins have plenty of needs but with Vonnie Holliday, Keith Traylor and Jeff Zgonina all slated to become unrestricted free agents there is a good chance Miami will be losing their top three interior linemen this offseason, which would make the position priority #1. The NFL Draft has rarely, if ever, seen a prospect like Okoye, who played in college as a 16-year-old true freshman and will still only be a 20-year-old rookie next fall despite having four years of Division I playing experience. Okoye is coming off a fantastic senior campaign and his upside is through the roof which is why he is one of the hottest names in the draft and soaring up the boards of most teams. Hall would be a possibility as well and the Dolphins need secondary help but Okoye and his potential are just too enticing. Jarrett A common phenomenon I have noticed in the NFL is teams with lackluster talent somehow finding a way to win a few more games than they probably should, thus taking them out of contention to land the type of elite player in the draft that they still need. Unfortunately for the Cheeseheads I'm afraid that might be the case with Green Bay this year because even though they finished with a .500 record at 8-8 they are still probably among the bottom 5-7 teams in the league when it comes to overall talent. That doesn't mean they can't land an impact player here though and Dwayne Jarrett would be a terrific addition to their young offense. When it comes to size, hands, ball skills and production Jarrett has few peers in this draft but he will most likely be pushed down draft boards due to his lack of top end timed speed and the inevitable comparisons to Mike Williams. Regardless Jarrett is simply a football player who will get the job done between the white lines and if he falls much further than this someone will have themselves quite a steal. |
Hopefully we can "reach" like we did with Hali.

Great work ethic, Very Young but VERY SMART! I don't want to waste draft pics moving up but if we did I would be less pissed if they did it for someone of this kids ability. . |

I already covered this. I think we need to lock him in a big room all off season, feeding him nothing but roids while showing him pictures of Israel War Interrogations and making him work out 24/7. Increasing the odds of actually living up to his potential and brainwashing him to be a robot beast that only wants to feed on the blood of opposing QB's. If this doesn't complete the deal, then I would be willing to take part in a ransom over a loved one (surely he loves something besides Dunkin Donuts). |
id be happy with cory redding

Oh, I forgot, the offense is too complex for your dumbass, and as such, you don't realize you're a dumbass and think everyone else has roughly the same IQ. I wonder if Herman ****ing Edwards is even smart enough to spell "IQ"? I highly doubt it. |

Maybe we've magically figured out how to draft a DT, but Bob Dole ain't holding his breath. |

heh. i just saw a clip of Herm getting schooled by kenny king in SB XV.
Why don't we move to the 3-4, at least then we'd only need to luck out on one DT, rather than two. |

While the plays they ran this year may have been in the same playbook, they sure as hell didn't use them in the same manner as previous years. Nobody who can wipe their ass without an instruction manual is going to bitch about putting the best players on the field. |
"We didn't change the offense"
sure, herm, you didn't change the book. I don't doubt Saunders had "up the center's butt" in there. he just didn't use it on 65% of downs. |
The only Defensive Tackle I would be interested in the Chiefs goin after is Albert Haynesworth, ton of potential and talent, but too much baggage .....
Other than that I dont know who else is available, does anybody know ? |

Brodie Croyle? Jeff Webb? Jordan Black? The fact Herm actually thinks these players have a future in the Chiefs offense shows how clueless he is. |

For cryin' out loud.
you don't go to a 3-4 because you have no DT's. We don't have ANY 3-4 ends (Tamba and Allen are way too small to play end in a 3-4, and yet too big and too standard of 4-3 type athletes to play OLB in a 3-4.) We don't have any real ILB's for a 3-4 other than Bell. It's a really dumb idea. We'd negate an awful lot of good young talent at key spots (DE, LB) just because... what? WE'd still need a massive DT. So there's really no reason at all. Chris |

Now Jordan Black is a different story. But as far as Webb & Croyle, you never know until you play them. I'm ready for change. |

Hmm I thought Carl Peterson just said that LT was the most pressing need or something to that affect on the radio.
|
as if all pro DTs aren't being released all over the place.

Donte Stallworth was also available last year before the season when he could have made a difference. These were both glaring needs. Instead, we focused on Michael Bennett, who did fill a void. We should have also gone for these other solutions. |
Drew Bennett
