Major Sports Championships You've Attended

Poll Forthcoming...

Buck 12-01-2007 04:18 PM

I didn't know what else to add. But I've been to both the World Series (1998 Yankees @ Padres Game 3)

And the Stanley Cup (2003 Devils @ Ducks Game 3)

RJ 12-01-2007 04:18 PM

You forgot "none".

World Series in '85. I was five, so I don't know if it counts.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-01-2007 04:21 PM

NLCS game 6 (the last at Busch Stadium) and the '03 Divisional Round are the closest I've gotten.

None can't be an "other". The Olympics is an "other", Daytona 500 is an "other". None is a "none". My answer is "none".

Fine. If I could edit it, I would.

Supposedly JBucc has been to all of them.

KcMizzou 12-01-2007 04:30 PM

2007 Border War.

Even though the Daytona 500 is the biggest event in Nascar, its not the championship.

Ok, but I've never been there either so my answer is still "none".

Deberg_1990 12-01-2007 04:41 PM

Does WWF or WWE count?

1958 US Open. I also went to the PGA but I don't remember the year. I went to an open practice for the 1988 Final Four at Kemper.

Rain Man 12-01-2007 04:46 PM

It should be a bannable offense for a non-Chiefs fan to post a poll like this on a Chiefs board.

Well in that case, I've seen wrestling's equivalent of the NIFL Championship Game!

Indy 500 is the closest thing to a world championship I have ever attended

Do Big 12/8 Tournament Championships count? Because I've been to the last 12 out of 14 of them.

I dont think they count, it has to be for the National Championship.

Royals - and it was awesome. I was 14 at the time, and I remember my Dad let my older brother go down to run around on the field but I had to stay with him.

Thats cool and lame, but still seeing something like that must have been great. Plus the blowout meant no tense moments. I hate the Cards too, glad your a Royals fan.

I forgot to check world series. Giants against A's in the Earthquake series.

The undefeated Dolphins in LA. Pops got free tickets from Westinghouse. I was in the 4th grade.

My only major sproting event was Michigan losing, as usual, the Rose Bowl. I think it was 1990. Would have been 15 at the time.

Sfeihc 12-01-2007 10:48 PM

AFC Divisional Playoff game in 03 Colts vs. Chiefs is the closest I've gotten to any of those. I was at the Daytona 500 when #3 won(98) and when he died(01).

WilliamTheIrish 12-01-2007 10:55 PM

Game 6 and Game 7 in 1985.

ALCS - 1976,77. Missed 1978. Saw game 2 of the 1980 ALCS. Wasn't able to attend the 1984 ALCS where Detroit wailed on the Royals.

1998, 2000, 2003 Big XII CG's.

Simba 12-31-2008 06:46 AM

First USFL championship game in Denver, where the Michigan Panthers beat the Carl Peterson-led Philadelphia Stars, 24-22.

Jerm 12-31-2008 06:54 AM

Was at the 2005 Masters.

Also was at Over the Edge '98 when Owen Hart got killed at Kemper...not a championship but memorable nonetheless.

Geebus tits; you really are an old bastard! I would guess that 75% of this board wasn't even born in 58! How old were you then?

luv 12-31-2008 07:31 AM

I was in the roller skating nationals in 1986. Does that count?

chief52 12-31-2008 07:50 AM

I was at game 1 of the '88 World Series when Kirk Gibson hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the ninth to beat the A's in LA.

I was at the 2004 Super Bowl in Houston when the Patriots defeated the Panthers 32–29, as Adam Vinatieri kicked a 41-yard field goal with four seconds left.

Been lucky not only to go to these, but see two great games.

Mi_chief_fan 12-31-2008 08:45 AM

1994 Orange Bowl, Nebraska v. Florida State, got 4 tix for free from USO; was New Year's Day, nobody else could go, so I went & scalped the other 3 tix for $100 each.

I still thhink Nebraska was the better team.

Dartgod 12-31-2008 08:53 AM

I had tickets to numerous AFC Championship Games during the '90s.

blaise 12-31-2008 09:25 AM

I've never attended one, but it's worked out that I lived in quite a few cities involved in major sporting events. I lived in Buffalo three of the years the Bills went to the Super Bowl. I lived in Washington DC the year they went to the Stanley Cup Finals against Detroit. I lived in Houston when the Super Bowl, MLB All Star game, World Series and two NLCS's were played there.
I just never went. Too much money in my opinion. The only one I really wish I'd gone to was the Stanley Cup Finals, but I'm a Sabres fan and the Caps had just beat the Sabres in the Eastern Conference finals so I was feeling a lot of hatred toward the Caps. The kind of sports hate only hockey can produce for me.
