Tomlin new HC for Steelers

Mike Tomlin of the Vikings is the new HC in Pittsburgh. Just reported. Only leaves the Raiders without a HC.

Seriously though I thought Grimm would be the man or atleast leading candidate. Vikings may have had the #1 rush D, but they had no pass rush at all and their passing D wasn't that great.

chiefforlife 01-20-2007 03:51 PM

Yeah, I thought Grimm would get it also. His credentials are better then Tomlins.

I believe thats Terri Hatcher in the sig.

As for Grimm, i think he got the shaft. Tomlin had the #1 rush D because of the 2 buffalo's at DT & your also right about their pass D, there was too much talent back there to be so mediocre. Tomlins another "genius" that happened to have great players at certain positions.

Worst coaching move ever by the squeelers, Grimm knows the team & has proven his worth.

They will SUCK next year, this franchise is in for a hard fall.

Grimm's credentials are the same as Solari's. He was blessed with a great athletes on the offensive line for a long time, making him look like a great coach, when that may not necessarily be the case. Bugs Bunny would be considered for head coach and O coordinator positions given the same collection of talent to "coach."

Steelers fans DID NOT want Grimm to be coach and feel that if he weren't on the Steeler's payroll, never would have been considered.

Grimm was the Defensive coordinator, Whisenhunt was the OC.

Try Dick LeBeau as DC brain.

I was comparing him to Solari who was promoted to our O-coordinator position from the O-line. Basically saying, they ascended (or would have in Grimm's case) on the talent of his players, no necessarily on his merit as a coach.

My bad...I knew that too. ( Im a dumbass)

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-20-2007 05:30 PM

I'm sorry, but their #1 ranked rush D was because of Pat and Kevin Williams, and the Vikings horrible pass defense. This guy had pretty much nothing to do with it.

Reaper16 01-20-2007 06:01 PM

This sounds like a decently dumb hire.

DJay23 01-20-2007 07:54 PM

Just talked to a couple buddies of mine (both huge Steelers fans) and they're pumped about it. They were mostly worried about them hiring Grimm, which they didn't want. Ron Rivera was who they really pined for, but feel that Tomlin is a young firey guy with a defensive background.

Plus, the Steelers aren't the kind of organization to make stupid, hasty decisions.

FloridaMan88 01-20-2007 07:57 PM

Interesting that the Steelers applied the Peter Principle when evaluating Grimm's potential as a head coach.

Too bad the Chiefs didn't do the same before promoting Solari to offensive coordinator.

Then again, Solari is exactly what Herm wanted in an offensive coordinator. An unqualified stiff who would serve as a puppet for Herm's ultra-conservative offensive gameplans.

Steelers | Tomlin denies being hired
Sat, 20 Jan 2007 14:42:45 -0800

Updating a previous item, ESPN.com reports Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin has denied a SportsIllustrated.com report that he has been hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as their next head coach. Tomlin told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that no decision has been made. "It is untrue. I have no idea where it's coming from. I have not talked to the Rooneys today," Tomlin said. Sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton the report was incorrect, and the team is not expected to make a decision Saturday, Jan. 20.

This dude looks like Omar Epps.
