Here's the old entrance to an old Soviet Base called Tok Mok. There's still a small town just beyond this sign. I don't have any pictures - maybe one of the other guys got some... but very very below the poverty line......

I'm told that there was/is skiing... but I highly doubt any of us would be allowed to go do it. Even some of their "foothills" look like they might be black diamond trails LOL. I also haven't seen/heard anything about actual ski resorts. So I'm thinking... it's carry your gear as high as you want to go and ski down.

Nope... I haven't had an adult beverage since I left Rapid City. Services will sell 2 beers (only during certain times of the day of course).... but I hate beer. yuck. Anyway... personnel are only allowed 2 every 24 hour period and if they get caught accepting someone elses drink - they can get an article 15. The person that gives/leaves the beer for someone WILL get an article 15.

If you use a magnifying glass.... there's a horse at the top of the ridge. He kept running up one ridge and down the other... finally we saw the guy that was chasing him. On foot.

Here's where the young stallion decided to come down and join us. The guy on foot gave up trying to catch him shortly after this. Our guide told us, "not wild, just not broke".

This picture was what we saw when we came up over one of the ridges headed off of the mountains. After they finished changing their tire... they started the truck with a HAND CRANK! (See the hole in the front of the truck??)

Damn, 11 hours ahead. Damn near on the other side of the world from here. If I start digging you wanna meet up for lunch?

Bring me some real food and I'll start digging! ;)

as a side note.... in this reduced version of the picture - you can't see the hole where the hand crank fits into the truck. But it was something else... let me tell ya.

One of the stable bridges that we crossed. Those are skinny pieces of rebar (sp?) holding the "logs" in place. Most of them didn't exceed 3" diameter.

A very important sign for those of us on base..............
