Wow! Just took a look at the Sprint Center web site.

I moved away from my beloved KC about two and a half years ago just
as they were starting construction.

Now,I am watching a replay of the Brigade game, and wondered if this
game was at Kemper or the Sprint Center.

The site says that it will be finished in 101 days.Is there anyone who works in that area of town who can confirm this?

It looks like an awesome arena.I am betting that the NCCA will be begging KC to showcase some basketball there.

Anyway,I was just curious to know if the actual arena looks anything
like the concept drawings on Sprint's website.

Suck it St.Loser!

Eh, it don't look like that. Well, kinda. But it doesn't look as majestic. Looks pretty crappy.

I don't really agree with this at all. It looks pretty damn nice.

Not like in the picture. Plus I'm just not a big fan of the futuristic look.

It will never look as good as the conceptual rendering.

Is it the same design though?

Bob Dole 07-01-2007 01:52 AM

Bob Dole has a friend who owns a store near the Sprint Center, and he says it's really starting to pick up in the area.

It's about time that some of that OP money started flowing back
into an area that deserves it.

Bob Dole can't remember the name of the artsy area they were located in previously, but they seem to be very happy with the new location they've chosen.

Apparently they've been building up some word-of-mouth clientele. When Bob Dole talked to Clint last Tuesday, Keyaron Fox was the latest Chiefs repeat customer. (He likes to buy shoes.)

Took a small downtown trip the other day and came away with this. Sprint center on the left, Kansas City Star building on the right.

That's the joy of a downtown arena that I think most people don't think about... you'll be parking a mile or so away

That game was still at Kemper, but they'll be playing at the Sprint Center next season.

Wow, they need to throw a coat or two of paint on those overpasses. They look like they were built in the stone ages.

I've heard rumblings that the Missouri Valley Conference might yank their b-ball tourney from St. Louis and play it there.

QuikSsurfer 07-01-2007 10:23 AM

heard a rumor that Elton John would be one of the first artist performing in the arena. anyone else heard this?

Simplex3 07-01-2007 10:35 AM

The new stadium in Chicago looks like a spaceship landed on Soldier Field.

This one looks like a spaceship landed in a backwater convenience store's toilet bowl after the 350lb attendant just got done disposing of three burritos.

WoodDraw 07-01-2007 10:46 AM

There is parking everywhere surrounding the SC. The distance walked will most likely be about the same you walk from the parking lot in Arrowhead to your seat. I've never understood the whole parking scare. Do people just assume there is no parking downtown?

is that 70 or 35 in the picture?

|Zach| 07-01-2007 11:35 AM

70

Dr. Johnny Fever 07-01-2007 11:38 AM

I think the place looks cool as hell, but does anyone know why some of the outer glass is clear and some isn't? Is that a design thing? The randomness of it seems a little odd.

i think it's 70 too. got lost goin to a game once and ended up by the star. coulda swore it was on 70

Dr. Johnny Fever 07-01-2007 12:26 PM

It's 70. The Star building is on 70. The pic is taken from 35 it looks like... but the highway in the pic is 70.

Jilly 07-01-2007 12:27 PM

I've been down there lately and it has picked up. Went to Grinders for a concert and couldn't even find space to park...and the streets were full of people. Went by a bar near the Center on the way home (willy's?) and it was packed. I'm freaking ecstatic because I've always wanted our city to be more than it was there for a while.

I stand corrected then, last time I was there I had the family with tme and they were much more concerned about where to go to eat than looking at the Sprint Center!

I've read there's going to be over 7000 parking spaces within walking distance of the arena, which probably includes the 1200 spaces underneath the H&R Block building and the 6-story parking garage at 1201 Walnut.

Demonpenz 07-01-2007 01:40 PM

I hope it is a safer place than kemper

It's actually 670, which is the south side of the loop.
