That really sucks. RIP Barbaro. I was there when he won the Derby, what a performance...

This being a Chiefs board, I wonder how many people feared that Gary Barbaro had been euthanized.

I read a piece on ESPN that talked about all the surgeries that had been done on the horse, and how pieces of bone and hoof and everything else had been amputated.

For however long, like a year or whatever, the horse has been getting medical care at a standard that exceeds that of many countries in the world, and many places and stations in this country.

I wonder what all of this animal's medical expenses could add up to? And on treatments that were from what I understood a longshot to begin with.

What could have been done for real, actual humans for that price?

Eh. Glue factory. Big deal.

Why?

This is the dumbest, longest-running, most irrelevant sports story I can remember.

Honestly, I would rather hear/read five TO stories than one more about this horse.

Some of the comments in this thread just further my belief that animals make better people then most people. :shake:

If you don't care then stay the fuck out. If you do come in then shut the fuck up. Nobody put a gun to your head and made you click the link.

A beautiful animal died and probably deserves more respect in his passing then many of the posters on this thread.

Iowanian 01-29-2007 12:07 PM

Just think how much money would have been saved if they'd have just done this a year ago like they should have.

Sometimes, putting an animal down is the kind thing to do.

It's called nature, ck, this is what happens. But nevertheless, you made my point.

"Beautiful animals" die every second. Why did we get this one stuffed down our throat for damn near a year?

Al Bundy 01-29-2007 12:11 PM

Someone did make a great point that this animal received far better medical care than half of the children in the US... I for one am glad he is out of his misery.

I can still remember watching Gary Barbaro return an INT 102 yards for a TD. That was simply awesome. I don't remember who the hell we were playing, but I just remember my Dad and I jumping up and down from our seats at Arrowhead hugging each other. lol

No kidding. It was a horse genetically engineered to profit from our gambling-obsessed culture. I am glad the horse is finally at rest and all, but it's kind of a sad commentary that this is a matter of national sports importance.

Hell he was probably only kept alive all this time so they could continue farming him for inseminating other horses.

Why did we get this one stuffed down our throat for damn near a year?

Quick call the police. Have them arrest the person that physically forced you to reenter this thread, or read a single news item about it, or watch a single broadcast. If you're not interested then move along. It's a quite simple process.

As for money spent or time invested, what's it to you? It's not your money. Outside of the time you spent being forced to read/hear about it, none of your time is involved.

Humans > Animals even CP posters

Sometimes and with some people I have my doubts.

Iowanian 01-29-2007 12:23 PM

I find humor in the people who act like this horse was an integral part of your lives. It was an animal, genetically engineered to have small, thin bones so it could run fast, which coincidently makes its bones brittle.

this animal was treated better than most people its entire life. In nature, a tree would have sprouting on the buzzard turds it became a year ago.

Its hardly a tragedy.

I said that it received better medical treatment than "many places and stations in this country." There are humans who don't have access to that standard of care, it is true. I didn't say "better than half the children in this country", which would indeed be a bunch of BS.

I mean, on a national level so many people are worried that there is this deadly health care scarcity epidemic, but here we have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, being pumped into a horse that can't stand up. If Barbaro had been some nameless old nag - it would have gotten the needle a long time ago. Having baows that are a goldmine pays off I guess.

Shit, 10 minutes would constitute five or six Kentucky Derbies, wouldn't it? I'll never understand how people get so bunged up over an event that's basically over in the blink of an eye.

The race itself, all minute and a half of it, is kind of fun to watch. I like to tune in about a minute before it starts and root for the horse with the best name, if I can remember it's on that weekend.

Well, you could run 60 100 meter dashes in said time period as well, but it's probably among the most hyped events of the Olympics every time. Think about it...9.8-9.9 seconds spread out over 4 fucking years....

Same here. But I'll skip the hours of overraught talking-sports-heads bullshit brought to you by Budweiser leading up to it and following it.

And the idea of people actually going to great lengths and dropping serious coin to attend an event that's over in 90 fucking seconds just seems reeruned.

True, but there are lots of different events at the Olympics. You're not just going to watch one important race and then leave.

This is correct...although according to Patrick Bateman, one of the most important things to do at the Kentucky Derby is rape a young debutante with a can of hairspray, thus justifying the expense I guess.

I understand what you are saying, but, the original question was why are paying attention to this horse when there are other horses dying all the time. Fame is the answer.

Also, alot of men and women have given up more important things than fame and fortune to fight the war and their deaths didnt make the headline news.

Even though it is a horse......and most of us could really give two shits about whether it lives or dies.....I have a soft spot in my heart for animals....lots of people do. I heard the news...and said "Man, that sucks....." But I'm not gonna sit around and mope like it is some big deal.

However, I think it is more commendable for someone to genuinely care about the death of a horse, than to come into a forum and "act" like they really care about when someone like Darrent Williams is shot and killed.

I saw threads pop up about how sorry everyone was when he died.......I would never say in a million years I am glad the dude died......but never would I try and act like it really affected my life or anything like that. The guys plays on a team that I hate........and all of a sudden I'm supposed to have a soft spot and grieve over Darrent Williams? Gimme a break.

Barbaro = Darrent Williams

Because when I heard the news for both I said "Man, that sucks"......and that was about it.....and then back to reality.

Thanks, somebody gets it.

It's pathetic that the media has couched this as a humanitarian effort tho save the poor horse, when in reality it was a money grab by its' owners who stand to make bazillions on "Sons of Barbaros'" for decades to come. For those crying over the horse, get a life.

PS - I love animals as much or more than anyone else.
