He's the Seahawks Long Snapper

I guess they figure if they have an honest to goodness frenchman on the team they'll have a legit reason to surrender a horrid number of sacks...

We should go after Stan Darsh

Jean-Philippe Darche (born on February 28, 1975 in Montréal, Quebec) is an American football long snapper for the Seattle Seahawks. He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of McGill University. He is the older brother of former NHL left winger Mathieu Darche.

Sorry. Not going to work in the NFL.

...

Actually. Is there something going on with Gammon that I'm unaware of? He's not on the depth chart anymore.

We have a Perry guy there now.

What the hell's going on with our long-snapping?

I like it. It gets us younger in a big way.

I think so... plus if something bad happens, this guy can actually play in a game, where as Gammon would likely die.

Direckshun 03-04-2007 12:44 PM

According to the depth chart, Gammon's already been replaced by Ed Perry?

Careful now. The Chiefs does have history of changing players from their natural position to a completely different position.

And Ed Perry could easily be replaced by someone else.

Seems to me Perry was the guy that struggled a couple of years ago when Gammon was injured.

Most team message boards are talking about signing great players today... we are talking about a possible long snapper!!! God why did you make me a Chiefs fan?

Yeah, I think it was the Giants or Miami game that he struggled. I can't remember which one it was, but I do remember it.

You're right. The only reason that he's even on the depth chart is because he's under contract. Gammon's is not.

Sully 03-04-2007 12:53 PM

I'd like to keep Gammon, but obviously the Chiefs aren't calling my phone.

I can just see "Darche Bag" becoming a part of CP lexicon.

He has only been signing one year contracts... he's making like 850,000 a year! I like Gammon, but if we actually needed him in a game I wouldn't be surprised if he died

C'mon, Gammon's a 4th string TE behind Tony G, Dunn, and Bigfoot. We obviously don't need him in a game anymore than we'll need this 250 lb. center.

Long snappers should only be judged by long snapping, nothing else.

That said, Gammon's been completely removed from the depth chart. I didn't hear any wind whatsoever of Gammon retiring or being let go.

This takes me by surprise, and I consider it a big deal because Gammon's been top-notch for years.

I agree... but it would be better if this person had the ability to play in the NFL... With inactives... the LS has the chance to be important in games if the real center goes down

It would be awesome if kickers could be wideouts and QBs could also play safety, as well. But face it, the long snapper int he NFL is now just a specialized position like kicker that, if you want quality, you have to carry on the roster.

I don't find it very hard to ask your long snapper... a lineman... to be able to be a reserve lineman... Gammon would die... this guy atleast would be able to play. Asking a QB or wideout to play safety makes no sense... asking a lineman, to be able to be a lineman does

ChiefsCountry 03-04-2007 01:15 PM

LS is a specalized position now get over it. Every team has one.

I don't disagree... but they SHOULD be ABLE to be a RESERVE lineman

If it's an OL or DL with any upside, look at 'em. I'd rather see too many prospects coming through than too few.

Actually, long snappers aren't necessarily O-Linemen.

Bobby Bell was the Chiefs long snapper back in the day.

Jared Allen was one in school.

I don't know what position Gammon played in college, but he's listed at TE for the Chiefs, as was Adam Johnson, who was brought in to compete for the job last year.

Darche, at 246 lbs sure as hell isn't an O-Lineman.

Tight End is on the line the last time I checked... so is a DE... all i'm saying is that Gammon has no shot at ever being able to play in a game if somthing bad happend... this guy at least could put up a small fight

Why? The only thing longsnappers have with a lineman is they are on the line, the rest of their job has nothing to do with being a lineman.

Guess what, if your injury situation is so dire in one gme that you have to rely on a LS to play... then the difference between a below average guy and a way below average guy will never make a difference.

This is the pros, not high school.

The point is, in today's NFL if these guys had any potential to contribute at a position other than long snapper, they wouldn't be anymore than emegency long snappers.

They'd be playing other positions on the field, and some would not be DE or TE.

A good long snapper is money. Gammons must be on the way out.

Iowanian 03-04-2007 04:03 PM

IF it improves the team's punt coverages, I'm all for it.

Gammon is a trooper, but he's slower than Gochiefs getting down the field after a snap.

Moreover, I think the blocking TE (e.g., Jason Dunn) would be the emergency reserve well before the LS.
