as always brilliant smack imagery by sally. Just wait till Julian punks Giraffe Bennett

I'm new here but honestly thought you were a KU fan. The only time I saw you post was about KU and in KU game threads.

Weird.

teedubya 01-27-2007 02:49 PM

Saul is a chameleon... he secretly LOVES KU basketball, but then we at CP busted his ass for loving KState and KU, so slowly he stopped the lovefest for KU, but deep down he wants to Rock Chalk.

Tactical Funky 01-27-2007 03:03 PM

I had to admit I laughed at that slip-up by Wright, but he's made up for plays like that with some pretty insane dunks.

True.

Also, when he's on fire - as in the Florida game - not many people in the league can hang with him. :)

Tactical Funky 01-27-2007 04:10 PM

BTW, I'm still laughing at the Mizzou fan that posted smack in the comment section of that video post...

Priceless! LMAO

Julian is kind of overrated IMO, but that is because he was so hyped up coming into KU. He's done a great job this year filling in his role, and its our leading rebounder. Alot of people had high hopes for him, and thought of him as a great NBA player. Personally, I don't see how Julian would ever be a great NBA player. He can't shoot, he's 6-8, small frame,..no way he could ever make it as a decent 3 in the NBA. Which should make it easier for him to be at KU all 4 years, so I don't have a problem with him being overrated.

Reerun_KC 01-27-2007 05:19 PM

Saul your love for KU is like no other!

Is this your smack now? You do the "who cares?" thing quite a bit. Are you really looking for an answer?

Wa-Z 01-28-2007 12:33 AM

Maybe what happened wasn't what it looked like. How do we know he didn't get a cramp or pulled something as he jumped up?

I love JuJu, but sometimes he focuses too much on "showtime" and not enough on the basics. :shake:

Strange player. 6 steals and 6 TO's?

Silock 01-28-2007 11:38 AM

Lately, whenever he has the ball in his hands, I just wish he'd get rid of it. He can't handle the ball, and usually does something stupid (although not to that scale) like that every game.

I wish someone had the video of Arthur Johnson getting rejected by the rim at Allen Fieldhouse when he was all alone under the basket. I think he even fell on his ass too. I think it was AJ's freshman season.

There's a difference between falling on your ass being rejected then having a wide open dunk, to feel an itch on your leg and muff it badly!

Do you even remember AJ's dunk? It reminded me of the old Sprite commercials. AJ was all alone, just him and the basket, and was rejected by the RIM, then landed on his ass. Thats pretty bad.

I do remember now. ROFL

They were both pretty bad, we need a youtube vid of that, and im a tiger fan.

Saulbadguy 01-28-2007 02:53 PM

This wasn't near as bad as the Marshall Brown missed dunk. MU could have won that game had he not missed that dunk.

Pitt Gorilla 01-28-2007 02:53 PM

How about Paulding's teabag dunk? Anyone have that one?

He is actually probably the best passing big guy in the country when he doesn't force things(see:no look pass to Rush in the OU game last year, all of the florida game this year) and he has good handles as well. The problem is when he does force things he plays very poorly and does more harm than good.

So he's the "best passing big guy in the country", except "when he forces things" based on two examples?

His ass/to ratio is horrendous. There's no getting around that. The guy can rebound. The guy can dunk. He's a poor shooter. Poor ball handler. And makes almost 3 TO's for every assist.

Erm...yahoo says he's average almost 2 assists per game and 2.5 turnovers per game...

2 x 3 = 2.5?

Last time MU was any good. Actually that was the year they were ranked in the top 10 preseason and flamed out to a first round NIT loss.

Yeah, but he isn't a jump shooter. He shoots a high percentage because almost all of his shots are layups or dunks.

If I'm playing kU, Wright can shoot 15-footers all day long if he wants.

Wright definitely makes some spectacular plays... but he doesn't seem willing/able to make the correct play all of the time. If he can do that, maybe THEN he's worthy of all the preseason accolades.

Thanks for the correction Malcor. I actually hit the wrong the number on the Ass/to ratio. That's still bad.

And I should have been more specific. Wright's very good around the basket. But he's not a threat from outside 10 feet, no?

He's not going to be raining threes or anything, but he's a good shooter inside the arc. I'd say a good 50% of his shots are not layups or dunks. He ends up shooting a lot from around the free throw line.

He can't handle the ball, though, and anyone that says differently just isn't watching. If that guy is out on the floor dribbling the ball, he'll usually turn it over.

If by 'good shooter' you mean he hits about 35 percent of his flat, line-drive jumpers, then yes, he's a good shooter.

bobbything 01-29-2007 11:06 AM

I'm as die hard a KU fan as you'll find, but I'm with William on this one. Julian Wright is awful this year. Sans the Florida game, he hasn't done anything except turn the ball over an hesitate inside the arc.

He can't shoot. Anyone who says that he can is kidding themselves. He really can't pass consistently. Sure, he has a few highlight passes, but his turnovers lend to the fact that he simply is a poor passer. He can dribble; but, really, when is the last time you wanted your 6'6" forward dribbling inside against a couple of guards? He turns it over every single time.

If he'd just play within himself, he's be a solid player. But this preseason B12 POY crap has him trying waaaaaaaaaaay too hard.

When he's on, he's great. But he hasn't been "on" since the Florida game. Maybe he'll flip some sort of switch come the end of the year. Or maybe I'm just holding my breath.

Props for looking at Wright with something other than team-colored glasses.

Wright is at his best when he plays like a true power forward (rebounding, posting up, etc) but his thin frame, and the fact that's been told he's great because he's a "point forward" his entire career keep him from doing that, I think.

Hey, I'll trade you Kalen Grimes for him. Then you wouldn't have to worry about him throwing passes away... because Grimes NEVER passes the ball.

hawkchief 01-29-2007 11:40 AM

I Julian as a player, and he is a great kid as well. However, his shot outside of 6 feet just is not good. Almost zero ball rotation. Oddly, he is a fairly decent free throw shooter, with decent form.

He is a huge "tweener", and his NBA prospects will be interesting to follow, as there is no way he can play 3 with his outside shot. As a 4, at 6'8", he will be undersized. Obviously tons of athleticsim, but like Walker from KSU, it will be interesting to follow their careers, as neither can shoot, and at their ages, they won't wake up and just figure it out some day.
