If Miami won't give the 4th

Trade Trent somewhere else for a lower pick, just not to Miami. They can't go to bat with Carl and beat the hell out of him like appears is going to happen.

Fire Me Boy! 04-29-2007 09:25 AM

Maybe this could have gone in one of the 74 other Trent/Miami/4th Rounder threads?

chief52 04-29-2007 09:25 AM

Trent holds the cards because he does not have to renegotiate and no one is going to take him if he won't. He has already agreed with Miami if reports are correct.

blueballs 04-29-2007 09:26 AM

why is Trent not insulted

Fire Me Boy! 04-29-2007 09:28 AM

He's not insulted because he knows this time of year it's just business.

jAZ 04-29-2007 09:28 AM

I'm thinking Miami *might* trade down in the 4th (or even into the 5th) in order to keep their shot at Trent...

KC kid 04-29-2007 09:28 AM

I agree. If I am Trent Green, I am, all of a sudden, not so excited to play for a team that will not even give up a 4th round pick for me. I would suspect Miami is just trying to play hard ball at the wrong time. They have already proved how stupid they are with this 07 draft.

blueballs 04-29-2007 09:32 AM

Why would he care...........the better deal the team he's going to gets the better chance they have to be better.....not everyone gauges their value in what they go for.....

I think he wants to be in Miami regardless and really doesn't care.

The Dolphins passed on Green for a guy with 12 starts

Problem is......alot of teams won't wanna pay the 7 mill, and if he's unwilling to renegotiate with them he almost picks where he goes....

Like Moss did by being willing to change for the Pats but not other teams.

Codered 04-29-2007 09:47 AM

Okay besides Miami and possibly the Vikes who would trade for him? Detroit selected Stanton and has Kitna for a one year stop gap. The Browns took Quinn and have Frye.

It's more than likely take Miami's 6th or 7th or release the guy. Miami played hard ball.

That would be funny. Get Cleveland on the phone.

Or just keep Trent and let him compete for his job. I for one would like to see him start for us again... if he's OK.

True you might as well let the Browns finish the job on the Chiefs this draft. :)

Nobody other than Miami is going to trade for Green because he has a 7.25 million base salary.

Trent holds all the cards as has been stated earlier. If I were the Dolphins I would not give anything for him. The Chiefs will release him and then he will go to Miami. The only thing the Dolphins gain by giving up a draft pick now is that they get Green earlier. Trent can pick and choose who he will renegotiate for and it appears Miami is the only one he will consider.

doomy3 04-29-2007 09:59 AM

This is what Rotoworld said this morning:

Trent Green-QB- Chiefs Apr. 29 - 10:18 am et

The Dolphins reportedly aren't enamored by the Chiefs' lowered asking price for Trent Green of a second-round pick to a fourth-rounder.

Still, the sides want to get a deal done on Sunday, so they should be able to work something out. The 'Fins could offer their sixth-rounder in addition to multiple seventh-rounders because they currently have three.

Does this mean that the Fins will give up a 6th AND multiple 7ths?

There's no reason we HAVE to release him. Sure, it would make sense if we did since we want to move on and let Croyle get some reps, but we won't be over the cap if we hold on to him.

At this point, I am fine with keeping Green this year and letting him ride the pine. This has been a ridiculous ordeal with him thinking he can orchestrate where he wants to go.

Team chemistry is going to be a bitch when Green outplays everyone at QB but then gets bumped for Brodie because Herm wants to make a youth movement.

chiefsfan1963 04-29-2007 10:01 AM

Did CP go on record that he would take a 4th rounder for Trent? We have no idea if it was even being considered. As far as I can tell we wanted a 2nd rounder or we were going to keep him.

As I said in another Thread we will need next year's draft and another round of free agency to fill our needs. If we're lucky we'll have Top 10 or 15. AND we'll have pick in every round!

The Dolphins didn't cough up a 4th for Green (a decision that I commend them for).

Carl will not release him and let the Dolphins get him for free.

blackhawk 04-29-2007 10:02 AM

send trent to cleveland for next years 6th round pick!

I think Miami did the right thing......I wouldn't have given up the 4 either.

Why? Anyone with a brain can see this team is rebuilding, why waste time with a near 40 year old at QB when we have a young kid that is ready to take over.

Paying Green his contract and letting him ride the pine with no plan of using him would be one of the dumbest moves in Chief history.

They will release him if that can not get anything for him. That is the nature of contracts in the NFL. He has very little value as everyone knows how much his contract is and that that Chiefs do not plan on using him.

Why would Miami give KC a fourth?

That is exactly why you do not keep Green. In one post you want to keep Green and in the next you state why he will be gone.

Direckshun 04-29-2007 10:11 AM

Just take the 6th and walk away.

So it's better to get raped on the compensation? We have an asset that we would like to sell, but we haven't received a fair offer. That doesn't mean you just give it away - you hold on to it until you receive a deal you can live with.

He has value in that he can help tutor Croyle. He has more value to a team that will let him start, but he needs to be willing to restructure his deal to make that happen.

Because they will be getting a starting QB, and they have shown in the past that they are willing to give much more than a 4th for a potential starting QB (Feeley, Culpepper).

doomy3 04-29-2007 10:15 AM

Would you guys rather take a 6th and maybe a 7th this year or take a 5th in next years draft?

6th and 7th this year. I'd like to see as many young prospects injected into this team as possible. It's rebuilding time.

Direckshun 04-29-2007 10:20 AM

Trent will be worth even less next year.

Beck will have a year's experience and Trent will be a year older.

Just take the 6th and run.

How can we "live with" keeping him and paying him? The Chiefs should literally consider releasing him if he isn't going to start. To me that says just get something for him. I was hoping for a 4th, but a 5th sounds reasonable.

The fins don't have a 5th this year. That's why I mentioned maybe taking their 5th next year.

Ditto. You tried to hold out for some fair value and it didn't happen. Don't screw yourself out of getting any compensation at all...

Brock 04-29-2007 10:24 AM

The chiefs can keep him on the roster until the final cut down day. If Miami wants him, they need to put up reasonable compensation. If they don't want to do that, they can wait until late August to have him.

I would be fine with a 5th too - but what if Miami only offers a 7th? Do we just take their best offer, even if it is embarrassingly low, or do we hold on to him this season?

If they know we will cut him before the season, what is the incentive for giving up any picks for him?

rad 04-29-2007 10:25 AM

I think a 6th and 7th this year, and a conditional (starts more than 6 games) 3rd next year is fair.

He'll never be ready unless he starts getting playing time. Might as well throw him in at some point this year, as we probably won't be a playoff contender.

Extra Point 04-29-2007 10:27 AM

The smokescreen out of Miami worked for the 'phins. We came out of the first three rounds rolling the bones. I hope our squad can keep their noses clean off the field. Not addressing the CB position may come back to haunt us.

Trent is the team leader. The team doesn't have many leaders, which is part of the problem. The coaches can't treat the team leader like crap and expect respect from the rest of the players.

Team leader? He was more of the mouthpiece for Vermeil/Saunders than anything else. And most of the guys he played with are gone...

Don't give me too much credit. He seems to have been pretty injury prone in college. A little bulk with what our offensive line is now couldn't hurt.
