Casey Wiegmann
What's all this stuff about Wiegmann being let go, replaced, changing positions?
How does crap like this get started? Wiegmann was the first offensive player Herm talked to when he became head coach because he knew how under-rated he is. This guy is one of the best centers in the NFL year in and year out. |
Not for the Sytem the Chiefs are running now. He gets thrown around like a rag doll.
|
I have a ton of respect for Casey, came over as a totally unheralded Bears bench warmer & played at an All-Pro level for a long time as an undersized Stepnoski type.
Having said that, he's getting a bit long in the tooth & consistently struggles with powerhouse DT's & NG's. That doesnt bode well for him on a team going to a smash mouth, ball control style. Maybe its time to look to the future??? |
He was better as a pulling center in Vermeil's system.
|
I agree great for Vermeil..not suited for Edwards. He is not a power blocker.
|
Good luck, Casey .
|
Trade him for a 2nd round draft pick. I am sure you can convince NE to do it.
|
Somebody show me where a coach or player (not an idiot analyst) has said or hinted that Wiegmann is not suited for "Herm's system?"
|
I havent heard anything about us letting him go.
|
I've seen more than one person on here hint that he may retire sooner than people realize.
|
the only thing I ever read about was that Casey was thinking about retiring.
Perhaps they want Rudy Niswanger, 6-5 300, to take over. |
I love Casey, but if we insist on running up the ass of the LG, C, and RG, we need someone a lot bigger.
|
Casey is a pretty cool guy. He is not that big though. First time I met him, I would not have guessed he was a football player. Looked more like a linebacker. I think he is dating one of my ex girlfriends Danni, right now-lol

One more reason Herm pisses me off.
Change the ****ing offense, so that the capable players that you do have, no longer are suited for it. Brilliant |
Casey is a great pulling center, but I agree he isn't suited for smashmouth football. I think we would be better suited spending the money elsewhere.

How long did it take us to get a first down running up the middle against Indy? |

Last time I checked Fax, he was able to supply a continuous inventory of ammunition. His strong suit. |
Casey's not going anywhere for at least one year. There's too much rebuilding on the O line for the Chiefs to worry about, filling in for bad or retiring players, before they start replacing good players with better fits.
If Herm gets the guys he wants this offseason for the ugliest holes on the OL, look for Weigmann to be on the trading blocks in 12 months. |

No offense taken. I think it's a fair point.
Still not sure where that leaves Casey, then, because if Herm gets the guys he wants on O-line this offseason, there's little stopping him from upgrading the center position next year if he wanted. Maybe for a low-rounder draft pick? Not sure. Of course, I've heard too that Edwards loves Weigmann, so I'm not sure he'll go anywhere. |

Thus far, I can only deduce that this is a rumor similar to Jason Dunn playing left tackle. I'd be willing to bet that if you went up to Herm or any other offensive assistants and asked them about this rumor they'd laugh in your face. There are about 30 other teams who would love to have Wiegmann at center. It would be nice if one of the journalists would bring this question up at the next press conference. |

B_Ambuehl, Wiegmann is perfectly suited for the offense the Chiefs have run the past 5 years. He's not suited for the offense they'll run beginning next year, a power running game with play action passing. I think the Chiefs would like to run the Bears offense and defense, only executing the offense much better. If those 30 teams would be willing to give up a draft pick, I think the Chiefs would be interested. |

Say the fans right? The problem is oftentimes the fans tend to know little about what they speak of. That is apparent if you look to the roots of the chicago offense. |
