NFL | Harrington heading to Canadian Football League?
Sun, 18 Mar 2007 08:01:35 -0700
Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League gained exclusive rights of free agent QB Joey Harrington (Dolphins) by placing his name on the team's negotiation list, according to the Toronto Star.

--Charlie Walters from TwinCites.com:

There's still a chance the Vikings could trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for veteran quarterback Trent Green in exchange for a low-round draft pick.

--Chicago Tribune:
"Sources say the Bears, in the wake of the Johnson sentencing, quietly expressed interest in re-signing defensive tackle Ian Scott. He is testing free agency after four seasons in Chicago and has been in talks with the Chiefs, Broncos and Vikings."

--Mike Vick opens his own winery/restaurant
ATLANTA - Michael Vick was enthusiastic about his new winery restaurant, but the Atlanta Falcons quarterback steered away from questions about other endeavors.

Vick spoke with the media Wednesday night at The Tasting Room in suburban Atlanta for the first time since being cleared of possible drug charges following an encounter in Miami with airport security.

Vick said he was excited about his first business partnership. He had little to say about his new head coach, Bobby Petrino, or football in general.

Yeah, maybe we can package a deal that would include Ryan Sims as well. The Vikings were just dying to get him during the draft, now they can have him after all.

If we actually followed the topic of this thread's intentions, there would probably only be two or three new threads a day.

Wile_E_Coyote 03-18-2007 10:04 AM

This place is strange that way. You can post a thread you think is interesting & get 2 replies. Then start a thread about the color of baby asprin & have it hit 100 responses

I actually have a twisted fascination with sending Trent to a team that comes to Arrowhead this year. I'd like his last crowd response in Arrowhead to be something other than boos, and if he could just get his name mentioned over the PA during pregame, he could go out on some cheers.

Vikings are visiting this year, so hey.

I wonder if the wine list at Vick's new place includes MD 20/20 and Thunderbird.....

Wile_E_Coyote 03-18-2007 10:34 AM

Can you have a cigar with your wine at Mike's place?

Wile_E_Coyote 03-18-2007 10:41 AM

It is all for his brother. When he is cut by the Fins he can go to Atlanta & stomp grapes for a living

CosmicPal 03-18-2007 10:59 AM

I love wine. But, I doubt I'd ever buy wine produced by someone who has more cornrows on his head then he does in his fields.

Veteran tailback Ron Dayne, who re-energized his slumping career with the Houston Texans in 2006, has reached agreement to return to the team after exploring options with other clubs during the first two weeks of the free agent signing period.

2006 SEASON STATISTICS

Dayne, 29, rushed for 612 yards and five touchdowns with the Texans in 2006. The rushing yards represented more than Dayne had amassed in the previous three seasons combined and were his most since 2001. In the previous four seasons, he averaged just 219.3 rushing yards.

The Texans signed Dayne late last summer, after he was released by Denver. They needed him to help fill the void created by the absence of starting tailback Domanick Davis (who has since changed his name to Domanick Williams), who was sidelined by a knee injury, and Dayne responded nicely, starting six games.

This year, however, Dayne will go to training camp as a role player. Houston signed former Green Bay star Ahman Green as an unrestricted free agent two weeks ago, and he is the acknowledged starter. Still, if Dayne can maintain the career momentum that he generated in 2006, he should be a solid complement to Green.

Houston head coach Gary Kubiak is familiar with Dayne from their stint together in Denver, and seems to know how to get the best out of him.

The decision by Dayne to re-sign with the Texans came after he visited earlier this week with Philadelphia Eagles officials. The opportunity in Philadelphia closed on him when the Eagles decided to re-sign Correll Buckhalter as the backup to Brian Westbrook, and so Dayne opted to return to Houston for at least another year.

Details of the contract he will sign there were not yet available.

The former University of Wisconsin star, and Heisman Trophy winner in 1999, was the first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2000 draft. He started 11 games in his first two seasons with the Giants, and he averaged 730 rushing yards in 2000-2001, but then suffered through four straight unproductive seasons. He left the Giants after the 2004 season and signed with the Broncos in 2005.

For his career, Dayne has rushed for 2,949 yards and 22 touchdowns on 789 carries. Dayne has appeared in 83 games, 20 as a starter.

ESPN to Televise Rock Paper Scissors League

One of the gags in the movie Dodgeball is that dodgeball is such a low-profile sport that it's televised by ESPN8 ("The Ocho"). But if ESPN can find room on its schedule for rock paper scissors, as the Miami Herald reports, dodgeball can't be far behind.

Yes, there's actually something called the USA Rock Paper Scissors League, and it's actually reached an agreement with ESPN to show its championships on television.

As With Leather points out, there are two keys to the success of the RPS League: One is that they've gotten a sponsorship agreement with Bud Light, and the other is that they've got something called the RPS Girls. ESPN seems to be calculating that if you mix in beer and women, you can get the network's target demographic to watch paint dry.
