I think you can get antibiotics for that.

Antifreeze?
Damn it took 5 posts... |
Sinus infections suck. Don't get cheap nasel spray to clear out your nostrils....I did and ended up going to the hospital for it. Blood kept coming out of my nose.

I think you have to shoot it.

longer term antibiotics (meaning more than 5-7 days), antihistamines so you make less crap in there and decongestants to loosen it up so you can hack and blow the crap out of the holes in your head. Takes long term treatment because it's harder for the drugs to get in there to do their job.

First in with the "Stab it in the face " reference

redefining the term "thread killer"? |
Last year I got a bad one during a weekend when we flew to Syracuse for my wife's grandmother's 90th birthday. If you think sinus infections are bad on the ground, try one in a fucking airplane with pressure changes. I felt like ass all weekend, and the only thing that made the pain go away was standing in the shower with the water as hot as I could stand it blasting me right in the forehead. No getting comfortable, no getting sleep, just burning, painful pressure. It was bad enough that the over-the-counter stuff barely even put a dent in it. At least my wife's family was cool about it and didn't give me any grief about skipping all the festivities - I just hid in the hotel. I have a reasonably high pain threshold, but bad sinus infections just knock my dick in the dirt.
Then, on the way back, the flight was delayed because of shitty weather in Chicago. We sat on the tarmak for 3 1/2 hours before taking off, and there was a screaming brat two rows behind me. THEN the plane had to return to the gate to refuel. THEN the joy of the flight itself. God, what a horrible weekend that was. :cuss: |
DOUBLE DOSE O TYLENOL `SINUS`.

consider me there then. Monticrisco white churchill (not bad, crisp and clean) on my third glass of crown and seven just polished off some leftover smoked brisket and playing two freeroll hold'em tourneys while chatting with some good people on the planet. |

Sorry to hear that... but as a pilot, I would advise not flying with a sinus infection.... The Cabin is only pressurized to 8000 ft... IF there was a rapid decompression, you would of probably, no actually your inner ears would of ruptured.... Any problem with the pressurazation system and you could of experienced some extreme pain... Damn Pilots, they were probably at the bar trying to pay their bar tab before the flight... |

Ok, so my wife gets bad sinus infections. She has an old wives' remedy. She swears by it, but you gotta have some courage.
She gets betadine, puts it in a cup, traps it in a straw, leans her head back and drops it into her nose. She traps it and doesn't let it travel down her throat, leans left to right then drains it out of her nose. It burns, she says, but she repeats it several times. Anyway, it's not as big of a deal (the treatment) as it might seem. If we have any sinus stuff, kids included, she has us do it. Well, there it is, enjoy it. If you want more info about it, PM me and I will ask her for more directions. |
F that, boss
|
LOL....I gotcha. Yes, she is sinister, but i love her.
|
It may be god forsaking you.
Repent, heathen sinner. |
I'm trying dude. My correction......My wife pouring betadine down my schnoz.
|
Colloidal Silver in nasal spray form will do the trick. You may need to take some probiotics after it clears up. Grapefruit seed extract in capsule form also works. Both of these kill Bacteria, Parasites and Viruses. As a side note i had this nasal thing last week, 2 squirts in both nostrils the 1st day then repeated the 2nd day and voila 95% better the 3rd day and gone the 4th.
|
OK. Do you want REAL medical advice? There are two types of sinus infections? Bacterial or viral. Viral= water and rest... bacterial= antibiotics and rest. BOTH need plenty of water but a viral infection clears in 1-3 days... and if it lasts longer... you need antibiotics.... if your GP prescribes amoxicillian tell him/her FARCK OFF and get AUGMENTIN... it is a MUCH broader more powerful form that will clear it within 2 days ... BUT you still need to keep up treatment for the full 10 days.
|
btw.. I come from a family of pharmacists.. this is actual advice... take it for what it is worth

Which is why I always try and keep a narcotic pill or two stashed away for rainy days like this one....when I had my stones they loaded me up with Oxycodone and Hydromorphone you bet you sweet nipple ring I put a few of those suckers away for "pain emergencies" |
I suffer from chronic sinusitis, and sinus infections can come and go several times a year for me. If it is a viral infection, no medication will help it. It just has to run it's course. Bacterial on the other hand can last for months at a time if not treated properly, and can in rare cases spread to your brain pan. I'd suggest seeing your doctor as soon as you possibly could. Normally a 7 day, 1 a day, strong antiboitic along with a steriod and decongestant is prescribed.
Things you can do to relieve some of the pressure, sitting in a steamy shower several times a day for 15-20mins per. Gotta get those juices flowing and out of there. A rotating regimen of Tylenol and Ibuprofen to help mask the pain and headaches. Menthalatum under the nose will help relieve pressure and headaches. |

eff that, see post 43...beg the doc for something as "weak" as percocet |

In all seriousness. The only way I ever got rid of one was going to the doctor and getting a prescription for anti-biotics.
|
The best way to get rid of a sinus infection is to get a prescription for Levaquin.
|
Quote:
On that note, if you're serious about getting rid of a bacterial sinus infection, get a cycle of Prednisone with your antibiotic. DO NOT use over-the-counter nose sprays for more than 2 days. The active ingredient in Afrin will help initially, but longer term use actually induces swelling, which will make things worse. If you have chronic sinus infections and would like to avoid surgery (I ended up having to have the surgery and I'm glad I did) search your area for ENT doctors doing a procedure called "chemical cautery". No, it doesn't involve burning, but it does work for alot of people. |
By the way, viruses can cause conditions like acute sinusitis and rhinitis, but a true sinus infection is almost always bacterial.

GO TO THE DOCTOR. |
One must silently and carefully track the sinus infection while remaining downwind, Mr. Laz. It is important to remember that one must have a keen knowledge of both the topography and the sinus infection's behavior patterns. Be alert for signs such as footprints, spoor, and disturbances in the sinus infection's habitat. Once the sinus infection has been spotted, find cover, remain silent and prepare your nosespray quietly without disturbing any nearby nosehairs or buggers which could alarm the sinus infection. Then, blast the sinus infection in the heart or head. Should your first shot only wound the sinus infection, follow it quickly using the blood trail. The sinus infection will eventually weaken and you can apply the kill shot at close range.

And I hate to disagree here, but you are wrong on Augmentin... it is very effective at treating sinus infections. Levaquin and Biaxin are SLIGHTLY more effective but only by a matter of a few percentage points. |

I get one at least once a year,I've got some serious bad allergies, like Fraz said get your ass to the doctor and to echo what Kyle said DO NOT stop taking the meds just because the infection seems to have cleared.

I have a dust allergy and I get a couple of sinus infections per year.
I combine a humidifier at night with vapo rub and then use a saline rinse during the day. I have not been to a doctor in two years and I have not been on any prescriptions during the same two year period. |
