Priest Holmes and the NFI list

POSTED 10:41 a.m. EDT, September 2, 2007

CHIEFS HAD NO CHOICE IN PUTTING PRIEST ON NFI

A league source explains to us that the Kansas City Chiefs were required by rule to put running back Priest Holmes on the non-football injury list. Even though he is still recovering from an actual football injury, the fact that the injury wasn't suffered in 2007 or in 2006 makes it, by definition, a non-football injury.

The source says that Holmes' status is "the same thing" as if he were on the Physically Unable to Perform list. If so, this means that Holmes must miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Though teams are not required to pay players who are on the NFI list, the source says that Holmes will receive his weekly game checks.

So since he's not on the PUP list, does this mean he can participate in team drills and practice?

stevieray 09-03-2007 10:41 AM

he's earned every dime.

Perhaps, but the dog and pony show is getting a little old.

NFI?

He was injured DURING A GAME.

Maybe they ruled that his injury was really caused by Merriman's steroid supplier in Tiajuana.

I've watched that play a few times recently, and you can see how hard SM hit him becuase SM's head recoils form the helmet to helmet hit.

Both Green and Holmes taken out on illegal hits. Still pisses me off. I swear, sometimes I'm convinced that the NFL is still screwing Lamar over for the AFL.

Notice the other night on HK's, Lamar was shown calling the Chiefs "Mid -America's Team"..and then viola!...the Cowboys become "America's Team"

The media is only telling the story, they're not creating it. I personally think it's wrong for him to show up at TC saying he's going to try to come back when he really has no intentions of doing so. It's obvious at this point that it's all about money. I don't understand why the financial aspects of this can't be worked out without jerking around with the fan's emotions.

There are plenty of players the media don't talk to...they are creating it.

I don't feel jerked around, if he comes back.. awesome, if he can't, thanks for trying...

I can't believe that one the greatest to wear a Chiefs uni gets so much disrespect...that guy brought more excitement to Arrowhead than I've ever experienced...yet he's thrown under the bus, like his worth never really mattered.

Yep. He has been one of the greatest Chiefs ever. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Crashride 09-03-2007 12:47 PM

But what about his dream!!! :p

ArrowheadHawk 09-03-2007 01:03 PM

keep f'n doubting priest

gta0012 09-03-2007 01:48 PM

I wish i could find where i read it but i think priest can practice with the squad. Can PUP practice? Also he wasn't practicing during pre-season because the chiefs decided to wait and discuss his condition. Wasn't an NFL rule that said he couldn't

Yeah, but he was on the PUP list for preseason, and now he's on this other list.

i believe he can't practice until week 3 .....

then the team has 3 weeks of practice to see if they want to active the player, IR or cut them.

boogblaster 09-03-2007 03:14 PM

Trust me, I'd rather remember him that way, but the longer this goes on the more likely I'm going to remember him as a guy who tried to squeeze the team for every dollar he could. Plenty of great players leave the game without this much drama.

Nah, I rarely watch ESPN. If anything I'm just a bit too cynical to see this any other way.

Are we going RB-BC this year? With talent like LJ, Bennet, and Priest, I don't think it would be all that bad of an idea.
