Jared Allen ain't going no where

King Carl just said on 38 the spot Jared Allen is going to be a Chief next year even if they have to tag him. He said he gave him 2.5 million this year and he has earned every penny so far duh.

HemiEd 10-16-2007 06:14 PM

Who didn't know that?

Jack Harry said Carl Peterson is a douchebag, and he hopes Carl steps on a crack and breaks his mother's back.

Vegas_Dave 10-16-2007 06:15 PM

Duh from the aspect of we all knew that already.

Who else would they tag? JA is turning into a great player and well worth dropping good money on. Carl will play his normal games, hes a businessman and thats what he does. But JA will realize that if he wants to get PAID, it will be at the Chiefs terms.

Pay the man. It kinds seems that quite a few d-linemen go downhill a little after a big payday. I would bet a lot that JA isn't one of those types. Pay him long time

10 million for one year is what they said.

Bwana 10-16-2007 06:18 PM

That's nice and all Carl, but step up and pay the man. Allen can still choose to holdout if you low ball him. The guy has earned a fat check and goes 110% on every play. Perhaps he can share his secret with our Douch bag overpaid RB.

The way they talked Allen doesn't even want to talk new deal till after the season he knows his price tag goes up each game he has Carl by the balls.

Deberg_1990 10-16-2007 06:22 PM

Pass rushing DE's are one of the most precious and cherished positions in all of football. Especially one in his prime.

Not in a million years would they let JA walk.

TE/FB Kris Wilson (UFA) <---- resigns $3 mil/3 years
OT Chris Terry (UFA) <---- SOL
OT Kyle Turley (UFA) <---- SOL
C Casey Wiegmann (UFA) <---- SOL
DL Jared Allen (UFA) <---- franchise tag, holdout, big payday
DL Jimmy Wilkerson (UFA) <---- resign vet min
LB Keyaron Fox (UFA) <---- resign $3 mil/3 years

Yep. JA might be having his best season yet in a contract year but nonetheless he has always been a player that plays until the whistle. He always gives it his all. Plus, he already had 27.5 sacks his first 3 years so it's not like he was a slouch before this year. I think he is a player that will continue to perform.

RealSNR 10-16-2007 10:12 PM

We're not going to pay someone who would basically be a back up on any other team that kind of jack. We should be able to sign him for the vet min, or maybe a little over.

I'm as big as King Carl basher as they come but I can't fault king Carl for this. They pay JA big bucks and he goes out and gets another DUI they are screwed. That would be his 4th. JA would get serious jail time. A guy here in KC got 15 years in jail for his 5th DUI yesterday.

No need to pay him now either. His value is as high as its going to get right now. If he keeps his nose clean pay him in the off season.

ceebz 10-17-2007 07:44 AM

I would consider abandoning this team if they were dumb enough to let Allen walk. The Edwards and Horn decisions have made it hard enough to have confidence in Carl's ability to keep talent in KC.... Allen would be the final straw.

Who says he wants to resign? Carl said some very nasty things to him in his last round of contract talks. This has John Tait written all over it as the Chiefs might not have the money to resign him (LJ eating up cash and a large debt to service on the renovation).

I said that exact same thing in another previous thread. Carl should be negotiating NOW with Allen's agent, but Carl would rather pay JA the measley $2.5 mil now than upping the ante and we run the risk of losing him or pissing him off. Even if we franchise him we can still LOSE him if another team is willing to give up draft picks. Carl really sucks at building a complete team. I wish this ass clown would leave already.

You are assuming quite a bit. What inside info do you have that Carl isn't negotiating right now? Did he say we're not signing Allen to long term deal we're franchising him? Like the title of this thread says, Allen isn't leaving. He'll be a Chiefs next year and most likely for several more.

BigChiefFan 10-17-2007 10:54 AM

They also can structure contracts to work in their favor like a poisin pill or by giving all the money upfront. I'm sure there are some teams that would actually consider giving up picks for a premier DE going into their prime. JA is the real deal.

The main point is, if you already KNOW you are going to sign him long-term why wait and give teams an opportunity to set the pricetag for his services and or attempt to sign him away from us?

It's more in a long line of reasons why Carl is still an incompetent boob 19 years later.

Just because JA can be franchised doesn't mean that they don't risk losing him. He's already made noises that he doesn't want to be here in KC. He can holdout. He can sit out the year if he has too. This is not college. His agent can loan him millions if he as too.

But it will probably go like Tony G's holdout in 2001-2? did. JA wants the big time deal. King carl refuses and franchises him. JA says FU I'm not reporting to camp. Long and nasty holdout ensues. 2-3 games into the season a long term deal gets done.

Some factors to consider.
  • This is JA's agent first big time FA contract. The agent ses this as his big oppertunity to land more big time NFL clients he's not going to allow a hometown discount
  • JA develops an attitude towards King Carl and the FO and leaves ala...Tait

I really doubt He'll sit out a year to spite the Chiefs. I haven't heard any rumblings lately that he hates it here have you? Maybe he's patched everything up? The Chiefs will offer him as much as other teams will, it might be a little more or less but it'll be what he deserves.

BigChiefFan 10-17-2007 11:07 AM

No. I have NINETEEN years of watching the same man do the same thing over and over again. You don't throw out the franchise tag to the public if you are close in sides, besides that, Carl doesn't work that way. Carl will wait until the offseason to save a buck now.

Again, did he say the Chiefs are going to franchise him? You're right I'll bet there is a long way to go before both sides are in agreement, but I'll bet anything they're talking.

There's the idea again that somehow Carl is cheap. Look I hate Carl, he's so full of himself it makes me sick, and he's not always the best judge of talent, it's best if he left that to the coaches, I wish he were gone, but I know he's a good negotiator, I've seen it over the same nineteen years you have. I trust him with getting a good deal, and spreading the money around wisely. Say what you will about him, when he really wants to get something done as far as player acquisition or retention it gets done, and it strikes me that he wants to have Allen here.

You take a pretty fair approach, but John Tait throws a wrinkle in your argument about keeping a player we want to keep.

Also, Carl may or may not have made a phone call to Allen's agent, but I truly doubt that they are in heated discussions about working out the numbers. Carl doesn't roll that way, he would rather save the money now.

I was thinking about the Tait move, that does go against what I said. But if you remember, the Chiefs had the transition tag on Tait, they took a gamble that no one would pay what it would cost to sign him. The Bears offered a deal that was ridiculous, it was top LT money and at that time Tait was only our RT, you don't pay a RT top LT money. I remember saying wow! If they want Tait that badly they can have him, I think everyone felt that way.

Nightfyre 10-17-2007 12:08 PM

There is no reason for Carl to use the F-tag word unless he is in negotiations currently.

The principle is still the same only the compensation goes up.

We would have to pay JA more AND teams would have to offer more in higher round picks-it's a double-edged sword that effects both current team and the propositional team.

In other words, JA's price tag goes up for us with the franchise tag compared to the transition tag. That's less wiggle room for free agents, because he woud count against the cap at a ONE year deal with huge money.

That's exactly why I'm stressing Carl should get off his duff and get this done PRIOR to the offseason.

According to wikipedia (which is never incorrect, :) ), teams can make a player an "exclusive franchise player" and no other team can negotiate with that player.
