And 34 points is Crazy Football!! FAX |
I hate Herm Edwards.
|
Good. So we're shooting for somewhere between 3 & 21. 2 defensive TD's and a field goal and we're GOLDEN!
|
oh noes....meltdown in 5...4...3..
|
What a total jackass.
|
Holy Crap! This is awesome!
Herm is a Football Genius! Welcome to 1989 folks... Football has officially passed the Chiefs by..... |
I swear he reads this place and then just fans the flames.

This guy is a freaking loser....
Why couldnt of we hired a "real" football coach.... Damn you Carl! :cuss: |
So that's why we signed Bobby Sippio.
|
I imagine his big point is...
If you are scoring 30 your defense isn't playing all that hot. |

I printed it off.. I have to read it to one of my uncles that thinks Herm is a HOF type football coach.... This totally made my day! |

Besides this is the internet, to modern for Herm. |
I guess the Colts are a kickass arena team with a title.

Real football teams have balance.
For a HC to come out and say scoring 30 points a game isn't real football is sickening. I would love to see a stat of teams that have scored 30 points over the years and what their winning % was. Scoring 21 points a game is making zero margin for error with a defense. You have to play defense, but having a great scoring offense never hurt either. |
I'm not even sure Herm has ever understood that if you score MORE points then the other team you win the game.

Just like the comment about outscoring the opponent on the road. Everyone knows what he meant (you don't want to get into a shootout.....ball control, keep crowd out of it) yet everyone rags on him. Like no one here has ever said something that came out different than how they thought they were saying it...... |

If the defense is playing well, the offense has the ball more often and in better field position. If the offense has the ball more often and in better field position, the likelihood of scoring points increases, does it not? FAX |

Yeah, All those damn superbowl champions that blew out there opponents or believed in winning the game by scoring too fast and too often... This is another reason while Herm is teh suck! |

Keep that up, Fax, and we'll start calling you Logical. |

o noes ..... wouldn't want to do that!!! |
Just for the record, we scored 30 or more points in just over 31% of our games last season. 31. Clearly, Herm's comments are some kind of subliminal message about Priest Holmes, but I'm not sure what it is.

Oddly enough, watching New Orleans stomp the crap out of KC in preseason week 3, 30-7, didn't much FEEL like watching an Arena League game.

New Orleans was just monkeying around, Mr. Bob Dole. We were playing real football.

Herm's a defensive coach.
Welcome to yesterday. It's obvious that he's the antithesis of Dick Vermiel. And while I hate the fact that he tinkered with something that wasn't broken I realize we shouldn't have to score 30 points to win football games. I honestly think we'll do well if we can post 21 points from game to game. |

Herm's the kind of guy who on the first day of college philosophy, was assigned a project on Kant, and automatically blocked out every other form of philosophy he would subsequently be exposed to. He's catastrophically stupid. |

Yeah, genious, that's exactly what he's saying. Defense wins championships. If you have a good defense, you don't NEED to score 30ppg. The last 10 Super Bowl Champs allowed 15.1 points per game. Which means they would have only need to score 16 a game to win. Hell, we averaged a shade over 20 last year. Would 30 points per game be nice? Sure. Will we NEED 30 ppg? Nope. Unless DV's been named coach and I've missed it...... |

It's Marty Ball. We can win by putting 7 points on the board. LJ is the Chiefs.

Well, if you look at the actual stats from last year Herm may be on to something. We scored and average of 20.7 points per game while giving up an average of 19.7 points per game. So, I think what he's trying to say is 21 pnts per game basically equals a perfect season. On average that is. So, we've got...uh...er... what I'm trying to say.....I mean what Herm's trying to say is 21 pnts a game = CHAMPIONSHIP.
It's all in the math people. |

Your best shot of winning is with a top 8 O and a top 15 D. |

5.5 points per game. Even counting the scrubs, we only gave up 17ppg. |
In 2005, Herm got all pissed about us running up the score against his Jets, like it was unsportsmanlike or something. I think he really believes that there is shame in scoring too many points.
|
He seriously needs to stop talking, 21 points is alot??? wtf

And we have a running game this year. We'll see, I like the hard schedule. |
This just makes me think of that thread about "you KNEEL to win the game" where if you kneel down to stop the clock at least two times in the game your odds of winning are HUGE. (sigh)

That transcript isn't complete.
"That's when you score every time you get the football, you score. We're talking about real football. 21 points is a lot of points." |
I'm all for "defense wins championships", but like someone said, not scoring "a lot" of points per game gives the defense little room for error.
Besides scoring these insane amount of points, these teams also average a touchdown more than their opponents per game... and if you take Atlanta out, it's 8.5. You don't win championships by beating your opponents by a point a game; aka "playing not to lose". 2006 Indianapolis 26.7 offense PPG / 22.6 defense PPG Chicago 26.7 (23.2 without defense/special teams) / 15.9 New Orleans 25.8 / 20.1 New England 24.1 / 14.8 2005 Seattle 28.3 / 16.9 Denver 24.7 / 16.1 Carolina 24.4 / 16.2 Pittsburgh 24.3 / 16.1 2004 New England 27.3 / 16.3 Pittsburgh 23.3 / 15.7 Philadelphia 24.1 / 16.3 Atlanta 21.3 / 21.1 Averages Offense - 25 PPG Defense - 17 PPG |
Quote:
To win a football game you need to look at the averages. You should AVERAGE more than 20 points per game, and hold opponents under 20 points per game. When you score 20 or more, you should win unless your defense sucks. Your GOAL should be to score at LEAST 21 points per game. At LEAST. Even with a good defense, saying '21 is a lot of points' is why Herm will never coach a dominant team. Ever. |

Not one of those teams NEEDED a Top 8 offense. Hell, they didn't need a Top 15 offense. They needed to score 16 points per game. 16 points. That's it. Just because some of those teams had circus offenses, doesn't mean they needed the output. Sure, it was fun to watch, but in the end, they could have won with a average offense. Almost to a team, defense wins Championships. In the history of the Super Bowl, only TWO teams have ever made the game (not WON the game, just MADE the game) by allowing over 20 ppg. The 1983 Oakland Raiders The 2006 Indianapolis Colts. |
Quote:
11 of the last 18 teams to win a Super Bowl had an offense that ranked 3rd or higher in points. 6 of the last 18 teams to lead the NFL in points won the Bowl. I'd like to know how many of those teams made it to the Super Bowl by averaging less than the league average for PPG.... Anyone, anyone....Buehler??? 1. If your 16ppg thesis is correct, then why did every team who won...save 1 average well over 20, with a low of just less than 19 (The Bucs). |
|
Herm Edwards outdoes himself...
Just wondering...who are the top 5 teams in the NFL -- the favorites to win the SB? Perhaps NE, SD, Indy, Cinci, and NO? And what are the top 5 offenses in the league? Hmmmm.... |
Heh,that should help the rest of those remaining tickets sell out.
